“What are your thoughts on the Red Sox re-signing Lowell?”

Well worth it. Great teammate, great glove, great bat. I’d give him a four-year deal.

    “How about Schilling?”

Thanks for the memories! Good luck in Milwaukee!

“Other than Crisp, do you see any other interesting moves that might be made?”

Specifically? I don’t know of any. Yes, I think they will be making lots of moves. That’s what Theo always does.

    Noah,
Did you pull an Andy Kaufman and create your own Tony Clifton persona known as cabwolf?
Since baseball has entered the thread, and I am the rare Wolfpack/Mets fan, I could use some advice…my last place fantasy football team has been called the NC State Mets for the past few weeks. The NC State has to be removed. I am sure you Red Sox fans would love to take a shot at the Mets and sling a few zingers my way that I could make good use of.

That would leave A.I. as the only possible answer. I’m pretty sure he’s a person.

I agree with him to a point, emotion is important and we are all glad as StateFans that it is reborn in our program. But he’s kind of the Anti-Sendek. All emotion will get you over.

I really think it is a combination of the two. Have you ever played with or seen anyone so keyed up they were predictable, or ran at full speed into a trap? The other guys have emotion ,too. You have to be intense no doubt, but it usually comes down to whoever can react with their fundamentals the quickest and has a better game plan. You can be as pumped as you wanna be against KG, and if you try to go to the rack on him you’ll still get swatted.

I’m a Pirate fan, but happy for the Red Sox. Its a real world example of what happens if a team invests in its players both at the free agent level (I can’t recall the last FA the Pirates signed of any value) and in the farm system. And keeps its farm players instead of giving them away cheap.

Is it DAY-gand or DeGAND? The guy on the radio keeps saying DAY-gand and it’s driving me nuts.

  8. JeremyH 11/01/2007 at 8:52 PM #

    it must be day-gand.

    nice win for the pack.

    notes:
simon harris looks like “the microwave” vinny johnson.
grant still prone to silly mistakes.
degand steady, for the most part.
are shooters are costner, horner, and fells.
hickson forcing it in the first half, good in the second.
McCauley didn’t see much time, prolly Lowe testing people out.
saw Horner and ferguson together a lot
ferg still doesn’t look that comfortable, had a nice floater.
defense needs A LOT of work.
defensive rebounding needs A LOT of work.
at times out of control and playing frantically, causing turnovers.
these last three will come with time.
for the most part dominating win against the IIA champs, no cupcake!

Whoa, cabwolf, if you took my post literally, then like I said before, you are NEW, new to SFN anyway. I actually TOTALLY agreed and appreciated your emotional post about Wolfpack BB. I’ve submitted many similar posts myself. I was only using you to get another jab in at those folks who STILL defend THEIR former coach, the zombie in the coach’s box, the one who lived and breathed X’s and O’s and execution. The emotionless one, You know.

Sorry you took it wrong, but jeez, lighten up man. You’ll be fine around here.

BTW, noah may be the epitome of a Negative Nelly, but he’s OK too, sometimes.

    Noah,

Totally agree on Lowell. My question was more about do you think Boston WILL get it done with Lowell or whether you think he will end up elsewhere? (The business side of the game sucks.) Despite the recent success, current Red Sox mgt has their share of goof moves, so I hope they get it done with Mike. Hopefully, if the Red Sox treat him right, Lowell will choose a lot of money + a chance to retire a legend in Boston over a little more money on a relative basis somewhere else at the expense of his legend status in Boston.

There’s not a ballclub in existence that hasn’t goofed.

John Schuerholz is a brilliant general manager, but trading TWO quality pitchers like Adam Wainwright and Jason Marquis for one year of JD Drew was stupid. Trading Jermaine Dye for M. Tucker and K. Lockhart was stupid. But there are 50 other moves that he made that are brilliant.

Do I think Lowell WILL resign with Boston? I dunno. He’s the best infielder on the free agent market (I’m intentionally leaving out Payrod since all but two or three teams are unable to bid for his services…therefore he’s not really “on the market.”) and there are several teams that could really use him.

I’d be willing to give him a four-year deal if I was Boston. I would probably be willing to go as high as $10 million per if I was Boston. Manny is coming off the books after next year. Schilling won’t be on the books next year.

The Red Sox have to resign Francona this year too.

“There’s not a ballclub in existence that hasn’t goofed.”

    No doubt. Totally agree.

I just don’t want Red Sox mgt to goof this time with Lowell—or with Francona.

After breaking the curse, everyone around mgt as well as some players seemed to get wacky for a time with that success—totally understandable after finishing off 86 years of crazy pressure. Fortunately, they really righted the ship in relatively quick fashion for this year’s repeat success and seem to have built some serious foundations for long-term success.

Although I have moments where I say “why in the hell did Mgt/Francona/Manny do that?” I really don’t give it that much thought anymore. It’s hard to ever question the contributors who completely ended a lifetime of knowing failure and heartbreak was on its way with 2 titles, 2 historic comebacks, and several great closes with everything on the line…

Hmmm. To tie this back to NC State, I hope Sid & Co can do the same after a couple decades of knowing failure and heartbreak was on its way. Sid won’t ever be perfect, but I look forward to wondering “why in the hell did Sid do that” in between some titles, historic comebacks, and great closes with everything on the line…
