Dear God no, not the bleeping Yankees! Don’t sign, Brack!

Darn, now I can’t draft him to be the obligatory wolfpacker on my NL-only stratomatic team (spot currently being filled by Joey “roughest MLB debut ever” Devine).

I am happy for him, particularly as he did not slip to the second round as some had predicted.

And anyway, can you imagine signing your first professional contract with the New York Yankees – probably the most storied franchise in all of sports history! That is awesome for a kid who grew up a baseball fan, no matter what their favorite team.

I am no Yankees fan, of that there is no doubt – but you should only cheer on this kid who gave so much to NC State in the three years he was here.

Maybe they’ll do what BoSox ended up doing with Papelbon and turn AB into a closer. Mariano Rivera needs an understudy.

^ Cedar echoes the majority position! No offense intended, just couldn’t pass that up.

The Yanks haven’t run a draft pick successfully through the ranks since the Jeter group in the early 90s. He’ll be a “minor league player to be named later” sometime next summer.

i’m a braves fan so i cringe anytime i hear chip carey say that joey devine is warming up in the bullpen.

    “hate the yanks”

Damnit Cedar, we do have common ground afterall.

    LRM – Phil Hughes?

Devine has been pitching well at Mississippi this year. I imagine he’ll get another shot at the bigs later this year…especially with Gonzo on the mend.

Big NBA game on, gotta run.

    ZZZZZ…snore…ZZZZZ

Devine has always done well in Mississippi for some reason. He has 14 saves and a 1.69 ERA this season, although he’s a setup guy in Atlanta, and that’s some tight competition right now. I was suprised Boyer got called up over him because he’s had control issues in Richmond, although it’s worked out well so far. I look forward to Joey getting called up and staying around, though.

Be nice to see an A on Brack’s hat someday, too.

Wow — 1st round pick of the NY Yankees — best of luck to AB! Although I’m not a Yankee fan — mainly because they take other franchises’ best players — I’d love for AB to be a “homegrown” Yankee Star!!

Love the Yanks, just hate Steinbrenner.

    Still remember the batting order:
    1. Bobby Richardson
    2. Tony Kubek
    3. Mickey Mantle
    4. Roger Maris
    5. Moose Skowron
    6. Clete Boyer(Rest in Peace)
    7. Yogi
    8. Hank Bauer/Elston Howard
    9. Whitey Ford

    highstick,
I love the Yankees too, but I don’t go back as far as you do. I came up with Reggie, Munson, Dent, Rivers, Catfish and those guys.

I’m very, very happy for AB. It will be so great seeing him in that uniform. You people can hate the Yankees all you want to but that has to be a dream come true for any ball player.

Just another quick note of local NC interest – Madison Bumgarner, a left handed pitcher from South Caldwell High School near Hickory, NC went 10th overall to San Francisco.

Watched him play this past weekend in the 4A state championships where he had a great performance, picking up the win in Game 1, giving up only 1 run, and knocking an in-the-park HR to finish off a mercy rule victory in Game 2.

PP has a good article on the “big 3” in bball. I agree. this could be a great bball season for the 3 triangle teams. sorry for the hijack. back to agreeing with me. 🙂

What is this world coming to? I also agree with Cedar 🙂

  23. LRM 06/08/2007 at 12:35 PM #

guess it just proves that in the end, we all go to nc state.

“Maybe they’ll do what BoSox ended up doing with Papelbon and turn AB into a closer. Mariano Rivera needs an understudy.”

I don’t think teams typically take 6-10 guys who can throw multiple plus pitches and put them in the bullpen. Brackman is the very definition of raw prospect, once he gets a few years of instruction under his belt and can improve his control, he’s got the ability to be an ace.
