BTW, different subject, but Bryan Niemen is playing Pro Basketball in Ireland, and scored 45 points in a game a few weeks ago. Not bad for a former walk-on. Costner doesn’t have the prototypical NBA game, but he may find a good fit. Going against JJ and Ben for a couple more years will definitely improve his low post game.

Wow, that is cool about Nieman. Does anyone know about midnight madness? I thought it was supposed to be this past weekend, but I haven’t seen anything about it…

just wanted to comment on the tirehole loss…i don’t think UNC-CH came back as much as USC allowed them back in, spurrier admitted as much.

I read where it said that NSCU is going to have the tallest front court in college basketball this season.

Big Wood – Go look at the banner on Gopack.com. You might have to wait for it to cycle back around, but it’s got all the info you need.

not to flame the smoldering fire, but i believe redfred is reefering to previous posts about brackman playing basketball or baseball, and what was in his best interest.

noah said he should take the money, redfred said he should stay and play basketball.

for the record i agree with noah, you cant turn down the money. why do you go to college? to get a job. why do you need a job? to make money. “where is the chase and how do i cut to it?”

“All I can say is that a new time is here, kids/players who may not shown that much in the past, are now.”

    like who?

“that kid could have greatly benefitted from at least another year on this level.”

Maybe the new NBA age-rule was a factor. If Ced had stayed his stock wouldn’t be much higher (since he mostly potential).

Going pro in basketball, baseball and football are three completely unique endeavors and one has nothing to do with the other.

In baseball, the odds are so overwhelmingly against EVER making it to the bigs (and if you do make it, odds are you’re never going to see a second contract) that you have to assume that your signing bonus is going to be all the money you ever make in the sport.

  10. noah 10/15/2007 at 12:26 PM #

    Sorry…”completely unique,” redundant. And repetitive.

I think that Roshown McLeod is a good comparison for Costner (who I think is better than McLeod, but they have similar builds and inside/outside games). McLeod had a resonably productive 5-years in the NBA.

Wow, noah, I think that woman may have out-fruitcaked Dawn Bunting.

The good people of Lexington should worry if she starts talking about a monorail.

Of course, that may be more of a Shelbyville kind of idea…

that poor kid. momma is a nut job and proud of it, bad combination

I find this to be the most enlightening comment from the SN article:

“…but the 6-foot-10, 238-pounder still figures to be a big part of the Wolfpack’s resurgence under Lowe.”

A nat’l sportswriter’s acknowledgement that the Pack at one time “surged” and is now in the process of “re-surging” with it’s new coach.

“Is there anything more thought provoking than an 18-21 year old coed with “Go COCKS” plastered across her chest? Only in South Carolina…”

Dr. BadgerPack, I can think of one. Back when I was enrolled at USC in the late seventies (prior to coming to NCSU in 79′), They use to wear t-shirts and had bumber stickers that read “You can’t like our cocks”. Maybe they quit using that one since it was perharps too thought provoking.

Regarding Costner – Right now as a pro prospect , he’s a “tweener” – too short, not strong enough to play the 4, a tad too slow to be as effective at the 3.

And it’s a tough decision for a player like him to decide where to go. He can bulk up and try to be a 4 – and risk losing his size…or he can really slim down. I think that offensively, he seems more effective on the inside than Prince ever was. Costner has some very nice post moves – if he’s developed his right hand during the off-season, no one the conference will be able to stop him w/ his array of skills.

If he’s grows a little more, he may grow into an NBA 4. He does need to work on improving his defensive footwork. Rebounding-wise – I think he did a pretty decent job for a redshirt frosh.

^Nice one… Never to be seen again in the PC age, though- someone might get their knickers all knotted up.

Noah- and remember, Brackman’s situation was even more “unique” in that I believe he was given a Major League contract.

  19. RochesterRedWolf 10/15/2007 at 1:26 PM #

don’t wanna upset the matrix but that woman who claims prophethood is hardly unique, its quite the trend over the last 15 years as the article sortof addresses.

  20. RochesterRedWolf 10/15/2007 at 1:27 PM #

Noah, Ruiz got a dual leg transplant, he’s on the 2 deep.

As an aside, i thought there’d be a little more of a shakeup in the lineup the last half of the season, guess not.

  21. redfred2 10/15/2007 at 1:27 PM #

lush, ya just couldn’t let it die, could ya?

Yeah, I was speaking about Brackman, forgoing basketball at NCSU and just sitting out the season. Then was the mention that if he wasn’t drafted into MLB that he was considering of transfering to another school, to play what sport? YEP, BASKETFREAKINGBALL.

Now, if those reports are actually true, Brackman got advice about the new situation at NC State from somewhere, and he took that advice and he quit playing basketball for the wrong reasons.

What I said about Simmons still stands.

  22. newt 10/15/2007 at 1:50 PM #

When I was in high school, the USC hats and t-shirts said “This is Big Cock Country”

  23. RickJ 10/15/2007 at 1:50 PM #

There are really limited opportunities to make money in professional baseball & football outside MLB & the NFL. This is definitely not the case in basketball. Obviously the NBA is the Holy Grail but Costner has the potential to make a ton of money overseas if it doesn’t work out. His game is perfect for the European style of play.

  24. packgrad93 10/15/2007 at 1:52 PM #

“It could be Wall and another top recruit whose name I’ve heard mentioned by the Staff. This particular name is not listed on Rivals or Scout as a State prospect. I won’t mention his name, since it was told in confidence, but he’s a Top 25 (top 3 or 4 in position) recruit. I’m not sure about Hamilton, but I think he may stay out West.”

Doubt it’s Wall. Favors & Johnson would be nice, but doubtful. What about Ross, Marhold, L. Brown or Kelly?

  25. noah 10/15/2007 at 2:21 PM #

“His game is perfect for the European style of play.”

Agreed. He can play 15 years and make a very healthy living shuffling between two leagues. All your food and housing is paid for too.

Rochester, I want to see Ruiz punt just to see how spectacularly awful he must have been. I’m fully admitting that I want to see a 83 car pileup in the punting game.

I assume that he must drop the ball and fail to connect with anything. Unless you do something akin to a backwards bicycle kick, the ball CANT go backwards.

All kidding aside, someone told me that Ruiz had some transcript issues that needed to be resolved before he could play. If that’s true, that certainly explains a lot.
