I am not sure i have ever seen a school so beset with injuries… Both fball and bball.
Do we need to get voodoo person and some snake blood?

  2. ktpritch 10/26/2007 at 6:45 PM #

This is starting feel like our basketball team in the early – mid ’90’s (constant foot injuries (thanks to LA Gear)), guys getting shot…the list is too long to remember. Any way, we were/are running out of players…

  3. tacobellmanager 10/26/2007 at 7:29 PM #

This panicked the hell out of me. I thought we were talking about the basketball team.

The jaded tone of voice in this post speaks volumes. J.P. saw all of those injuries you describe, ktpritch, and more while at State. We can’t buy a break.

It should all even out, but this year is a statistical extreme.

  5. FullMoonRising 10/26/2007 at 7:54 PM #

Hopefully someone somewhere is evaluating our training practices, maybe our gear…

Is it possible that shoes are the culprit? Were they designed by a UNC graduate?

  6. blpack 10/26/2007 at 7:54 PM #

This is not our year. Any good news, wins, or anything positive is to be savored. The beat goes on. Our day will come.

I’m sorry, folks…My God is not a Tar Heel~ Maybe it’s the Devil who is the real Tar Heel~~~

Is a “fatted lamb” similar to a goat?

This scared the be Jesus out of me, as well.

Not that losing Dunlap isn’t tough, but we at least have some other kids making plays at WR. Crouch and Williams though? Means Vermiglio and Ojo this week. Vermiglio looked decent last week, and Ojo did okay at guard after he was kicked out, but they move Long around, and I think Vermiglio or Green will see him every play to our detriment a few times. Green played a fair game last week, but Long will beat him like Patty beats his drum.

Expect another boatload of screens in this game to help out the line, but expect UVa to expect it, too. I like our taller receivers against their corners, but the safeties have range and hit hard, so there should be a lot of sideline patterns and swings to Blackman to protect the ball. Blackman will be effective, and so will Eugene in the short game, I don’t expect a lot of running yards. This game is almost always a grinder, so we must try to run the ball, regardless of early results. I hope Stone and Kushner, who makes catching the ball an adventure, can make some plays in the middle as a quick outlet that Evans is likely to need frequently. I think our QB is playing smart, I didn’t think we could win with him but I was obviously wrong.

I like our defense against their O, we have improved steadily there, and most of our holes looked plugged against an inferior opponent. Since Peerman isn’t making the trip, I like our chances to keep the run game at least under control to the tune of 120-150 yards. Sewell will be the largest part of that, but we will turn him over a couple of times. He stares his WRs down and takes about a week to release the ball. Against a zone, that will get some picks. The zone does offer opportunities for a TE which they are setup to exploit. Our LBs will be key there.

I expect a big play in special teams this week, too. State wins it 21-13 with a late TD pass on a short yardage 3rd or 4th down. We give up 4 sacks but win TOs and get a special teams/defensive TD. We must win TOs, we don’t have the horses to catch up to a multi-score deficit.
I must admit, my thoughts are in part due to the good luck UVa has had and some of the terrible luck we have had.

I don’t care for the title of this at all. Let’s leave God out of it.

  10. vtpackfan 10/26/2007 at 10:44 PM #

Evans has an impulsive reactance to look to Dunlap as soon as pressure strikes. He has shown an infinite amount of confidence in Dunlap, and the receiver has returned the favor with the ability to correct routes and make “hot route” reads. Plus he is a player captain and a Sr., so this is a big hole to fill.

McCuller is on the two deep so theoritically he could start and move Green to Crouch’s spot. I don’t know if TOB would rush to this decision since a wet field might not be an ideal place to throw someone in with a sprained knee. Any way you cut and whoever is is there, it’s an occassion that we must rise up to the challege or else.

It took six games for the staff to realize that Brown/Kuhn on one side paired with Young/Wright on the other was the best way to utilize the personnel. Remember fans that this is how things are unfolding, and this is another game and opportunity for the players/coaches to mesh. It is very gradual, but hopefully by the end of the year alot of foundation will have been prepared.

