Somebody Will Be Added Tonight

Somebody will be added to this list tonight:

National Championships

Note: Obviously we have a typographical error – Louisville won the 1980 National Basketball Championship (not the 1990 Title).

Of the thirteen schools with multiple National Championships, only seven schools have won National Championships with different coaches at the helm of the program.

Obviously, NC State is one of those seven schools whose overall PROGRAM is strong enough to rise to the top of the Nation without relying on just one coach (like a Jim Calhoun or Coach K or Billy Donovan).

Those liberal stat wizards over in Chapel Hill would say you have two errors. They claim to have five titles.

  2. StateFans 04/02/2007 at 1:56 PM #

    YMCA Titles do not count.

  3. redfred2 04/02/2007 at 1:56 PM #

That’s the WOLFPACK of NC STATE…

ONE of thirteen teams in all of college basketball, with multiple NCAA championships.

  4. Cosmo96 04/02/2007 at 1:57 PM #

That’s why I was pulling for UCLA, they’re already on the list. I want the list to remain as exclusive as possible, but now someone else will be added.

  5. redfred2 04/02/2007 at 1:59 PM #

ONE behind the great and all mighty Duke Blue Devils, and TWO behind the untouchable UNC Tar Heels.

It would be great if we could win our third national title. We would join only five other schools.

  7. WTNY 04/02/2007 at 2:07 PM #

I’m with Cosmo. I wanted UCLA to ring up #12.

there’s more to being a top program than NCAA championships:

    Final Fours:

    unc: 15
    duke: 12

    NCSU: 2

SFN: You may want to check that

  9. CedarGroveWolf 04/02/2007 at 2:15 PM #

    ACC Championships:

    unc: 16
    duke: 16

    NCSU: 10

  10. lush 04/02/2007 at 2:15 PM #

^so are you a duke fan or a carolina fan?

  11. StateFans 04/02/2007 at 2:17 PM #

It is somehow bad to have won 10 ACC Titles when the next closest program is Wake Forest with only 4? Only 2 of 12 ACC Teams have won more ACC Titles.

  12. burnbarn 04/02/2007 at 2:20 PM #

the winner of 2nites game will have two.

  13. CedarGroveWolf 04/02/2007 at 2:21 PM #

not bad at all. Just putting everyone’s expectations in perspective.

SF, please correct me if me #’s are wrong.

  14. CedarGroveWolf 04/02/2007 at 2:22 PM #

“so are you a duke fan or a carolina fan”

    same as you

  15. RickJ 04/02/2007 at 2:25 PM #

Here’s another way to put it in perspective –

NC State’s 2 National Championships & 10 ACC Championships are than Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Miami, South Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest have won in either category combined.

  16. CedarGroveWolf 04/02/2007 at 2:27 PM #

I thought we want to be compared to the best?

  17. CedarGroveWolf 04/02/2007 at 2:28 PM #

    out, back in the am

  18. joe 04/02/2007 at 2:32 PM #

7 out of 13 means having 2 coaches win is not a rare thing – it’s over 50%.

  19. lush 04/02/2007 at 2:35 PM #

    cedar,

since when does herbs #1 fan care about being compared to the best?according to you, we shouldnt expect to compete, we should be happy with our progress thus far. i guess you’ve decided that the last 10 years werent good enough, congratulations, your now on the page with the rest of us.

  20. BillyTheKid 04/02/2007 at 2:40 PM #

Case went to the Final Four in 1950, that makes 3.

  21. Rick 04/02/2007 at 2:46 PM #

    Oh this is too rich.

The defender of all things average has now done a complete 180 and suddenly has HGIH EXPECTATIONS.

Goes years excusing every blip on Herb’s record and now wants to compare our sevles to UNC and Duke.

You are truly a sad little man.

  22. BoKnowsNCS71 04/02/2007 at 2:47 PM #

I tell you. Why someone has to be a burr under the saddle all the time is a wonder to me.

  23. Cedarblockhead 04/02/2007 at 2:48 PM #

What is up with the insults?

Anyway the truth is we did compete with the best when Herb was here. His goal was to win championships and had us going in that direction. It is not his fault his players kept leaving and getting hurt.

    Peace out

  24. WTNY 04/02/2007 at 2:49 PM #

    Cedar: some links for you:

    1950 NCAA Tournament

    1949-50 North Carolina State Wolfpack

Some of those names from the ’49-’50 team should be familiar to you: Vic Bubas, Dick Dickey, and Sam Ranzino.

  25. Six Pack 04/02/2007 at 2:53 PM #

Damn it Billy you beat me to it! I was hoping to pull that 1950 blurb out. The Pack lost to City College of NY and won the consolationgame to place 3rd, that year. Norm Sloan played on that team.
