Fox Sports – NC State Ranked 25th for 2007-08 Season

Here’s some nice press for Lowe and company:

25. NC State
Sidney Lowe’s team loses senior point guard Engin Atsur, but look for Iowa State transfer Farnold Degand to step in and provide help running the team. Degand will have plenty of weapons as the Wolfpack return their other four starters — Brandon Costner, Gavin Grant, Ben McCauley and Courtney Fells — and welcome a pair of talented frosh — J.J. Hickson and Tracy Smith.

The plot thickens. Maybe GAWolf knows more and can elaborate. Per WRAL:

Lee Turner, an attorney representing North Carolina State assistant coach Larry Harris, said the complaint accused Officer R.W. King of assault, excessive force and conduct unbecoming an officer.

  5. statered 04/05/2007 at 4:56 PM #

    gotcha

  6. GAWolf 04/05/2007 at 5:06 PM #

For what it’s worth, Lee Turner is a credible attorney and former Raleigh Police Officer who is well aware of the conduct that is expected of a police officer.

Good for Harris – the best way to manage bad PR is to fight fire with fire.

I am willing to bet all the mony I would make this year that this is nothing more than some stupid red neck cop pulling over esclaide in down town raleigh for “speeding” Trying to show his “power” and “athourity” It makes me sick, and I am not just saying this because I am a nc state fan. I see this stuff happen all the time. My brother has been pulled over so many times becasue he has a car that has 22″ rims and tinted windows. Just to find out that he is white, the officer feels like such a dumb ass when they search his car and find nothing. I am not saying all cops are like this, but it is out there and to turn your head and think its not you are crazy

  9. cpwolfpackfan 04/05/2007 at 5:08 PM #

    raliegh cops are jokes anyway

  10. redfred2 04/05/2007 at 5:24 PM #

That is a very legitmate scenario and I sincerely hope you are right because a 51 year old assistant Head BB coach at NCSU, named Larry Harris, very much needs to be totally innocent of all charges, with the possible exception of the speeding charge maybe. We do not need this fodder, and we especially don’t want this already weak kneed administration to start to tremble and climb back into it’s shell once again.

  11. MrPlywood 04/05/2007 at 5:29 PM #

Just curious – do all the Raleigh police cars have video cameras, and if so, are they used for every stop?

  12. GAWolf 04/05/2007 at 5:35 PM #

The video cameras initiate when the emergency equipment (lights) are activated. There should be a video of this encounter. This cop has a tendency to “tape over” his, though I understand the tape in this incident has been requested already. If destroyed, the tape or lack of a tape I guess can be admitted to the finder of fact under a presumption that it would have been exculpatory (or in a civil case prejudicial to the person having sole control of that evidence) and therefore the destruction of the same can be held against the custodian of it… in this case the RPD.

Redfred… back down man, or I think ultimately you’ll be wishing you had. Let’s just all let this thing play out before anyone goes off making blatant statements about what happened. I wasn’t there, you weren’t there, we all just have various forms of informat… some of us may have better information than the rest of us, but not one of us truly knows what happened last night.

  13. packpigskinfan23 04/05/2007 at 5:41 PM #

I’m really not worried about it… do you guys realize what it takes to be a cop in North Carolina?! a GED, 9 months of community college, and be able to run a mile in 9 mins. I can run a mile in 5 mins 28 seconds. and you know they have to train to get that nine mins?! I have seen people fail based on their running time alone.

    its really sad.

  14. redfred2 04/05/2007 at 5:47 PM #

OK GAWolf, I’ll take your advice. Maybe I did jump a little in my first post, but my second post is a fact.

  15. PackGirl 04/05/2007 at 6:01 PM #

It was smart of Larry to jump on this quickly. Now tonight’s news and tomorrow’s headlines should say “Harris files assault charges against officer who arrested him” instead of “Harris arrested for resisting officer”.

  16. GAWolf 04/05/2007 at 6:05 PM #

It’s hard to call it a “tactical ploy” when it’s the right thing to do, folks.

  17. PackGirl 04/05/2007 at 6:12 PM #

^I’m not sure if you’re referring to my post but I did not see this as a tactical ploy. I see it as a smart action to take (as I stated) for a public figure whose reputation means everything.

  18. Wulfpack 04/05/2007 at 6:53 PM #

Bottom line, no matter what the outcome of Sid Jr. and Larry Harris, damage already done. Just how much damage is the only thing that remains in question. It’s all about damage control now.

  19. CaptainCraptacular 04/05/2007 at 7:11 PM #

    *raliegh cops are jokes anyway*

Regardless of what the real story was, please step back a minute and not start bashing officers en masse. Like it or not, every traffic stop those guys make could be their last. They do put their lives on the line for their job and I’m willing to wager most if not all of them if put into a 9/11 type situation would be among the first to go into the tower to try and save people. You don’t have to love them, but they deserve at least a little respect.

That said, I really think this is being blown totally out of proportion. It will be out of the news faster than you can blink an eye, and really, now that the report has been updated to include that LH has filed a complaint, it doesn’t sound very damaging at all. Personally I don’t feel this is anything to get bent out of shape over, as a fan of the program and even as an alumnus of the school. Not to make light of the situation, but Larry may have even notched some street cred out of whole thing. Yes, Redfred, I agree, he should have just taken his medicine and moved on $80 poorer (thats the going rate for a similar ticket here in FLA. I got one doing 38 in a non-school zone 25 that I didn’t realize was 25). But whats done is done, and honestly I don’t think its going to even register as a blip on the historical radar in less than 2 years.

  20. cpwolfpackfan 04/05/2007 at 7:26 PM #

I just think it is wrong to just “take your medicine” it was wrong. I have seen how profileing works and I bet that is what was going on. I hope not, I hope that we as a nation have grown past such things, but I have seen it first hand and to just say take your medicine is wrong.

    “raliegh cops are jokes anyway”

No no no, the CARY cops are the jokes, RPD’s can be good folks.

A couple of them helped my wife change her tire ON 540 at 6pm!!!

She got a flat in CARY and the cop called her a fucking wrecker!! 50 bucks to change a tire “protect and serve” my irish ass!

  22. WolfPup35 04/05/2007 at 7:52 PM #

I think we’ve gotten off point here. 25th and 19th respectively, that’s a really good sign. It shows that there are some intelligent poeple in the media that know a change for the better when they see it! Like I said in an earlier post–“The point guard will get us back there again”

  23. choppack1 04/05/2007 at 8:24 PM #

CC – I don’t think it’s fair to assume that Coach Harris wasn’t taking his medicine. We don’t know much at all about this case. What I’ve gathered thus far, is favorable to Coach Harris – but that means squat and I’m very biased.

….I spoke with Mike earlier today, and he said there were three schools who would take us,” he said.

    Which three schools?

“N.C. State, Florida State and USC,” Sutton said…..

Uhhh. The “I” there is Dominique Sutton. The “Mike” there is Mike Beasley. That is a quote coming right from the kid.

Anyone have two scholarships lying around? With our glut at PF is there even room for the #1 recruit in the nation? I cant believe it, but my gut says no. You gotta stay loyal to the guys who are loyal to you.

Still, the good news is that we are on Mike Beasley’s radar. Sid is getting it done.

    ^^^
“K-State athletic director Tim Weiser was adamant Thursday that his department does not grant releases so that players may get out of letters of intent or scholarship commitments. So if any of the incoming freshmen chose another school, they’d have to sit out one season unless they receive a release.”

Uncle Jed would let them out of their LOI, maybe “Mr I know basketball” will call AD Weiser and tell him kids should not be made to honor their commitments.
