12:16 – State offense stalls and settles for a FG.
12:25 – UNC moves to mid-field and elects to punt on 4th and one. Does Butch trust his defense to get good field position back or does he have no faith in his running game?
12:26 – Nice run by Eugene to get the offense out of a hole.
Check that…two nice runs.

12:45 – End of 1st quarter. 10-0 State and moving the ball again. It’s hard to imagine a much better quarter than that one.
12:48 – WOW! I thought that one was going to be intercepted. Nice play to Stone after Evans nearly gave me a heart attack.
12:50 – Strange timeout by State. Did anyone see what happened? I wasn’t paying attention to the play clock.

1:02 – UNC goes three and out

1:03 – How was that not pass interference?
1:04 – UNC defense calls timeout….guess they need a breather.
1:07 – You could see that happen in slow motion. Evans heaved it over Stone’s head when he was under pressure….and you knew that there were not going to be any red shirts in front of him after the INT.
1:12 – Second straight stop of State’s offense. Partially blocked punt. Time for the defense to step up.
1:16 – Close one on both ends of that pass….nearly sacked….nearly a TD. Net result – 2nd and 10
1:17 – Quick 10 pts for UNC. Let’s hope Bible was able to settle Evans down.
1:19 – State’s offense got knocked off track, but the defense is still hanging tough. Yates is only 6-13 (94 yards) and the UNC rushing attack – 9 rushes for 10 yards. Evans’ horrible decision gave UNC points that they haven’t shown that they are capable of getting on their own.
1:22 – Oh my goodness! Was that pass to Stone as closely covered as it looked?
1:26 – Now that is more like it. Big play by Bowens.
1:27 – Wolfpack TD! Stone was completely alone in the end zone.
1:30 – Bad kick, nice return. UNC starts with good field position on their 40 yd line.
1:32 – Holding on UNC – takes away nice pass for 1st down.
1:33 – Pressure finally gets to Yates. 1st sack of the day.
1:35 – Second sack of the day. Give a ton of credit to the secondary. Yates had time, but obviously couldn’t find anyone to throw to.
1:36 – 4th and forever with 13 seconds in the half. Will Butch heave it towards the endzone or punt?
1:38 – Halftime with State up 24-10.
The good:
State’s defense only allowed 114 yds offense and 3 pts
Eugene – 15 rushes for 91 yards
State’s offense breaks the 24 point “barrier” in the first half (and has 288 yds offense)
The bad:
Pick six makes a 10/14 point swing on one bad play.
Punt protection breaks down and tipped punt leads to UNC FG
Bottom line:
There is not a single State fan that wouldn’t have taken a 24-10 half time lead before the game ever started. There is also not a single State fan that watched the first half that isn’t wishing for more.
2:02 – Offense is moving the ball through the air and on the ground. Looks good so far.
2:03 – UNC’s defense makes a good tackle for a change. Eugene is limping off the field.
2:09 – State’s defense holds again.
2:13 – Three and out for State. Good field position for UNC after a bad punt.
2:16 – Nice throw on the trick play. UNC closes to 24-17.
2:19 – Eugene back in the ball game. Open questions…how long can he go and how effective will he be?
2:21 – Evans never saw the pressure coming. Another three and out for State.
2:22 – Another bad punt and even better field position for UNC.
2:25 – Nice stop by defense on third and long.
2:28 – Offense stalls again. What is it…one first down for the half?
2:32 – Big fourth down conversion by UNC….looked like they ran the same play as third down, but had a better throw.
2:35 – Big time hit to save the TD. Under review.
2:37 – What an absolutely stupid pass by UNC. Is Mazzone on their staff?
2:45 – State shoots themselves in the foot with a block in the back. The offense is backed up again.
2:48 – Eugene’s ankle looked pretty good on that play.
2:50 – Where did this running game came from and where was it in the third quarter?
2:52 – Nice call to Stone.
2:54 – Another pick six to take points away from State and give them to UNC.
3:02 – So far in the second half, my worst fears have come true….State’s offense is self-destructing.
3:06 – Defense comes through again. Now the offense needs to redeem itself.
3:10 – Thought Eugene was going in. 1st and goal on the 1.
3:!3 – Good timeout by UNC. Stops the clock, saving time for their offense.
3:!4 – It’s on the defense now. They’ve been there all day and need one more stop.
3:17 – Short kick……why? Great field position for UNC.
3:19 – I want to see a view that shows that the pass got back to the LOS.
3:20 – Great tip by Jimmie Sutton.
3:22 – Great tackle by Ernest Jones to prevent the first down and force UNC to burn a TO.
What a game. Much closer than it should have been.
