NFL Kicks Off Tonight

Ah, what a joyous day it is. Our old friend the National Football League is back in town, with a terrific opening night matchup (New Orleans at Indy). Everyone will be talking about Reggie Bush going in, but I have a feeling that Joseph Addai will be the real difference maker.

The Panthers open in St. Louis on Sunday, and it’s also an interesting matchup. Jake Delhomme has to be looking over his shoulder at former #1 overall pick David Carr, and John Fox is reportedly coaching for his job this year. Lots of talk about Torry Holt’s knee still not being 100% (which is why I targetted Drew Bennett as my favorite fantasy sleeper).

Enjoy the action – the NFL is easily the best professional sports league, and I would argue that it is the best sports league of any kind (college basketball’s regular season is less interesting, and college football’s post-season is absurd). The post-season is staged perfectly, and they have found the perfect mix for competitive balance and maximum effort from the players (no guaranteed contracts, a “hard” salary cap, and equal revenue sharing). Indeed, the “rising tide lifts all boats” saying has worked very well for the NFL. Every team has a shot, if it is run properly – as close to a true meritocracy as there can be in sports.

“I’m a Philly fan, and the fact that the Panthers have never even accepted a rookie free agent from State stinks to me. ”

    Shawn Price.

I found the Louisville – Middle Tennessee game a little more intriguing than Peyton Manning doing what Peyton Manning does weekly (destroy other teams defenses).

After last week’s game with UCF and Louisville’s victory I feared that Louisville was going to be a bad game for us. They have tons of offense but based on last nights play — not a lot of defense. So we may have more hope for that game than I thought. Coulda been a fluke — Thrusday night game with little prep but their defense was porous.

Tank Tyler will be a star in the NFL. He’s got the “it” that they look for when it comes time to play the game.

Tank’s also a great guy off the field. I’ve run into him a few times and there’s just something about him that makes you want to laugh with him.

Man, Reggie Bush is simply the GREATEST player I’ve ever seen in my life. He had THIRTY-EIGHT yards rushing last night. But WAIT! There’s more! He had FOUR…onetwothreeFOUR…catches for SEVEN whole yards!!! AND (and) he had a punt return for TWO yards!!

    Oh. My. God.

Forty-seven whole yards of total offense.

What the HELL were the Texans doing drafting anyone but this guy? And why hasn’t someone offered their entire team, a month on a carribean island with the cheerleading squad and a box of viagra, season tickets and a set of Ginsu knives to try and acquire this guy?

Reggie Bush is SO good that when he enters a city by himself, it officially counts as a siege.

Yeah, they should have resigned Spoon and let Morgan go. Beason has looked pretty good so far.

The Shelton pick was hailed as a great move at the time. I don’t think anyone thought he’d be that big of a bust.

Wahle and Lucas have been very solid players (Lucas wasn’t healthy at all last year and still was solid).

i’m sure LT had some bad games in his 1st two years as well. i’m pretty neutral when it comes to reggie bush, and i think it’s obvious the guy has special talent. who cares if the media shows him more love than mario? i bet mario doesn’t lose too much sleep over it – cuz they make really expensive beds for that!

i thought the louisville game was intruiging as well. they can be scored upon. both on the ground and through the air. but on offense, i don’t think they can be stopped w/out making their own mistakes (which they were prone to doing last night). don’t think the pack will win, but putting up 35-40 points against a top 10 team might be just the confidence they need for the bulk of the conf. schedule.

Yes, the Panther’s blue color is awful but I’ve enjoyed the clever panther face logo designed to look like the states of North and South Carolina. I suggest that the Panthers may want to look more into a Duke or UNC blue instead of the hybrid Duke/UNC mix.

When Reggie Bush does push-ups, he doesn’t push himself up…he pushes the earth down.

BTW, I have nothing against Reggie Bush. I’m sure that in about three yaers when he retires, he’ll have accumulated a perfectly mediocre, acceptable number of yards and touchdowns.

My problem is with the media bukkake that occurs whenever his name comes up.

He’s no different than Harold Miner, Vince Young, or Michael Vick…perfectly mediocre performers who occassionally make you forget how ordinary a player they are with a brief, spectacular burst of athleticism.

Reggie Bush doesn’t rush for touchdowns. His gravitational pull attracts end zones like black holes suck down star systems.

One time, Reggie Bush and Vince Young walked into a bar. The bar was instantly destroyed, as that level of awesome cannot be contained in one building.

media bukkake?!?!? thats pretty funny, but…..

    NOAH

The OL was atrocious but everyone was hurt. In the first play. After Reggie Bush roundhouse kicked a terrorist so hard that Travelle Wharton’s knee blew out and Justin Hartwig’s groin fell off.

THAT is how hard Chuck Norris…er….Reggie Bush kicks people.
