Lee Fowler Can’t Spell Sidney Lowe’s Name

The latest “PackPlus” newsletter can be found by clicking here.

“PackPlus” is an internal newsletter done by the NC State Athletics administration for the athletics and academics community on campus. Wolfpack Club Reps used to receive them in the mail (and I suspect that they still do).

“Coach Fowler” usually writes a propaganda piece extolling how wonderful things are within his Athletics Department that has won fewer Atlantic Coast Conference Championships during his tenure than any other program within the ACC. He even signs the column with his own signature so that you know that it is coming from him.

Unfortunately, “Lee” serves to put some real egg on his face in this issue’s column. Note how “Lee” spells the name of NC State Head Basketball Coach, SIDNEY Lowe.

* Coach Sydney Lowe had an outstanding first season leading the Pack to 20 wins and the NIT.

* Coaches Sydney Lowe and Tom O’Brien…

In the ^column Fowler writes, he spells Sidney “Sydney” not once, but twice. Everywhere else in the article (columns Fowler doesn’t write), Coach Lowe’s first name is spelled correctly.

Are you really surprised? Some might argue that a true leader should know how to spell the two-syllable name of coach whose checks he signs and total almost a million dollars per year.

Lee is a total embarassment and has to rate 0 on the leadership scale.
He is what he is and I can’t see him so of a sudden becoming a great leader that demands success.

What is more troubling to me is that Oblinger and BOT can’t/haven’t see right through the man.

I am afraid we not only have an incompetent AD, but a weak Chancellor and a BOT that makes stupid assessments of Lee’s performance.

As for you alumni, that are trying to make a statement by not giving, that is pathetic. Tell those folks you aren’t going to give, but give anyway. We sure as heck ain’t going to improve if we can raise funds.

State’s problems forever have been poor leadership, no vision, and lack of fundraising. Now, we seem to be able to raise a little money, but still lack in leadership at all the high levels in the university.

It is depressing, god, how I wish we still had MA Fox. Fowler would be gone if she were still here.

Not to defend Lee or anything, but… I seriously doubt that Lee wrote any of that piece. Perhaps he directed an aid to include info about various subjects. Someone else probably wrote it. That person spelled Sid’s name wrong, and in proofing, if indeed it was proofed, the mistake simply got missed. Seems like a very easy thing to check on, but those are exactly the type of errors that sneak through, because no one is looking for them.

They should enter the correct spelling into their Word dictionary so that this will never happen again.

BTW, many, many people posting on this site have spelled Sid’s name wrong.

“Trustees chairman Wendell Murphy commented: “He allows his coaches to get the praise while taking much of the criticism. blah, blah, blah…”

Oblinger: Uh oh Lee, we’re not looking too good right now in that one sport with the oblong brown ball.

LF: Excuse me Wendell, you know it’s not my sport either. Shucks, everyone calls me “Coach” because of my basketball expertise, but that sport you’re refering to is called football. BTW don’t forget we hired that new coach, that Tim O’Brian guy from, uh…, Boston College I think it was. You know I could have handled that hire, BUT NO!!!, I was asked to step aside and out of the loop on that one. But don’t worry Mr. Murphy sir, even if Tim doesn’t do so well I’ll still be here collecting my big ol’ fat check and more than willing to take the criticism. Hey Chancellor, look at that big ol’ brand new building over there. Ain’t she a beaut!!!

Oblonger: Oh my goodness, it is nice Lee. But who’s in charge of the decorating, those pillow shams are hideous.

LF: I picked those out myself, but don’t you worry Mr Chancellor Sir, I’ll be more then glad to take care of that for you Sir. Shucks, all I had planned today anyway was to get together with the folks in the SID and put together some new exciting info for the media, and to devise some nifty new reruiting tools. But hell, that all can wait until next year, don’t you think Sir?

Oblonger: You’re damn right it can. Now snap to it! Get out there and get some pretty pillows this time. I’m taking these hideous things home just to get them out of sight.

What more could a Chancellor, and NC State’s biggest booster ask for, then a highly paid administrator who is really good at taking criticism.

There IS one thing I agree on, Lee Fowler probably didn’t have damn clue about any of it.

I was not rude to the student and never would be, but I just cannot give money to them directly because of very strong feelings about the Admin and Fowler. I’ll support them in other ways until a change is made, but frankly, I think money is the only thing they are understanding right now!

Fred, Fowler not writing the article may even be more damning that writing it and misspelling Sydney’s name!

  7. MrPlywood 06/07/2007 at 11:25 PM #

LOL – the question is, did hIghstick misspell Sydney [sic] on purpose?

  8. highstick 06/08/2007 at 6:26 AM #

LOL, you caught that, huh??? Thought I’d slip it in and see if everyone was paying attention. Didn’t mean to stir up to much with my comment about hanging up on the Alumni Assn, but they were trying to sell me that darned Alumni Directory again. The last time I bought one, half of the info was out of date and incorrect that I wanted anyway.

uhhhh… I think we have great coaches for football and basketball so I plan to continue to support the Wolfpack Club.

I’m a bottom line kinda guy; I may not like Fowler all that much but I overall I’m extremely happy with coaches for revenue sports.

    MrPlywood,

Lee Fowler should sign his name and put his picture on columns that he didn’t write – or at the very least read before signing. What is the rationalization for that?

Does anyone at NC State ever have to take responsibility or ownership for anything?

  11. Rick 06/08/2007 at 10:15 AM #

    No they do not.

I think I will do to see if they are hiring.

I’m gonna..set fire to the building

  13. WolfPup35 06/08/2007 at 7:21 PM #

Where did Foulup go to college, UNX???

  14. RabidWolf 06/08/2007 at 7:55 PM #

I do love the office space references!

I only see ten pieces of flair!

  15. highstick 06/08/2007 at 9:50 PM #

Maybe it was “Annybelle” who wrote the piece for Fowler! Intentional misuse if the spelling of her name again!!

I know most of you aren’t old enough, but “setting fire to a building” should never be used by a State grad/student/fan, etc. I was a student when the campus pyromaniac was loose and burned down one of the admin buildings between Riddick Stadium and the Belltower. What a blaze that was that night!

I never understood why donations to the ACADEMIC side of a school and applications for admissions always go way up when the school wins a national championship in something, but the comments in this thread have certainly shed some light on it in a negative sort of way…

[…] The title of the blog entry definitely does not fit the meat of the commentary since Sidney Lowe (or is it Sydney?) is not the focus of the piece in any way. There is nothing really in the piece outside of the obvious that DeGand, Johnson and Gonzalez will fight for playing time at the point guard position to manage a team with a lot of wing and front court depth and talent. […] With Gavin Grant’s presence now guaranteed, the Wolfpack is certain to return the bulk of last season’s squad that improved and looked more comfortable with each game. In fact, just last week a website listed that Coach Sidney Lowe’s team will return two of the top ten players in the entire conference in Brandon Costner and Gavin Grant. In case you missed it, you will definitely want to read this entry regarding Brandon Costner. […]
