Well, maybe an illustration would be helpful, because the literal meanings of some your past posts sure convinced that to hell with everything else, the next level and THE CONTRACT, are what it is ALL about.

I think what we have here, is a failure to communicate. All I can say is that a new time is here, kids/players who may not shown that much in the past, are now. Baseball players who once seemed like pretty good basketball players, could have possibly become valuable commodities on the hardwood. A young kid with awesome physical traits and an enormous upside, but who didn’t get the chance to play in his natural position and was left still very much unrefined, and even though he dropped down but still signed a nice professional contract, that kid could have greatly benefitted from at least another year on this level. I think the numbers (not his $$$, but his stats) bear me out.

Sometimes, it’s just not in anyone’s best interest to skip over anything. If that were the case Roy would have five open scholarships to fill every season, because someone, somewhere, will almost always offer his players.

Lord knows it’s not what we’re used to, but professional contracts for NCSU basketball will not be as scarce as hen’s teeth anymore. Now, whether the kids/players should jump at the very first opportunity, or sign quickly simply because of the fear of injury, or even stay to develop on a level that they haven’t yet conquered, that is another thing altogether.

I’ve never said any such thing. Nor have I ever expressed anything remotely close to that. In fact, it’s so completely opposite of everything that I think…I can only assume you must have suffered a very serious head injury recently. Good luck in your recovery.

  4. redfred2 10/14/2007 at 8:37 PM #

I tried to explain it peacefully up there, but it apparently went unnoticed. Oh well, maybe I’ll go back in the archives and pull up some quotes.

  5. noah 10/14/2007 at 8:51 PM #

Oh goody. Exactly what everyone has been waiting for.

  6. beowolf 10/14/2007 at 9:23 PM #

Why don’t both of you just knock it off? Sheesh.

    As for this:

If Lowe can figure out how to make Costner taller and quicker, that would be something, wouldn’t it?

I’ll be happy as long as he doesn’t try the “Ron Kelley” approach — you know, just list the 6’8″ guy as 6’10″/6’11” …

    redfred2 Says:
    Rabid,

In my mind, being left out that conversation RIGHT NOW is nothing but a plus all the way around. It’ll come soon enough.

Also, as far the potential matchups of McCauley or Hickson versus Hansbrough, sorry, but the nod goes to Tyler. Don’t forget he is THE established “BIG” in the nation. He’s established in shuffling his BIG feet, creating room with his BIG elbows. He’s got all of that plus stealth technology, which allows a player of his abilities to shove and bang around, plainly visable to the general viewing public, but totally unrecognizable to anyone wearing either a striped shirt or a v-neck, powder blue, sweater vest.

Redfred, I LOVE the sweater vest comment, made me laugh out loud, which got me funny looks from the wife. You made a good comment concerning Hopsbrough, smart-assed as it may be. I also agree that it is a good thing to be “flying under the radar” at this point. MY point was simply that, if it ain’t ‘Pack bashing or ridicule, it ain’t air-worthy. I mean, hell, local radio only gave State’s win over the hated holes last season a passing comment or two (excepting maybe Gold, who I rarely take seriously, anyway ‘cuz he’s a Twerp, errr…Terp). I keep having to tell myself to have much patience, grasshopper, the time will come when you cannot speak of the ACC WITHOUT mentioning, at length, NC State.

By the way, let me add…..

Noah, you go to that corner

Redfred, you go to that corner

Now sit there until you can play nice with each other.

  9. noah 10/14/2007 at 9:46 PM #

The height issue with Costner isn’t going to be huge, most likely. He’s NOT going to play power forward in the NBA. But I just don’t think he’s anywhere near athletic enough to either defend or to get free and create his own shot. He’s a slower version of Terrance Morris.

  10. redfred2 10/14/2007 at 9:51 PM #

He started it. Did too. I’m telling. *MOMMY!!!*

  11. choppack1 10/14/2007 at 9:59 PM #

Rabid Wolf – I agree. Duke doesn’t scare me right now. The kids Coach K brought in are somewhat similar to the kids he’s brought in the last couple of years. We’ll see – he’s the most successfull coach in college b’ball for the last 20 years, so it’s foolish to underestimate him, but on paper, his team doesn’t scare me. Roy’s team – that’s another story.

I think that right now – as it stands -we’re a factor for this year. We played the Heels – the de facto #1 – tough, 2 out of 3 times. The time we didn’t, our coach was hospitalized. I think we can match up w/anyone in the country. We’ll have to bring it on D and find some PG play, but wolfpack fans should be very excited.

