E.J. Whitley Decides Today on ESPNU

3 Star Safety E.J. Whitley decides between NC State and Virginia Tech today on ESPNU.

Whitley was previously rumored as a strong lean to NC State before taking a last minute trip to Virginia Tech last week. He is ranked as one of the top 20 high school players in the state of North Carolina and is an important target for NC State; especially in light of losing the contest for Chris Culliver last season.

Noah… I think you misread who posted what above. I didn’t say anything about anyone being negative… rather it was said about me.

Waxhaw: Point well taken. My beef is with all of us “adults” making such a big deal about this three start recruit who is third best on his own highschool team and has a bum knee. With that said, I’m sure EJ didn’t think up the presser by himself. Also, I’m sure some state fan here in raleigh actually left work to go to a sports bar with U to see the announcement. And I bet his name starts with Mr. and ends with O.

    Be honest, Mr. O.

Looks like VPI (not official). Oh well…

Oh well is right. I do wish the kid the best. Hell I wish all kids the best. I also like puppies and think they all go to heaven. Please don’t construe my comments above as me not liking this individual kid because he might not pick the Pack. I don’t even know him. I hope he goes to Tech and becomes an All American so long as he never intercepts a Glennon pass the whole time he’s there.

It’s official now. Good luck to him.

One more thing, my personal opinion is that safeties are a dime a dozen. I’m not going to get bent out of shape one way or another if the world’s best safety picks us or picks our rival.

However, Whitley, as was mentioned above, was linked rather loudly to Manning. And that guy IS a critical recruit.

    Any news on Whitley?

Is VPI also one of Manning’s finalists?

pam-pack – I don’t know. I thought it was Clemson or us for Manning, but I could be mistaken. I was just looking for as many cards in our favor as possible.

sorry, no link. but according to this blogger, it’s NC State or Florida. He also reports Manning being a hard lean towards the pack, but so was whitley a couple of weeks ago.

Whitley would have been great, and maybe he will reconsider before signing date. I like our current roster of DB’s and think we will be fine though. Palmer and Barnes from could be on that side of the ball some day.

I just hope Manning comes along, and Wallace and Becton soon after. Go PAck!

Ga Wolf: Did you see me at Playmakers? I may be a bit crazy, but not that crazy.

So E.J. decides to become the 4th safety taken by Va. Tech this year? I admire his competitive nature and good luck being the 6th safety taken in the last 2 years. Davon Morgan signed last year with Va. Tech as a 4 star and is listed as a 3rd string FS after being redshirted last year.

Anyone remember George Bell? He was an extremely well-regarded tailback out of Fayetteville. However, he had a serious knee injury his senior year. He narrowed his choices to NCSU and VPI and ultimately, cast his fate with the Hokies.

I don’t believe he ever saw meaningful playing time. His knee injury was either far more serious than his coach let us believe…or he just wasn’t good enough. Seems like he got moved to fullback and then ended up quitting or transferring.

And not getting Bell had a big impact on us getting Andre Brown. That situation turned out remarkably well.

I was down in Manteo this weekend and read in the big paper down that way… I believe it is the Coastland Times maybe… an article about the former DB from VTech that has joined the staff there after an NFL career ending injury. I don’t recall the DB-turned-coach’s name, but he’s very young for a D1 full-time coach. There was a quote in the article from Whitley’s mom that said this coach made the difference in Eddie’s decision to go to Tech. For whatever that’s worth…
