Gavin Grant Sets the Bar High

“With the incoming freshmen we have coming in here and what we have coming back, I don’t see us losing any more than four games this year,” Grant began. “Honestly. If we stay healthy, I think we have the talent to be a Final Four team and contend for a national championship.”

He had just finished producing more bulletin-board material than there is cork in ACC country, so when Gavin Grant took a breath, the question had to be asked.

Did he know what he just said?

“I know,” the NC State swingman said. “Go ahead and print it. I meant it.”

So listen up, Tar Heel faithful and Blue Devil worshippers. Gather ’round, Clemson Tiger believers and Cavalier converts, because here it comes.

“With the incoming freshmen we have coming in here and what we have coming back, I don’t see us losing any more than four games this year,” Grant began. “Honestly. If we stay healthy, I think we have the talent to be a Final Four team and contend for a national championship.”

Pausing briefly to take a breath that surely will fan the flames, Grant continued.

“I’m not just saying that because I’m here,” he said. “Looking at the talent we have, I firmly believe that we can play with anyone in the country. There’s no team in the country that can beat us. We can only beat ourselves.”

I don’t think blown knees are because of over work. Injuries happen sometimes, just look at Duke’s squad this year.

Not that we haven’t had them in the recent past, but I can’t wait to see athletes playing basketball like,…well,…ATHLETES. It’s just such fun game to watch when it’s actually played, and played hard, not over thought and analyzed to death.

As much fun as this is right, I’d still caution, this is still just year two and everyone is still adjusting. I believe we are poised and on the verge, but the word “expect” is not in my BB vocabulary yet.

Just got my BB season ticket packet yesterday and noticed a couple of items. 1. Big Ben is conspicuously absent from the front cover. Glad to see someone caught this and pasted him into the version on Gopack. 2. I’ve got to question the wisdom of putting a coach K quote in our ticket brochure. Do we need coach K to sell us on how wonderful we the fans are? 3. Am I the only one who thinks it strange that a season ticket packet wouldn’t come with a schedule? While the 2007-08 brocher is a marked improvement over last year (I especially like the references to our past history) we still have some room for improvement in the marketing department. That said, I’m buying and mini pack and will make the drive to support the pack at least four times this year. Can’t wait for the both FB and BB to start – go Pack.

This is our senior leader announcing what he thinks of his team. I too am normally more cautious, but …

AWRIGHT GAVIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’M PROUD OF HIM!!

It’s going to be a great year, too bad I’m going to be in the UK.

be prepared for a GG Countdown at away games.
sort of like a “strikeout” tally in baseball.
might as well call NCSU basketball the
    “Gavin Grant Soundbites brought to
    you by Sidney Lowe”.
