Based on the some of the pre-season hype, I was expecting a little higher ranking. Somewhere in the upper teens.

  2. packpigskinfan23 10/26/2007 at 1:57 PM #

better to work our way up… but I agree.

  3. PAPacker 10/26/2007 at 1:59 PM #

Kind of interesting that the acc operation basketball voting picked Duke and State so close to finish second and the ESPN poll has them 13 spots apart. I would rather be lower ranked and move up.

Time to lace the shoes and toss it up!!!

The absolute best thing about college basketball is that the polls don’t mean a thing in March. Winning takes care of itself.

Respect is earned not given. I suspect it will be well deserved by the end of the regular season.

Interesting to note, the Old Spice Classic will have the 24th (us), 25th (Villanova), and 26th (K-State) ranked teams, as it stands now. Others in our out of conference schedule include Davidson, who is also listed in the ‘Others Receiving Votes’ category with K-State, and Michigan State who is 8th.

Some notables on the Board of Coaches are Eddie Biedenbach, Dave Odom, and Gary Williams.

Not just anyone beats Dave Odom at Madison Square Garden in March.

Someone fill me in on Tyler Thornton.

    Info on Tyler Thornton:

Check out this page from his high school web site for two links regarding Tyler:
    http://www.gonzaga.org/sports/basketball/new_site/index.htm

    The two Links are titled:
    “Thornton Named MVP”
“Hoya Report with Tyler Thornton” (This is written by a hoya so it is biased, but a pretty impressive right up in regard to Tyler.

24th pre-season isn’t bad. Next year let’s hope it’s higher, cause that means there’s been some noise. Also, I am thinking we’re still one year away (from being realistic ACC/national contenders) but if all goes right it could happen.

  14. redfred2 10/26/2007 at 5:08 PM #

24th??? What the hell is this, a football poll?

Just kidding, it’s not way up there but I guess it’s fair. Especially considering last season’s lack of depth and also considering ESPN’s/national media’s view from afar.

    Fair for RIGHT NOW anyway.

Being ranked after a quarterfinal exit from the NIT is an honor to the coaching staff. A lot of preseason rankings are based on how the national media view the ability of the coaching staff, which is why Duke, Louisville, etc. are often highly ranked to start the season, irregardless of any issues with the talent they have.

Preseason polls are preseason polls. But, we have to be ecstatic with the realization that we are heading in the right direction. The players are upbeat, the press has taken notice. And by the way, I don’t remember seeing AzState or did I? Oh my mistake that was football. At any rate, good things do come to those who wait.

  17. highstick 10/26/2007 at 5:59 PM #

Heck, Poor Old Dave couldn’t even make the NIT last year! Talk about being in a “hot seat”!

“Not just anyone beats Dave Odom at Madison Square Garden in March.”

We didn’t in 2000, that’s for sure. I still can’t believe I paid money for that.

Anyone seen Damon Thornton lately, please kick him in the balls for me.

  19. TNCSU 10/26/2007 at 7:34 PM #

Anyone know for sure what time the R/W game starts tomorrow? I’ve heard 1200 and 1230.

  20. blpack 10/26/2007 at 7:59 PM #

24th may be a little lower than expected, but it is not bad. I told a guy at work we’ll fly on the edge of the radar and then around Valentines Day he’ll say we are a good team. Then by March he’ll know we are a good team.

No, you didn’t see that name, not on any BB poll anyway.

Just like I’ve been trying to explain to some people for years, the opportunity to play at NC State, while participating in the ACC against some of the best in the nation, automatically affords ANY coach a pretty high baseline of HS basketball talent to choose from. That is, any coach who’s smart enough to embrace those two built-in factors, and use them to the benefit the BB program.

    I heard the R&W game was 2:30?!

  23. packpigskinfan23 10/26/2007 at 11:06 PM #

^go pack says “New Time” is 12:30. So nice that someone realized that 2:30 was a major cut into Tailgating hrs.

  24. choppack1 10/26/2007 at 11:30 PM #

Not a bad turnaround…Hopefully, the team is po’d about this. Looking forward to watching us tomorrow.

  25. TNCSU 10/26/2007 at 11:46 PM #

Thanks ppsf23….2:30 would have been awful – at least now, we can tailgate between the two games.
