Just another crazy day of college football. Hell our national champion may well be South Florida at this rate.

Great LSU playcalling… up the gut 3 times after 2nd and 4…

“taller and quicker… Barry Bonds and Marion Jones know people… too soon?”

    Ha!

We can rebuild him. We have the technology…

Ohio State and S. Florida are going to be #1 and #2 come monday. Oregon State is going to beat Cal.

  5. noah 10/13/2007 at 11:07 PM #

    Oregon State 31
    Cal 28

Buckeyes back to #1. So much for the Big 10’s struggles.

Stupid dumbass backup QB for Cal was too stupid to throw the ball away after getting the team inside the redzone. With about 14 seconds left, he decided that the thing to do with no one open was to SCRAMBLE. Cal couldn’t stop the clock and the Beavers win.

All he has to do is throw the ball out of the back of the endzone and he decideds to try and run it in. From about the 15.

    Moron.

Hickson is tough….Tracy Smith is going to surprise some folks — he’s good! Courtney is going to surprise some folks, too. One good thing about our PG situation is that they all play a little differently, so we can come at teams with some different looks.

Just read a comparison of Tracy Smith to Craig Smith (BC) in my Blue Ribbon Yearbook … that comparison surprised me a good bit, as I had the impression he was more of a wing forward, but certainly State fans would have to be happy if he developed into that kind of bruiser.

Definitely a low post player. Very good scorer in the post, though I wasn’t that impressed with his rebounding the one game I saw him. IMO, his team was poorly coached, but it was a day where they played a game in a tournament in the Triad and then drove to Raleigh to play a game in a tournament in Reynolds. They also played a very good team in Raleigh that was much better coached(had the guard that UNC was recruiting for a while, Tydreke Evans or whatever his name is).

  9. TNCSU 10/14/2007 at 10:20 AM #

He’s lost some weight and is leaner, and I’m sure, quicker. At this point, I’d say he looks more like a Chucky Brown style player. He’s got nice athletic ability, and some “hops.”

My odds on favorite for starting PG by mid-season is Javi. I may be wrong, but I think he’s an all-around PG that will do well with our bigs. Johnson looks to be a very good defensive PG – and is a pass-first style of PG who will take care of the basketball (i.e. doesn’t look like he’ll force it and cause turnovers).

“But kids get stars in their eyes and agents in their ears and they can’t be told otherwise.”

This statement, coming from the guy who pretty much condones that process every time, and says that going pro is what college athletics are ALL about nowadays anyway?

I think maybe there are still coaches who can reach these kids today, earn their respect, and advise them in those decisions. If Hickson is ready for the next level after only one year, I’m sure Lowe will be among the first to acknowledge that fact. Theres the difference from back a couple years ago, when NC State BB players going pro wasn’t even an issue, the kids are now going to be developing into NBA talent levels, and sooner than we’d possibly like to see it. What we have that could possibly offset that quick leap in certain instances anyway, will be a coach who knows when the time is right, and players who will respect his imput.

Beyond that, Sidney Lowe is instilling new love for NC State and rejuvenating the desire to see it succeed once again. Call me a dreamer but maybe, just maybe, the “family” and “father figure” that JJ and others elude to, is something that will also play a part in those decisions to leave early. Lowe is definitely getting into these kid’s heads already and making them focus on the big picture, and as a unit/”family”.

Sidney Lowe speaking about about the RIVALRY of the big three in the triangle…

*”It’s reality…you’re playing for your fans, your school…it’s fun…embrace it”*

    Man, what a refreshing change!!!

Sid said that we are close to some commits from 09 players…

Anyone know who they could be?

I heard also somewhere that he referred to them as “top 25 players’?

Wall? Hamilton? Johnson? Anyone that has any info let us know! Also, any word on if any prospects visiting for our midnight show or red-white game?

I remember Julius Mays committing kind of “out of nowhere” so the next few weeks could be big for the 09 class!

  14. wallacepark 10/14/2007 at 2:24 PM #

I don’t know who they might be, but I’ve heard the same thing about the 09 recruits. Apparently Sid mentioned it in a tv interview.

