Toney Baker Out For Season With Knee Injury

It gets worse.

NC State has now lost our two best offensive players for the season.

Toney Baker has injured his knee and is out for the entire season after All-ACC tight end Anthony Hill injured his knee before the season began.

Presuming that Harrison Beck replaces Daniel Evans at quarterback on Saturday, the eleven offensive players who will start the second game of the season will be comprised of only seven players that were initially listed as starters at the beginning of camp; Hill, Baker, Evans and Jerrail McCuller will have all lost their starting jobs for some reason or another.

The Wolfpack may not have a position at which we are deeper than running back. Andre Brown and Jamelle Eugene could potentially start at every ACC school other than Clemson. In a worst-case injury scenario at the position during the season, State could move Darrell Blackman into the backfield from his wide-out spot.

The start of the Tom O’Brien era in Raleigh sure could use some good news.

It’s bad enough that there hasn’t been anyone up front to help him do what he does best,…now this. I’m hoping, like many others have stated, that this MAY give the staff some to concentrate on fixing what’s been denied, and that when Baker is ready to come back there might actually be an OL in place that can assist him in realizing his potential as a collegiate/possibly professional running back.

This really does stink for Pack football and Toney Baker, However, if he can come back with a redshirt, as stated earlier, he will have a great line by then.

Ander Brown and Jamalle Eugene are still a very formidable 1-2 punch. If we get the O-line settled down (as it looked like in the 2nd half) we can still win some games. Guys like Brown really wear on a defense and by the 4th qtr they just have nothing left when a speed, shifty guy like Eugene comes in and just rips them apart.

Good luck with the surgery and best wishes Toney Baker! You will be so, so missed.