If you can tell by this post I’m not very optimistic about our chances, but I’m exciting to root for the Pack from kick off to the alma mater. Go Pack!

I expect to hear Marcus Stones name A LOT tomarrow.

“It took six games for the staff to realize that Brown/Kuhn on one side paired with Young/Wright on the other was the best way to utilize the personnel.”

Actually, I think it took a healthy Demario Pressley. Remember, we missed Cash AND Pressley against BC. I think Bedics got hurt…Did Lawsen too? Bottum line, Kuhn was playing in the middle because they needed a body there.

Stinks about Crouch. It’s a damn shame – every game, it seems like there’s a surprise injury to a starter….from my counts the following have missed a least one game:
    T. Baker
    A. Hill
    H. Beck
    McCuller
    A. Brown
    Julian Williams

    Add
    Dunlap
    Crouch

    Demario Pressley
    Alan-Michael Cash
    Bedics

and I know I’m missing a bunch on the defensive end.

When I saw the headline I thought NO!!!!!- Brandon Costner is out for the year. Thank goodness it is a football injury.

  14. rdailey 10/26/2007 at 11:54 PM #

I totally agree with beowolf, this thread is mistitled, and should not have anything to do with our God. Also, to imply God is a Tar Heel is a double insult. Clean up your act. However, we have had more than our share of injuries, and are still moving in the right direction. GO PACK!

    rdailey & beowolf:

    lighten up…

  16. Dogbreath 10/27/2007 at 8:42 AM #

folks, its a pun on the smug little Carolina rhetorical…”if God isn’t a Tarheel…”

    Lighten up.

  17. FrankManor 10/27/2007 at 9:11 AM #

I hear Dawn Bunting’s looking for something to do…give her a call and she can bring her smoldering sage to ward off the hoodoos!

  18. PAPacker 10/27/2007 at 9:32 AM #

I think we get that it’s a pun it is insulting to say “lighten up.” I know the headline was meant as a fun poke, but many of us do take offense at kidding around about God like this. So let’s continue to strive for civility and respect on this site.

  19. packgrad2000 10/27/2007 at 10:00 AM #

Oh man Chris Long is going to have a sack-fest today. Daniel Evans better develop some scrambling ability fast. It will be interesting to see the staff’s strategy on containing him.

  20. McPete 10/27/2007 at 10:32 AM #

Really the only surprise in the injury report is Crouch; that’s a big (pun intended) loss. I remember after the ECU game hearing that Dunlap was banged up (and of course J. Williams didn’t play in that game). He was the best receiver in the game and looks to be Evans go-to guy, so of course he gets hurt.

But i really wonder how the staff is going to scheme against Chris Long. Will they pull a Steve Logan ala Thursday night at VT and just pretend the quarterback isn’t getting killed every other down (I hope not)? or put a tight end on him as much as possible and chip with the RBs? As much as Steve Logan gets the “genius” moniker, I thought his stubborn play-calling the other night was going to cost the game.

FWIW, Tudor picked NC State once again this week to win (he picked ’em last week too). But if you’re looking for NC State-UVA coverage in the N&O this morning, you’ll be sorely disappointed. The game didn’t even make 1C, and there were no stories or op-ed pieces about the game. Does anyone over there know it’s homecoming week and alumni are back in town, and we’re playing a ranked opponent? I’m generally the last one to criticize the N&O (I work for the N&O), but I thought their gameday effort this morning deserves a D- (since they are giving out grades lately).

He’s not really a Tar Heel. He’s teaching State fans about humility and patience. What does not kill us will make us stronger.

He also has a special plan for UNX when BD leaves them for Arkansas. That will be another lesson in humility. Lossing their false idol will bring them back down to earth.

    Hebrews 12:5-6

5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons:

“ My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD,
    Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
6 For whom the LORD loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives.”
