Lee Fowler Can’t Spell Sidney Lowe’s Name

The latest “PackPlus” newsletter can be found by clicking here.

“PackPlus” is an internal newsletter done by the NC State Athletics administration for the athletics and academics community on campus. Wolfpack Club Reps used to receive them in the mail (and I suspect that they still do).

“Coach Fowler” usually writes a propaganda piece extolling how wonderful things are within his Athletics Department that has won fewer Atlantic Coast Conference Championships during his tenure than any other program within the ACC. He even signs the column with his own signature so that you know that it is coming from him.

Unfortunately, “Lee” serves to put some real egg on his face in this issue’s column. Note how “Lee” spells the name of NC State Head Basketball Coach, SIDNEY Lowe.

* Coach Sydney Lowe had an outstanding first season leading the Pack to 20 wins and the NIT.

* Coaches Sydney Lowe and Tom O’Brien…

In the ^column Fowler writes, he spells Sidney “Sydney” not once, but twice. Everywhere else in the article (columns Fowler doesn’t write), Coach Lowe’s first name is spelled correctly.

Are you really surprised? Some might argue that a true leader should know how to spell the two-syllable name of coach whose checks he signs and total almost a million dollars per year.

The record speaks for itself! Why is this goofus still employed by a school that is “committed” to “Achieve!”

Geez Louise. No wonder he can’t fire anyone, he can’t even spell their names.

He probably tried to fire Herb a few times, but the mail kept getting returned because it was addressed Herb Sendeck

I appreciate that NCSU is loyal to its employees, but Mr. Fowler appears to be a reactive administrator and not a proactive one. Maybe 35 years ago the competition in college athletics didn’t require a cut throat attitude, but it certainly does now. Mr. Fowler seems like a good ol boy who is probably a better fit for a community college.

Anyway, let the embarassment continue to increase as alumni donations decrease for our university.

Niether can somebody else in the AD department as seen on page 2 under “Staff Happenings”:

“AD Lee Fowler hired in Sept. 2000, was awarded
a three year contract extension through 2013 as recommended
by Chancellor Oblinger and approved by
the Board of Trustees. Trustees chairman Wendell
Murphy commented: “He allows his coaches to get
the praise while taking much of the criticism. He communicates
well with those who report to him and to the Wolfpack
constituency. The building program speaks for itself.”
Fowler has overseen a $120 million building campaign
and also conducted the searches resulting
in the hiring of Sydney Lowe and Tom O’Brien.
(The News and Observer) â–  Rollie Geiger in his 25th
season as cross country and track and field coach,
was given a contract extension through 2010.
Geiger was recently named assist. AD for track and cross country.
Other coaches that recently had their contracts extended include
Elliott Avent, Kay Yow and Sydney Lowe.”

As usual, I fail to see why Lee Fouler (see I can do it too) is still employed by our university. I suppose he’s better than Todd Turner, but that’s like saying that drinking antifreeze is better than drinking gasoline.

Fowler was brought in for the purpose of improving the facilities. That job is almost over and I think he will move on in fairly short order. He’s much like Amato in the AD position. He’s improving facilities and getting some things in order, but it will take someone like Bobby Purcell to really run the athletic department the way it should be and make it what it can be.

evidentally, herb was fired in 2002 and nobody bothered to tell him about it. but through some “glitch” in the payroll software, he just kept getting a check…. so we fixed “the glitch”

a shiny sixpence to the first who catches the reference. lush ??

  10. highstick 06/07/2007 at 1:58 PM #

I hope you’re right about him leaving. I hung up on the Alumni Association the other night cause I won’t give money to them ever again as long as that idiot is still there!

  11. lush 06/07/2007 at 2:02 PM #

“yeeaahh, im going to need you to go ahead and move down to storage room c. let me just grab that stapler. thhaannnkss milltonnn.”

  12. Trout 06/07/2007 at 2:02 PM #

^ I realize you are trying to make a statement, but the Alumni Association has nothing to do with Fowler being the AD. The Wolfpack Club has more “say-so” in the AD department than the Alumni Association.

Was it a student caller you hung up on?

  13. packbackr04 06/07/2007 at 2:03 PM #

    so you fired him???

no, we “fixed the glitch” so it should just work itself out naturally.

“I realize you are trying to make a statement, but the Alumni Association has nothing to do with Fowler being the AD.”

While that may be, Oblinger feels only losses in “other” areas than sports apparently. I’ve, therefore, refused to give to ANYTHING related to NCSU for the last two years as I refuse to contribute to any group representative of an entity that says one thing and then turns around and does exactly the opposite – it probably applies to all areas, too! (And in case you think I’m shorting academic scholarships for deserving students, I’ve redirected my giving to other schools until Foulup is gone!)

Chancellor: now Bobby Purcell, he has upper level management written all over him

LF: yeah im going to have go ahead and disagree with you on that one, hes been having some problems with his fundraising reports.

Chancellor: and what would you say your job is here at NCSU mr. fowler?

    LF: ummmmmmmmm

  16. McPete 06/07/2007 at 3:15 PM #

Bob: What would you say you DO here?
    LF: I HAVE PEOPLE SKILLS!

“What would you do if you had a million dollars”

“I’d do two chicks at the same time”

  17. lush 06/07/2007 at 3:31 PM #

“Anybody ever ask if you have a case of the mondays?”

What? Naw, man. Shit naw. Somebody ask that they’re lible to get their ass kicked”

Lee IS the epitome of a turd in the punch bowl.

As much as I hate to admit it I feel (or felt) the same as old13. I have not hung up on Alumni Assoc., Engineering Dept., etc students calling, but have made it politely clear over the last several years that until and unless some changes are made re. AD and athletics in general I am DONE giving. Re. Oblinger’s – I’m really not sure these types understand that once you have been out of school for years, established your businesses, raised some kids, the only real touch you really have with the university is football and basketball – especially when your kids chose other schools. Yeah I know that is short-sited, stupid, selfish, etc on my part, but if you don’t have success in these sports it is hard to get fired up about the engineering dept.
BUT having said all that, positive changes HAVE been made IMO. Lowe has impressed us all and I am very high on O’Brien as I think most of us are. So old13 we need to reconsider our responses. I know I plan to – at least when i can get the damn out of state tuition paid off. A conference basketball or football title would make many of us feel like the other areas of State deserved some $$$’s.

If you want to financially support representatives of an institution that does not fire on the spot an employee who insults financial givers in print, then go right ahead. I WILL NOT! If the NCSU motto is “Achieve,” then why is the school not administered in all areas in like fashion!

In case anyone cares, Brackman’s a yankee.

Didn’t know he lost his girlfriend in a car accident this year.

Sorry to threadjack, but Brackman is now a Yankee.
    Congrats and good luck #40!

“Hold on there a second, professor….we fixed the glitch.”

“That way, the problem just works itself out…”

Noah: That happened right before the ACC tourney just a few weeks ago.