If it gives our kids a chip on their shoulder, it’s fine w/ me if we’re ignored.

    Rabid, relax.

Let them babble on for right now, it’ll probably take a while, along with a few more ass whoopins, to finally force any acknowledgement of anyone other than their own precious UNC, and Duke.

  13. RabidWolf 10/14/2007 at 10:34 PM #

It’s not that I’m all worked up about the lack of exposure, I am VERY relaxed and confident about the upcoming BB season. It’s just the absolute kiss-ass true bluism that gets me worked up. It’s almost as if the retaining of one’s job is actually up to the ram’s club (sounds like one of those ‘alternative lifestyle’ bars) or the dookies (is there a common theme here?), I mean, freaking PLEASE! Quotes like “Tyler Hansbrough is clearly the best player in the nation right now” give me a serious gas attack, kinda like the leftovers you find in the back of the fridge that you don’t know how long they have been there, or are not quite sure what it actually is, but you’re just hungry—know what I mean? The proof, as they say, will be in the pudding…..was that pudding?

  14. bTHEredterror 10/14/2007 at 10:35 PM #

I find it entertaining that K is the one with the perimeter offense and no bigs for a change. Let them hope the threes are falling while we go inside to the bank.

As for UNC, they lost a lot more than the anybody seems to be aware of, and with no new players. Though they brought Terry and Miller of the bench, there were several games they wouldn’t have won without those two guys. And Wright is just flat irreplacebable. Let them go ahead and blow that baby-blue bubble bigger, it just makes the pop louder and more startling.

  15. RabidWolf 10/14/2007 at 10:37 PM #

    Agreed, Duke has….what….Henderson? 😛

UNX is left with….Thompson? HA! 🙂

More fresh meat for the Wolfpack.

  16. redfred2 10/14/2007 at 11:14 PM #

    bThe,

I hadn’t thought of it because I don’t think of the heels anymore than I have to, but you are certainly right. R Terry came off the bench and put his team over the hump on more than one occasion.

  17. RabidWolf 10/14/2007 at 11:17 PM #

I’m still not sure if that was actually pudding….

  18. Mr O 10/14/2007 at 11:42 PM #

Noah: What do you think of the Tayshawn(sp) Prince comparison for Costner? Prince was drafted in the middle of the 1st round and has turned out to be a very good player in the NBA.

  19. Mike 10/15/2007 at 12:00 AM #

Prince was a 2/3 – no way Costner is a 2/3. Prince is skinny, Costner has some meat on his bones. Right now, Costner has no home in the NBA. I hope for him he can adjust, but right now he is a very good college player.

  20. Mike 10/15/2007 at 12:01 AM #

Note to Costner and JJ – no one watches the NBA any more. Stay in school and be noticed.

  21. TTandB74 10/15/2007 at 3:24 AM #

Pudding, Rabid? Isn’t that something gay cowboys eat in alternative films? I live in Georgia’s SEC country, so I don’t have to deal with triangle/tarhole radio. But it’s college football 365/6 days a year.

  22. Rick 10/15/2007 at 8:47 AM #

“Definitely a low post player. Very good scorer in the post, though I wasn’t that impressed with his rebounding the one game I saw him. IMO, his team was poorly coached, but it was a day where they played a game in a tournament in the Triad and then drove to Raleigh to play a game in a tournament in Reynolds.”

I saw that game as well.
I thought he was lazy until someone told me he had just played a game. He was simply tired. He had very strong moves to the hope and could jump very well.
His coach was as bad as I have seen. I think with good coaching he could be a beast.

  23. Rick 10/15/2007 at 8:50 AM #

    BTW
I heard Lowe took the entire basketball team to a Bible study that David Thompson was guest speaking. I thought that was impressive.

Why does everyone assume UNC will be better? They did not add any players. They lost “all wold” Brandon Wright. They also lost Terry who despite being scorned by powder blue “fans” everywhere always seemed to hit the big shot for them. I just do not see it.

  24. zahadum 10/15/2007 at 9:31 AM #

Interesting comment by Costner, I would never have thought of Ced as being wiry.

And I disagree with the first paragraph in the Sporting News article. I think for someone 6′ 10″ Ben has a pretty nice first step. No, he’s not Iverson, but when he turns and faces he can drive by most college centers.

  25. noah 10/15/2007 at 9:43 AM #

“Noah: What do you think of the Tayshawn(sp) Prince comparison for Costner?”

Prince is much more athletic than Costner. He’s a lot faster, he can absolutely sky, and he’s a really good defender (on a team full of good defenders). Remember his block on Reggie Miller?
