In memoriam

Tonight students at NC State are meeting on Harris Field in front of Witherspoon Student Center for a candlelight vigil in memory of the students slain yesterday in the senseless massacre at our sister institution, Virginia Tech. For those of us who cannot be there, we light a virtual candle here. Godspeed to the souls released yesterday, may God’s grace and comfort be on the families and the friends who lost loved ones, and may God’s healing and comfort come quickly to the other victims of that day.

    “At home drawing pictures
    Of mountaintops”

How could a man reach such a low place in life as to come to the conclusion that murdering so many people is the right choice?

I cannot even imagine the pain being suffered by the families of the dead and wounded of VT Nation. My prayers go out to them and my hope is that they can find comfort in the love of God which will get them through this trying time. My word to them is that we DO feel your pain and you are not alone in your agony.

There is nothing I can say. There is nothing I can do. But I pray this never ever happens again to anyone anywhere. Amen

All of our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families of the slain and injured. We pray for comfort, We pray for healing, and we pray for the Va Tech Family to find the strength to come together and make it through this tough time.

We are all Hokies right now. With kids and friends at UVa, the VT biggest rival, for the first time in history, they are all saying they are all Hokies now too. They are wearing VT shirts and hats putting up Hokie signs.
Got this link as a parent: http://www.virginia.edu/vatechsupport/
    Go HOKIES.

As a Hokie Parent, I appreciate all the thoughts and prayers expressed. I too pray for the students, friends and families that were more directly impacted than we were. Hopefully the wide spread support shown will give some measure of comfort to those that are grieving the loss of a loved one.

I was at the vigil on the State campus last night…

I think its safe to say that everyone IS a Hokie right now. This tragedy has deeply affected me. I am at a complete loss of words. Its very haunting. I have always concidered VaTech as a sort of sister school to NCState and feel even more love for them now then ever. I hope they can get thru this.

Did I hear that the Washington Nationals all donned VPI hats last night? Nice touch if it’s true.

It’s true. Saw it on the news.

I’ve been so impressed with the spirit and closeness of the VT community over the past 2 days. In my heart, mind and thoughts, I’m a Hokie with them.

“Much violence is based on the illusion that life is a property to be defended and not to be shared.” Henri Nouwen

Between the year 2000 and 2004, 414 North Carolinians aged 19 or younger were killed by gun fire. Every 9 days, a child in North Carolina is fatally shot.

As we Pray for everyone at VT, may we also Pray for our Nation, your State, your city/town ….. Pray that this never happens again. Pray that we can come together as a Nation and stop the violence.

I just hope that the entire Hokie community realizes and takes to heart that

“Times like these are not meant to break us, but to bend us toward God”

This is a great tragedy and everyone involved will be in our thoughts and prayers.

“Much violence is based on the illusion that life is a property to be defended and not to be shared.” I’m not trying to be funny/stupid (though I can be both), what does that mean??

  19. BillyTheKid 04/18/2007 at 4:53 PM #

It means where is the love for each persons life, not just your life or my life. We are ALL in this together, that means everybody, not just the people that look, act, talk, and think like us. branjawn, I’ve got to go find something to cook for my kids, you have a wonderful night.

You’re implying the most people don’t care about the lives of those not “like” them? Life should be defended, that quote doesn’t make sense. I don’t see how it’s relevant to this week’s happenings. It makes some pretty definitive yet vague claims.
