Pressley Out Indefinitely With Knee Injury

The headline says it all. His replacement Alan Michael Cash will not make the BC game due to the death of his father.

I heard that in August a prominent UNC booster was seen handing Tonya Harding a suitcase full of case and Coors light. I think this may have something to do with the recent rash of knee injuries.

I’m going to do this again since I screwed it up last time :/

TOB is getting one helluva taste of what it’s like to be a Wolfpacker. Does any of this really shock anyone here? If so, you haven’t been a Pack fan as long as the rest of us have. It’s unreal.

Matrel Brown played DT for us years ago, so perhaps he could fill in the ranks for a week alongside Larsen, Bedics, and Kuhn. I’m dissapointed we won’t see are any more of Pressley this season, and will be w/o Cash’s services.

I still think we can hang with BC if we gets some good bounces, and start off doing more positive then negative. No more starts like last week, that’s all I ask.

Archer will have to do a masterful job planning an attack that mixes blitz’s from every spot imaginable across the field. We don’t have to blitz alot, just give Ryan something else to think about along the LOS. I do think we will need something early on to resemble a decent pass rush to prevent them from operating like clock work.

Obviously the best defense in this one is a good (not great, we have to learn how to crawl before we can walk) offense.

Noah, your a pessimist like myself. Do you really think Hill and Pressley will stay another year just because they are eligible? For some reason, for every Julius Hodge story (“I want to comeback and have a great SR. year”), there is nine “I want out of here the first chance I get.”

I don’t see Pressley or Hill passing on the NFL, even if the drop because of the question of injuries.

Unless you’re a star, going pro after your junior year when you’ve been hurt all year is an unjustifiable, enormous risk.

Hill and Pressley aren’t stars in my book. Both of them are borderline day one/day two picks. And that’s before the knee injuries.

Unless there’s something going on with them academically or personally that’s driving the decision, I think they’ll come back.

^ Would that John McCargo had agreed… though it did work out for him draft-wise.

Good point. I’m with you 100%. I just see a landscape right now of CTC recruits, a new coach saying alot of the guys are ego maniacs, and a rash of season ending injuries.

All I’m thinking is that it’s not clear cut as “Do the right thing, it’s the best thing for you in the long haul”. I don’t think guys who have been around this program for three or more years think in terms of what is “justifiable” and what is not.

good for you mcbarne2. good for you.

on another note, has anyone confirmed Pressley will miss the entire season? seems like if he underwent major reconstructive surgery that would preclude him from possibly returning, it’d have been reported just like the other two guys. so maybe he wont’ be out all year.

  11. noah 09/08/2007 at 7:38 AM #

David Glenn was quick to point out yesterday that the report did NOT indicate Pressley would miss the entire season.

    So…no…we don’t know how long he’ll miss.

Off topic (but on the topic of injured State athletes), but I thought this was a great blog entry from a Yankees perspective on Andrew Brackman at nomass.org:
    http://www.nomaas.org/brackman2.html

    A snippet:
“…despite all of the potential pitfalls along the way, it is impossible to argue that Brackman has not only elite talent, but also a uniqueness physically; he literally has almost no comparables in the history of the sport. That is why he is so exciting to think about now. Originally the worries were about whether or not he would need surgery. Well, he did, he had it, and is now on the mend. The guessing game over his health is concluded, and what’s left is a prospect with a higher ceiling than perhaps any minor leaguer in any organization. Sure, that designation is nebulous, but when you consider everything already discussed here, it is difficult to think that any other player could have a greater upside than him.”

Can we hire a witch doctor, or at least bring back Wolfman Jack to stand on the sidelines and break this 20 year hex?

  14. partialqualifier 09/08/2007 at 10:27 AM #

What about the big deal that TOB made before the season about his players NEVER getting injured due to strenuous stretching and conditioning (clears throat loudly)? Hmmm.

On a lighter note….we did play most of the game last week without Pressley and did fair. Of course we had Cash..so who knows. Bottom line is today was gonna be a loss with or without those guys. I would rather lose them now than during the final 6 games with UNC, ECU, UVA, Maryland, and Wake (all beatable teams) on the schedule.

Oh well…we’ll just have to outscore them guys!!!!

    Go Pack!!

  15. vtpackfan 09/08/2007 at 10:49 AM #

I’m not waving the white flag on this one, no sir….and we could essentially kill two birds with one stone if we play a solid all around game today.

First, we have all heard the comments about over inflated images these players have carried about themselves, and even w/o the comments coming from TOB we all along had the suspicion this was the case under the old regime.

Second. The injury bug (and off field circumstance issues w/ Cash and McCuller missing games) have hit in a huge way. It just so happens to be occuring to some of our best athletes and play makers.

While it’s not the perfect situation to go into a road conference game against argueably the best team in the Atlantic Div, it may be just what TOB and this team needs to start down the path of mending “broken” parts of this program.

These guys need to come together and have a gut check once and for all. No more relying on future NFL stars like Tyler, Williams, Lawson, Cotchery and Rivers (Hill, Pressley, Baker) to take it upon themselves to overcome mistakes by others. This team needs a concerted effort of focus, physical play, and determination like we have not seen in these parts in awhile. Most of all they need to start extending the philosophy of this staff on to the field come game time.

I’m not optimistic that even this idealistic expectation of mine will be enough to come out of Chestnut Hill with a W. But we had to know that a change in a program’s coaches this drastic would cause some big ripples this year. Let’s ride it out until the smoother waters can give us some idea what our navigational bearings should be and how soon we’ll get there. Go Pack!

  16. vtpackfan 09/08/2007 at 10:56 AM #

Also, on another note, if we are getting torched for whatever reason on defense today, just try to think positively about the future. Tobias Palmer had an INT return of 30 yards mast night, and Brandon Barnes could be an awesome DB some day. Just wishfull thinking and you never know how recruits can pan out, but it beats hyper ventilating in a bag or masking your anger with “serenity now’s!”

Its that time of year again to ask: Is there anything on earth worse than Jefferson-Pilot…err..Lincoln Financial broadcasts?

    Tom Obrien tore his ACL

  19. wolfonthehill 09/08/2007 at 1:07 PM #

So I’m in no way kidding – does any other athletics program in the country consistently suffer as many season-altering injuries to revenue-sport athletes as NC State?

I mean, I hate to sound like a “world is against us” kind of guy, but jeebus – it’s unbelievable. Arguably our top 3 players out for the year? That just doesn’t happen other places.

  20. noah 09/08/2007 at 1:54 PM #

In 1999, UNC did. They lost Brandon Spoon to a torn bicep, Ron Curry to an achilles tear and Antwan Black, the backup QB, to something else. Luke Huard also tore a muscle in his stomach, I think. That’s why they had a RB playing QB in the game against us.

  21. beowolf 09/08/2007 at 2:18 PM #

And they still beat an NC State team needing just one more win for bowl eligibility.

Doc Walker’s the Joe Morgan of football announcers.

“A big part of today’s game is going to be….WHO will score the most points?”

Is this going to serve as the game thread?

    Good things so far:
    No safeties

    Bad things so far:
