N&O Michigan State Article

“They did exactly what we thought they would do,” NCSU coach Sidney Lowe said. “They were very active and aggressive and they ran the floor well on us.

“We ran into a team that was clicking. I don’t think we had the energy to match it. They won the hustle war. They won the physical war.”

Our players need to take some lessons in toughness, spirit, and endurance from Kadijah Whittington from the lady pack. She is unreal this year.

    From GoPack:
    Whittington Headlines…
    • Leads the ACC in scoring and rebounding
    • Named ACC Player of the Week on Monday – Avg. 20.7 pts., 12.3 reb. in 3 gms – becomes first Pack player since Kaayla Chones to win the award (2/9/04)
    • Named MVP of Junkanoo Jam Lucaya Division (25.5 pts., 12.0 reb., 3.5 steals)
    • Is playing in her 104th game tonight; has not missed a game in career
    • Became 24th player at NC State with 1,000 career points vs. Arizona (11/20)
    • Became 7th NC State player with 100 career blocks against Brown (11/18)
    • Has compiled 54 double-figure scoring games
    • Her 27 double-doubles is 7th most in school history
    • Has a double-double in all eight games this season
    • Named to All-Tournament team at TD Banknorth Classic (14 pts, 14 reb. per gm)
    • Named to the Preseason All-ACC team

I think the folks on this blog are not upset at losing. It was the way it was lost. The “heart” factor.

For the last 3 games, I have been analyzing the player’s performances. I have assigned unemotional measures to player production normalized by minutes played. The players get points added for positive stats and removed for negative stats. The measurement can be thought of as positive things done per minute. The results are as follows.

    Hickson 0.82
    Grant 0.66
    Fells 0.54
    Degand 0.53
    McCauley 0.51
    Horner 0.43
    Costner 0.43
    Gonzalez 0.02

JJ is always in the top 3. Degand and Horner’s performance statistics are improving. If you want to play, produce when you are on the court!

I believe in Sid and trust his leadership, but it is fun to speculate. At this point of the season, I would play JJ, Ben, Fells, Grant and Degand with Horner first off the bench.

Sorry, I tried, but damnit, I can’t stay away for very long. I like your idea ^79sf, but how are minutes played factored in? I think that maybe those numbers and standings would be different considering the time each player is allotted to earn those positive/negative marks. You may have it just right, but I’d be interested in knowing how you figured that.

Sorry, I see it plain as day, you have time factored in already. I have to look at minutes played without a turnover as positive variable, say, just making an intelligent pass, does that impact your stats? Also, scoring, rebounding, turnovers and etc, do tell some of the story, but I don’t think anyone can put a number on the overall effort exerted (or not), especially in the rebounding department and how effectively some play on the defensive end.

    I subtract for turnovers. Of course, rebounding, scoring, assists, blocks and steals are all counted as positive. The current minute distribution over the last 3 games are;

    Degand 99.00
    Hickson 83.00
    Grant 82.00
    Fells 94.00
    Costner 70.00
    McCauley 80.00
    Horner 64.00
    Gonzalez 18.00
