State to Host Marist

NC State fans will get an opportunity to show their appreciation to their beloved Wolfpack after Marist upset Oklahoma State tonight. This evening’s events create an opportunity for NC State to host Marist on Friday night at 9:30pm (television -ESPNU).

Many fans would like to see State play the game in Reynolds Coliseum – especially those fans that remember the amazing/electric atmosphere’s that accompanied State’s NIT appearances in 1997 and 1998.

But, NC State may have a ‘venue problem’ as the RBC Center is scheduled to host a Josh Groban concert and Reynolds Coliseum is scheduled to host a gymnastics meet at 7pm.

If the gymnastics meet can’t be moved up in the day, then we hope that the meet would be shifted somewhere like Dorton Arena, Peace, Saint Mary’s, Meredith, Broughton, Cardinal Gibbons or some other local facility.

One of the members of our community has shared the following:

The NIT website shows our game as “Marist vs. N.C. State” while all the other confirmed 2nd round matchups are listed as “at” the higher seed.

Our game is listed is being on ESPNU at 9:30, but with another 2nd round game also on ESPNU at 9:00. One of the four games listed is on Saturday at noon, rather than Friday night, so there is some precedent of Saturday games.

If those listings (particularly the Friday night TV listings) are accurate, it might be possible to move the game to Saturday. If it is the sole game on a given network in its timeslot, probably no chance at all for a move.

Presumably, there is no possibility of using RBC at any point Sat-Mon, due to the NCAA women’s tournament.

My link is not working. You will need to copy the whole thing and paste in your browser or got to gopack.com and click on “Fan Guides” on the left hand side under the “Follow the Wolfpack” heading.

For that matter why can’t the gymnastics use Dorton.
BTW, I was in Reynolds last Saturday for the 3A state championship and the seating layout is different than it was “back in the day” just in case you haven’t been there recently. The endzone and sideline seating is much less.
Oh and yes, Concord HS did win the 3A boys basketball championship, following up their 3A Football championship at C-F in December.

^Primacy, I’m talking about the earlier “Fan Guide” link there.

I really want to get the old crew together and pitch a tent outside my favorite Reynold’s box office window.

Just got through to the ticket office after a long wait using the number listed in the “current” fan guide discussed above. They have no info yet and couldn’t take my order. “Wait until it appears on Gopack and order them online” was the only thing they could tell me.

“I remember when people wanted to expand Reynolds instead of building a new place, some said to play at the Dean Dome during construction.”

I still want to expand Reynolds and dump the RBC. You could of played many of the non-conference games at Dorton Arena and played some games in G’boro for a couple of years. The Canes did that for 2 or 3 season there is no reason the pack fans couldn’t of made the hour drive.

Now State can expand Reynolds and the Pack can play at the RBC while the work is being done. The money could be raised unless the university has anymore plans to build 20 million dollar clubs for a couple hundred alumni and staff.

Oh, in addition to over half the seats being gone in the end zones the “Noise Meter” was gone as were all the men’s banners as well (well heck it’s the home of the wolfpack women).
It would be nice to at least out up the NC banners and the Noise Metter for the game.

  15. tcthdi-tgsf-twhwtnc 03/14/2007 at 11:50 AM #

Does anyone know if the noise meter was an actual noise meter? I remember hearing years ago that it was manually controlled.

The schedule for gymnastics says 4 PM but maybe that is in some other place.

game at Reynolds Friday night, very nice

  20. PackGirl 03/14/2007 at 12:14 PM #

This is too good to be true. We win our game against Drexel (who we all know was NCAAT calibre 😉 then Marist (whoever that is – Niles Crane’s ex-wife?) beats OK St, giving us the right to host. THEN, the RBC center is booked so we wind up in Reynolds. I think Coach V has had a hand in this.

  21. Jeremy Hyatt 03/14/2007 at 12:16 PM #

tell you what Reynolds is not a bad fall-back. forget about Cameron and Kseyville….this is the real home-court adv.

  22. Mike 03/14/2007 at 12:22 PM #

tcthdi, you are correct. I have seen the building virtually empty and the meter pinging the red light. But it is fun anyway – all in good spirits. At least we dont bring in pre-recorded crowd noise like someone else.

  23. McPete 03/14/2007 at 12:27 PM #

That darned Lee Fowler! Can’t I still blame something on him today? Anything?

  24. noah 03/14/2007 at 12:36 PM #

The noise meter was manually controlled.

Also, expanding Reynolds is not physically possibly. You’d have to tear the thing completely down and start from scratch. Also, while you’re at it, you’d have to rip up a lot of the grounds AROUND Reynolds to build the infrastructure necessary to handle stuff for TV.

NC State lost money whenever television broadcast our games from Reynolds. We had to pay a ridiculous amount of money to get the fiber-optics in place for the TV crews.

Then there’s the horrible parking and access to the limited parking spaces.

On campus arenas and stadiums suck ass for everyone who isn’t a student at the university.

WPC phone ringing off the hook busy. No email on early tickets yet. The GoPack website is the worst I’ve ever tried to navigate. Signing in is like a maze. That freaking poor website should be a target for improvement.
