Javier Gonzalez Undergoes Surgery To Repair Ligament Damage To Shooting Thumb

By NC State Media Relations
NC State head men’s basketball coach Sidney Lowe has announced that point guard Javier Gonzalez underwent surgery on Saturday to repair a ligament in his right (shooting) thumb. Gonzales suffered the injury on Friday during a skill workout when he dove for a loose ball.

Gonzalez, a 6-0 freshman from Carolina, Puerto Rico, will be in a cast for six weeks and will be out of action for a total of 10-12 weeks.

“This is a tough thing for Javi to have to go through so early in his career,” said Lowe. “But we will look forward to his return early in the season and know that he will be able to contribute to our team this year.

vt, I sure hope you are correct about Fells this season. To be brutally honest until it hurts, and even with cedargrad93 looking in on this thread, I’d be giving the former coach HELL right now if he was still here and wasn’t getting more production and consistency out of Fells. I say that if Fells doesn’t come out from the gitgo with a totally new attitude, and ready to assert himself from day one this season, then sit him and don’t even let him sniff the court until it becomes absolutely necessary to let him in the game. Fells has the tools, but he doesn’t seem to want step up and take charge.

Uh oh, I left myself wide open to cedargrad93’s retort with that one. But before you waste your time trying to defend every player that didn’t pan out over the past decade with my own words there, try to come up with a list of former players from back then who arrived at NCSU with confidence, played consistently with confidence, and built on that confidence throughout their careers at NCSU. I have my list, and it’s a very short one.

vt, if the staff has somehow accomplished a turn around in Fells and he starts playing up somewhere close to his potential, then more than ever, I believe the sky will truly be the limit, and sooner than even I could ever have imagined.

“I’m not saying that both of those guys didn’t show flashes of being dominating players, and they both could have, and should have been. ”

don’t think Cam was going to be a “dominating” ACC player no matter the coach.
