FBall Implosion Getting Worse

On the same day that NC State released an updated injury report that serves to rub salt in our wounds by now including our starting quarterback in addition to the previous injuries to our starting running back, tight end and offensive lineman…we have learned that three scholarship players are no longer with the team – Levin Neal, Nate Franklin and LaMarcus Bond.

After watching Levin Neal lose his job and Nate Franklin punt this year…I guess we shouldn’t be too concerned as TOB now has additional scholarhships to distribute in what has been a stellar recruiting effort, thusfar.

How many football players does NC State currently have on scholarhip? and what is the distribution by class of these players?

Earth to high school stars and JUCO linemen we have plenty of playing time available!!! Come on down!!!

“Seriously, what the hell was Amato going to do with this year’s team(with a new OC) let alone next year’s team after losing 18 seniors(we get Ant. Hill back)?”

A question I’ve wondered many times. I watch us play and I think of Amato promising after the 5-6 season that he wouldn’t fail to qualify for a bowl again and then being shocked that he was fired.

What in the WORLD made him think that he was moving in the right direction?

he was going to spend a majority of the year getting into shouting matches with reporters and working out at golds gym in cary.

I think it is more and more clear that Amato was/is not mentally stable.

We are NOT the worst team in the country — I’m watching the Purdue/ND game on ESPNUnavailable right now and the Golden Domers are TERRIBLE.

I start to wonder if Weiss was only an offensive genius because he knew what defense was always being called (since the Pats were likely stealing signals back then too). If I were a serious ND fan I’d really start to wonder at this point….

Noah: I have no idea. The question I have is how does Lee Fowler make it though this and get a contract extension???

He should have been on top of the situation a long time ago when all the signs where there pointing to a total collapse of the program. I don’t expect average fans like myself to be able to see these things coming that far off, but I certainly expect our athletic director to see it. I expect our athletic director to make tough decisions and make the necessary changes before our football program goes on an 11 game division 1 losing streak(with no end in sight).

What did NC State do to deserve the incompetence of Lee Fowler? What other AD at a BCS program has had $100 million+ invested in their football program in the last seven years and currently has a longer division 1 losing streak?

primacy where in the hell are you gettting these quotes.. and was TOB on acid?

We may lose 19, but only 12 of those see the field.

  9. Girlfriend in a Coma 10/01/2007 at 4:56 PM #

^ And how good can those 12 be anyway?

I watched that game, backinpack. Notre Dame stinks. They don’t have a speck of talent at the skill positions.

The high-water mark for the post-Lou Holtz Notre Dame football program was probably their win over Penn State last year. They haven’t beaten a quality program since. The sad part is that a lot of coaches are going to get chewed to pieces…but the academic restrictions at Notre Dame simply won’t allow them to compete.

Tyrone Willingham said that if you took the top 100 players in the nation, perhaps three of them could get a scholarship to Stanford. About 10 of them could get a scholarship to Notre Dame. While Wisconsin and Michigan are both excellent schools, they don’t handcuff their athletic departments and can get probably 90 to 95 of the guys in the top 100.

I’m not really with some of you on the “Fowler should have seen this coming issue.” I mean, exactly how is Fowler supposed to realize the state of the program. He doesn’t sit in on the recruiting meetings with the staff. He doesn’t even come from a football background…he’s never coached or evaluated football players. Not only that, he has a lot more on his plate then football. If he had been all in Amato’s program last season, he would have been lambasted for some for interfering in an area where he has no competency. How, exactly, do you feel Lee Fowler was supposed to know. Heck, many of the fans on here were predicting a winning season this year. What sort of “inside info” was Lee supposed to have and act upon? Are you suggesting he should have fired Amato a year earlier? That he should have hired someone other than TOB? Seems to me we have a lot of armchair athletics directors on here. What, precisely, would you have done different, keeping in mind the amount of support Amato garnered after the Gator Bowl win, and continued to have at the end of the 2005 season (and indeed, still seems to have today, although the absurd “he upgraded recruiting” observation seems now to have been absolutely demolished for all time)?

    Current division 1 losing streaks:

    Florida International: 16
    NCST: 11
    Colorado State: 11
    Utah State: 11
    Alabama-Birmingham: 9
    Idaho: 9
    Temple: 8
    Notre Dame: 7*
    Louisiana Tech: 7

So we all need to be pulling against Fla International each week.

are we in the running for any JUCO talent for next yr? cause we need help and we need it in a bad way

What do you expect O’Brien to say?

“Good f-ing christ, what the h did I walk into?? What the hell were you crazy people doing hiring Charles Manson to run your f-ing football program? Half the team is hooked on crack, the other half can’t spell ‘crack.’ My first day on the job, I had to go to prison to meet my incoming freshmen. I’ve got a right tackle who ran over an entire girl scout troop while drinking beer from stein he fashioned from a second-grader’s head and getting a BJ from a transvestite prostitute wearing a Carolina cheerleader sweater. His backup actually died last year and returned to earth as a ghost…so other than rattle his chains, he can’t really stop anyone, being transparent and all. And my athletic director keeps running around ranting about his missing quart of strawberries and how he’ll catch the thieves this time, he knows it! Again….WHAT were you people doing??”

Actually, that would be kind of fun if he said that….

“He doesn’t sit in on the recruiting meetings with the staff. He doesn’t even come from a football background…he’s never coached or evaluated football players”

why doesnt he do these things? why isnt he sitting in on meetings? why doesnt he have any football expeirence as an AD of a large Div1 school that is essentially a multi million dollar business.. if he didnt have any fball experience this is how he would get some, sit in on some meetings!!!… if i have a meeting and my boss says he would like to sit in to see how things are going i smile and say yes sir, would you like to sit in my chair, hell, maybe after the meeting youd like to come to my place and fu$k my wife?

    [/quote]

If TOB isn’t redshirting/recruiting/developing better players than this year’s starters, we will have the worst football program in the history of the ACC in 2 years. Given his track record at BC, I think this is highly unlikely.

backr04 – I don’t believe there’s an AD in the world who micromanages to that level. I don’t believe the job affords you the time to do that.

Bogie’s rant at the end of his trial and the stony silence from the officers and the look of self-realization that follows is just awesome.

From a guy who had as much dramatic range as a cinderblock, he was great in that role.

  24. wufpaxno1 10/01/2007 at 5:13 PM #

packbacker04 – There isn’t a coach at any level that would alow an AD to sit in on there meetings with the exception of those coaches who wear both hats, and I don’t think there are of those left at the D-1 Level. Would you alow it if you were a coach?

“There are several guys on that list that didn’t come to NC State with a scholarship.

I counted 72 off the roster..”

“The below list includes 3 walk-ons that I assume are now on scholarship – Jamaine Clemmons, Meares Green & Robbie Leonard. I also included Ryan Goodman but am not positive about his status.”

Zach Brown shouldn’t have been on my original list. 74 came definitely came with a scholarship – still not sure about Ryan Goodman. He also wrestles but I think it counts under football. He would make 75.
