State Tennis Advances to Final 8!!!

Unbelievable!!

FINALLY NC State gets some real success in a non-revenue sport not named cross country.

NC State defeated traditional tennis powerhouse, Texas, today to advance to the NCAA Final 8. We’d like to thank Texas’ internet presence for running the story of their loss while GoPack.com – at the time of this entry – still has no mention of the Pack’s big win on their website.

Of course…that (sadly) doesn’t surprise anyone.

    Packaholic,

The guys that run Statefans can speak for themselves of their objective for their blog; however, I personally do not come here for Statefans to report the news/results for NCSU Athletics on a daily basis.

In fact, I do not want a blog of a “report” of daily athletics results since GoPack is the source for that information.

Statefans was just pointing out the delay in that info being added to the GoPack especially considering the matches took place and were completed in the morning.

redfred2 – LOL!! This is off-topic, obviously, but you have brought back high school memories of someone who remembers Parker Myers from Myers Park, and his lovely wife, Peaches, from when WROQ was the radio station to listen to in Charlotte.

    Skeet,

That was some of funniest stuff ever on radio back when Robert Murphy was there in Charlotte. They were great at poking fun of every little nuance of the area.

Skeet Hooter, since everyone else has apparently abondoned this thread because they’re either too young, or not from the area and don’t have a clue what we’re talking about, remember this… The sound of doorway being busted and torn all to pieces because he couldn’t fit through, then, “Uh, Midda Murpee, how bout one ah dem big ol, BIG OOoooL, OKRA cream filled JEeeeeLLY doughnuts, Midda Murpee?” Then the sound of something like a metal dog bowl being chased all over the floor as “The King” slurped up his donut du jour?

Too funny! But Parker and Peaches were my all time favorite.

I can’t remember the name of the guy who did all of the characters and stuff, Larry ??? something.

Why the hell couldn’t they host at Walnut Creek? Those are (at least lasy time I was there) some decent facilities and it seems like the fields are well enough maintained……

FYI – Baylor won 4-0 today. Good season for the men’s tennis team.

redfred2 – Sorry, I did not respond back over the weekend – out camping with some Boy Scouts. You might not be checking back on this, but the Larry you were thinking of is Larry Sprinkle. He is still on one of the TV stations in Charlotte, as weather guy, I think. He was the guy that did just about all of those voices/ imressions. Parker and Peaches and Elvis were the best characters. I guess 95.1 changed to pop or R&B or or hip-hop or something a while back, and it’s not even WROQ, anymore. I remember there was a DJ that went by “JB” that we all thought was so cool with his rock tunes selection. A number of years ago, I heard him somewhere else, and he was playing Top 40 stuff. Guess ol’ JB had go to where the money was. Things change I guess, or maybe I’m just getting old. Anyway, thanks for sparking those memories!

    Skeet,

Just checking back in here. I remember JB, I think Jay Thomas, as in Carla’s husband on “Cheer’s”, was also a DJ at WROQ for a while back then.

“Things change I guess, or maybe I’m just getting old.”

Unfortunately, there is no “guess”ing in that, for either one of us.

    redfred,
I think Jay Thomas was on WROQ for a very short time. Before that, I want to remember he was the morning guy on WAYS, 610 AM, in the early 70s. WAYS was sort of the predecessor to ROQ, but on AM, doing the “album” cuts of rock. I guess that was about the time FM was getting big, and that sort of radio moved to FM, and, particularly, WAYS to WROQ was that deal in Charlotte. Whatever… Enough of that stuff…
    GO PACK!!
