^ i wish that he would have stuck w/ basketball. i think the same could have been said for his skill set on the court. oh well…. best of luck to him, i hope he gets traded to the Braves

or anyone other than the yanks

I’m not a Yankee’s fan, but it is a successful organization, which does try (maybe not as successfully as they did 10-15 years ago) and use people form their farm system.

As far as organization goes, he got taken by one of the better ones in baseball.

I’m much happier he’s with the Yankees, than if he was with many other organizations, like the Phillies, who just don’t care about winning and have a so-so, at best, farm system.

thats fine. he can use there program to enhance his skills and get prepared to be a mlb starter, good for him. i just dont want to see him pitch a regular season game in a yankees uniform

Maybe when the Yankees make a push for Andruw Jones, the Braves can pick up Brackman as a prospect. I can dream right?

that would be the yanks mo. wait for an all-star to be past his prime and give him a ridiculous contract.

What a choke by the Gamecocks tonight against the Tarholes! Dang, they had ’em on the ropes and blew it!

Other NC State draftees: (My apologies if this is repeat information)

    Eryk McConnell (Balt, #309)
    Caleb Mangum (Phil, #743)
    Ramon Corona (SF, #794)

McConnell and Corona are Jr’s so they might come back if they want to improve their position or finish school (or both); Mangum is a senior.

I read a couple of wishful thinking posts about Brackman traded to the Braves; unfortunately that can’t happen anytime soon. Baseball lives in the dark ages of not trading draft picks, and not trading signed players until 6 or so months after they sign their first deal.

I’m not a big Yankees fan myself, although I will root for A-Rod. And I’ll root for Brackman to win everytime out. That’s one great thing (among many) about baseball- players can kick ass and the team can still suck. Hell, it would be possible for Brackman to go undefeated and the Yankees still have the worst record in history in a single season.

“That’s one great thing (among many) about baseball- players can kick ass and the team can still suck.”

Actually, that’s exactly what I dislike the most about the game of baseball. Just put a burner out there on the mound and the rest of the team can pretty much take the night off. “Team” really isn’t a factor much of the time.

^ Not really. You have to score a run to win; see Wood, Kerry and Prior, Mark circa 2004 for prime examples of pitchers (and there are scores of others) whose brilliant pitching performances would be squandered because the team “took the night off”.

On an isolated basis, I see your point. But over 162 games, a team won’t win enough games by tossing one dominant pitcher out there to make the playoffs, which is (or should be) the ultimate goal.

Now, you do see this concept of one guy controlling the whole game in younger leagues (like, 15 and under). And that definitely makes the game boring, if you happen to be on the wrong end of the matchup.

But hey, if Brackman wants to be a boring, non-team guy and pitch 35 shutouts a year, I’ll enjoy watching it.

I forgot the best example of the dominant pitcher who needs the team; Nolan Ryan. One year dude was 8-16 w/ an era in the 2’s. Team took too many nights off. Bet it pissed that guy off too.

so how much $$ did Brack lose by slipping from the # 5-10 draft position (projections preseason) all the way to #30? Regardless of how you feel about the Yankees, probably more exciting for a young player to be drafted by a storied franchise rather than one of these “rent a stadium” small market teams (Diamondbacks, Devil Rays, etc.)