Landing two top 25 recruits in one class would be just amazing. Hope we get em.

It amazes me, it absolutely amazes me……listening to local sports radio (should be called radio blue) every talkin haircut is ranting and babbling on and on about how UNX is gonna run all the way through the ACC and straight to the NCAA title (if you wanna crown ’em, dammit, CROWN ‘EM) and how Dook will have it’s revival. NOBODY is saying anything about the ‘Pack being very strong and very deep this year. A few have made passing commentary about our “Big ?” at point guard. While true, we have no idea about that particular position, at the very least our returning talent and talented depth (especially on the front line) should get a nod, maybe even a little wink. The PG position will work out, mainly because we have a couple of coaches who were fairly decent [ ;P ] PG’s themselves, and can teach the position to their kids with success. The Wolfpack has a lot to prove, and not much to lose—-mark my words, these young men will surprise a lot of people not only locally, but nationally.

With McCauley and Hickson playing and guarding one another in workouts and practices, both players will reap HUGE benefits in defensive skill, offensive skill, and teamwork. The ‘Pack’s frontcourt will be absolutely UNSTOPPABLE! I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE BIG BEN TAKE HOPSBROUGH TO THE RACK, AND JJ THROW HIS LITTLE SISSY SHOT ALL THE WAY TO WILMINGTON!!! GO WOLFPACK!

It could be Wall and another top recruit whose name I’ve heard mentioned by the Staff. This particular name is not listed on Rivals or Scout as a State prospect. I won’t mention his name, since it was told in confidence, but he’s a Top 25 (top 3 or 4 in position) recruit. I’m not sure about Hamilton, but I think he may stay out West.

  17. redfred2 10/14/2007 at 4:16 PM #

    Rabid,

In my mind, being left out that conversation RIGHT NOW is nothing but a plus all the way around. It’ll come soon enough.

Also, as far the potential matchups of McCauley or Hickson versus Hansbrough, sorry, but the nod goes to Tyler. Don’t forget he is THE established “BIG” in the nation. He’s established in shuffling his BIG feet, creating room with his BIG elbows. He’s got all of that plus stealth technology, which allows a player of his abilities to shove and bang around, plainly visable to the general viewing public, but totally unrecognizable to anyone wearing either a striped shirt or a v-neck, powder blue, sweater vest.

I’m sorry. I can’t believe that you REALLY ARE this stupid. I’m going to just assume you’re deliberately being obtuse.

  19. Luke12321 10/14/2007 at 4:28 PM #

How many scholly’s will we have avaiable for 09? Fells, Ben, (probably Costner and JJ gone as well). So will it be 4?

  20. TNCSU 10/14/2007 at 4:35 PM #

Yes, I think it is 4 if Costner and JJ leave early.

  21. redfred2 10/14/2007 at 4:55 PM #

“I can’t believe that you REALLY ARE this stupid.”

Maybe, but like just you, and your statement that I just pasted above there, I call em like I READ them.

  22. cpwolfpackfan 10/14/2007 at 5:14 PM #

I know this is off subject but what time should people probley get in line friday night to get into the building to see B ballin at the old barn???

  23. noah 10/14/2007 at 5:44 PM #

“I call em like I READ them.”

Okay, then maybe a web site that requires you to read isn’t for you. Maybe a site with nice, pretty pictures is more your speed. Because you certainly aren’t referring to anything *I’VE* said.

[…] More good news for basketball! And what do you know, they have very good things to say: What State accomplished, in the upsets of UNC and Virginia Tech in the regular season, followed by the magical March ride, was to reconnect with State’s tremendous tradition. From Everett Case to Norm Sloan to Jim Valvano, State basketball was emotional, fast, and often electrifying. Sidney Lowe gave them that back and he followed up a tremendous debut (particularly considering what seemed to be severe personnel limitations early on and with a very thin roster throughout) with tremendous recruiting. So it seems safe to say that even if State struggles this year, the Pack is back. […]
