It seemed like wonderful timing to throw this out after yesterday’s discussion about the ACC potentially making a move for a bowl game in Tampa and in light of what seems to be Lee Fowler’s perpetual desire to appease Terry Holland and schedule useless games with East Carolina.
While we are talking about playing football in the great State of Florida, take a look at this announcement yesterday:
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Notre Dame will play football games at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla., in 2011 and 2014.
No opponent has been announced for the games.
Notre Dame previously announced it planned to schedule a football game each season at neutral sites starting in 2009. It is an attempt to return the school to its independent roots.
Athletic director Kevin White has said the goal is to travel to different parts of the country and ensure that the school remains a nationwide program.
Wasn’t NC State scheduled to play a home and home vs Notre Dame at the end of this decade that was frustratingly removed from our schedule when it was announced the Irish felt that they were playing too many ACC teams AND we learned that the ACC office was doing the job of NC State’s adminstration by taking the lead in scheduling the Wolfpack’s series with Notre Dame?
Isn’t there some recent history of State and Notre Dame matching up in Florida to produce one of the best wins of NC State’s football history? (28-6)
Why NOT pursue filling one of Notre Dame’s spots in the Citrus Bowl?
With that said, take a look at this announcement from Saturday morning that the Irish will be playing Washington State in San Antonio, TX on Halloween, 2009.
Just a thought…but, NC State feels very much like a “Washington State”-type of opponent, do we not?
