FBall Implosion Getting Worse

On the same day that NC State released an updated injury report that serves to rub salt in our wounds by now including our starting quarterback in addition to the previous injuries to our starting running back, tight end and offensive lineman…we have learned that three scholarship players are no longer with the team – Levin Neal, Nate Franklin and LaMarcus Bond.

After watching Levin Neal lose his job and Nate Franklin punt this year…I guess we shouldn’t be too concerned as TOB now has additional scholarhships to distribute in what has been a stellar recruiting effort, thusfar.

How many football players does NC State currently have on scholarhip? and what is the distribution by class of these players?

Earth to high school stars and JUCO linemen we have plenty of playing time available!!! Come on down!!!

wow, do you think TOB is second guessing his decision to leave his best team in 10 years in Chestnutt Hill to come and babysit a bunch of Chucks pussies? This is going to take a long time to correct…. and you know i dont blame Chuck as much as I blame fowler… it is his job to make sure that Chuck didnt do this to our football program. Could Lee not see what was happening to the program from way up there in his private Box? the writing has been on the wall for 3 years now. dam you sir, dam you to hell

we are without a doubt the worst 1a football team in the country

  3. Wolf-n-Atl 10/01/2007 at 3:13 PM #

Remember, Fowler knows basketball not football. 😉

packbackr04, you obviously don’t follow the University of North Texas Mean Green 😉

^^^ Just think – Fowler didn’t even want to fire Chuck Amato after LAST season. And had Chuck managed to beat UNC, Lee would have gotten his wish.

    That’s scary beyond imagination.

  6. DRW 10/01/2007 at 3:30 PM #

Is anyone else starting to get concerned that TOB may not have been the right man for the job? Or is that just me?

Having so much attrition so early, TOB calling out the players, etc has me wondering.

  7. BJD95 10/01/2007 at 3:35 PM #

Tom O’Brien has a track record. It’s the players, a significant portion of which constitute “the uncoachables” as has been alluded to by numerous people close to the program.

  8. noah 10/01/2007 at 3:37 PM #

Three players leaving is not “attrition.”

We had a lot more than that leave when Amato came in.

  9. Girlfriend in a Coma 10/01/2007 at 3:38 PM #

I think it’s pretty clear that Amato’s football philosophy and TOB’s are diametrically opposed. As a result, the few decent players TOB has are all round pegs in square holes this year.

As I’ve said numerous times, I never would have believed that Amato would have left the program with less talent that he inherited, but he certainly did.

so this may be heresy around here; but ponder this…did UNC and NCSU get our coaches backwards? Would Davis not know how to deal with the talent (and lack of smarts) that we have while TOB would be able to handle the smart, lack of talented players at UNx?

I hate to think it but it might be the case…

  12. StateFans 10/01/2007 at 3:53 PM #

I don’t think that it is remotely fair to even ponder conversations and “coaching issues” being the root of problems into you get into the meat of season 3….and not fair to contemplate any ‘official’ coaching assessment until year 4.

  13. packplantpath 10/01/2007 at 3:55 PM #

At least we don’t play Duke, because it would really suck to be the team to break their ACC losing streak.

^”I don’t think that it is remotely fair to even ponder conversations and “coaching issues” being the root of problems into you get into the meat of season 3….and not fair to contemplate any ‘official’ coaching assessment until year 4.”

Not only is not fair, it’s not possbile to know. Anything thrown out there is just jiberous. Enough with this . . . jibber jabber.

  15. DRW 10/01/2007 at 4:06 PM #

I guess it is just me! 🙂

When does Dook come back on the schedule?

  16. CarnifeX 10/01/2007 at 4:08 PM #

StateFans; I completely agree, TOB was brought in to rebuild and I have no doubt that he will do a great job and he has years to prove himself.

That said; look at the rosters and the types of players both teams have and the coaches and where their respective strengths lie; it seems that each would be currently performing better than they currently are. On the flip side, thats probably why they were brought in in the first place, to correct the wrongs of previous philosophies, so my arguement is particularly moot.

    Still, its an interesting thought.

  17. CarnifeX 10/01/2007 at 4:08 PM #

ok. sorry with the jibba jabba. I’ll go back to work now. 🙂

I have believed all along it would be a difficult year. We must remember we got a whole new coaching staff and all the players learning new systems. That usually always takes time and leads to growing pains. And it usually is most pronounced at QB. I think we will get better as the season goes. We just got lots of holes that only recruiting, teaching. and developing players is going to change. We have half an offensive line, two good defensive lineman, and one decent linebacker for example. Other teams easily taking advantage of our holes/weaknesses. UNC having same problems. Bunting and Amato were league leaders in players leaving.

can any of Sid’s players help out the football team?

  20. primacyone 10/01/2007 at 4:28 PM #

“Everything that I thought about State when I came here is actually better than I thought. I’m excited about the future of this program. We’re going to get this thing rolling, and we’re going to start winning football games here sooner rather than later. We’re not that far away. We have to take care of the football and do a little better job of staying in our gaps and stop the run… this thing will take off.” Tom O’Brien 10/1/2007

  21. PamlicoPack 10/01/2007 at 4:30 PM #

I’ve pretty much reconciled myself to the fact that this is going to be a 1-11 season. I just can’t imagine, even on their worse days, any team remaining on the schedule playing more poorly than we are right now.

I (mercifully) had an all day commitment and didn’t see a single snap of the Louisville game…can ya’ll tell me if Beck’s injury was related in any way to poor offensive line play? Some of you may get your wish to see Russell Wilson by the end of the season, after DE and Burke also get knocked out by some blitzing linebacker coming unblocked…

  22. Mr O 10/01/2007 at 4:30 PM #

There are several guys on that list that didn’t come to NC State with a scholarship.

I counted 72 off the roster at http://www.gopack.com but probably miscounted.

The scary thought is that we lose 19 seniors from this year’s team –

5 offensive starters(really six since Bedics was the starter at FB)
    7 defensives starters
    1 PK
1 other SR on the depth chart

  23. Mr O 10/01/2007 at 4:33 PM #

Seriously, what the hell was Amato going to do with this year’s team(with a new OC) let alone next year’s team after losing 18 seniors(we get Ant. Hill back)?

The program was being run into the ground right under Lee Fowler’s nose and as BJD95 said Lee wasn’t going to do anything about it.

  24. packbackr04 10/01/2007 at 4:34 PM #

whats the over/under on when we will win our next football game?

  25. Girlfriend in a Coma 10/01/2007 at 4:35 PM #

I don’t find losing seniors off a 1-11 team “scary.” You can’t fall off the floor.
