State to Host Marist

NC State fans will get an opportunity to show their appreciation to their beloved Wolfpack after Marist upset Oklahoma State tonight. This evening’s events create an opportunity for NC State to host Marist on Friday night at 9:30pm (television -ESPNU).

Many fans would like to see State play the game in Reynolds Coliseum – especially those fans that remember the amazing/electric atmosphere’s that accompanied State’s NIT appearances in 1997 and 1998.

But, NC State may have a ‘venue problem’ as the RBC Center is scheduled to host a Josh Groban concert and Reynolds Coliseum is scheduled to host a gymnastics meet at 7pm.

If the gymnastics meet can’t be moved up in the day, then we hope that the meet would be shifted somewhere like Dorton Arena, Peace, Saint Mary’s, Meredith, Broughton, Cardinal Gibbons or some other local facility.

One of the members of our community has shared the following:

The NIT website shows our game as “Marist vs. N.C. State” while all the other confirmed 2nd round matchups are listed as “at” the higher seed.

Our game is listed is being on ESPNU at 9:30, but with another 2nd round game also on ESPNU at 9:00. One of the four games listed is on Saturday at noon, rather than Friday night, so there is some precedent of Saturday games.

If those listings (particularly the Friday night TV listings) are accurate, it might be possible to move the game to Saturday. If it is the sole game on a given network in its timeslot, probably no chance at all for a move.

Presumably, there is no possibility of using RBC at any point Sat-Mon, due to the NCAA women’s tournament.

I posted these on the other thread last night:
    1) No freakin way! EVERYONE, see this pic and caption! I don’t do much, but I want credit for this one. what are the odds?

    2) About scheduling, I think the NIT has built-in flexibility to change days for a given game. So it’s conceivable that the game could be moved to Saturday or even Monday.

The gymnastics article linked in the post is for the March 9th meet. Looking at their schedule, this Friday against Pitt is in fact their senior night. I kinda doubt we’d have the gall to boot them out of Reynolds on Senior Night….

Regarding playing at the Dean Dome, it just doesn’t seem right. It wouldn’t be like the Yanks playing in Shea, it’d be like the Yanks playing in Fenway. I think the universe might implode.

Alright now beowulf, about time for another apperarance from Leslie and Priscilla.

Like Lowe’s red blazer, that’s only for special occasions.

I havent read all posts… so I dont know if this has been discussed at any length, but if we cant play on Sat instead- the is there any reason why we shouldnt be able to play at Dorton?

  5. joe 03/14/2007 at 8:51 AM #

Dorton is booked all weekend. Reynolds is OK for Sat, but that might mean no TV.

Maybe Fowler has already talked to Prince Tasell Loafer about the Dean Dome. 🙂

Engin is the man. I hope he stays in touch with the program after he leaves for pro ball in Europe.

It’s hard to picture the Pack hosting a game in the baby blue building. You think they’d mind if we painted? I’ll help!

The UNC people would NOT trash our cars, and our people would not act like the 50% of the Greenville idiots that trashed the place. We would get stares with all the red on Franklin Street, but in all honesty, most of my Hole friends and co-workers have been very gracious about Lowe and our ACCT performance. I wouldn’t foresee any problems whatsoever.

I never minded venturing over to Franklin Street to rob Chapel Hill of its women…

I can forsee a FEW altercations… but not many. we would really be better off going to Durham I think though.

I swear if fucking Lee Fowler gives away our chance at a home game…

    anyone know a hit-man?!

There’s also semi-precedent – we pretty much overran the town during Amato’s first season, and again during the really bad year under Doherty. No incidents that I’m aware of, and I’m CERTAIN the media would have been more than happy to highlight any.

THey didn’t give up. Everybody was already making excuses for them, whining, griping, but not these kids. They didn’t give up.

    I love it.

I guess I really just dont want to hear about how “great and classy Carolina is for allowing NC State to use their stadium is a time of desperate need”

I can hear it now… and I am already sick.

  14. joe 03/14/2007 at 9:02 AM #

If I was betting, I would be on gymnastics being pushed to Sat. NCSU would probably have to pay the teams the extra money to stay longer and rebook flights (for Arizona)

    I meant to say clASSy!!!

  16. branjawn 03/14/2007 at 9:14 AM #

I still like my idea of St Augs

  17. Mr O 03/14/2007 at 9:17 AM #

I don’t see why this should take to figure out. Should have been a plan in place a while ago with the high possiblity of making the NIT.

  18. Girlfriend in a Coma 03/14/2007 at 9:22 AM #

    This is not difficult.

Either move the basketball to Saturday or move the gymnastics to the Dean Dome.

If something is getting moved to the Dean Dome, obviously it would be the gymnastics.

  19. packpigskinfan23 03/14/2007 at 9:24 AM #

the way all of this has come about the past week, and the total lack of NIT info out there, it would be damn near impossible to even think this could happen….

  20. packpigskinfan23 03/14/2007 at 9:26 AM #

a sat. noonish game would be perfect…. but I somehow doubt Lee Fowler is gonna give up a TV slot….

  21. joe 03/14/2007 at 9:26 AM #

They probably figured Reynolds could be used when the RBC was booked and did not remember Gymnastics needing Reynolds.

  22. branjawn 03/14/2007 at 9:29 AM #

If NCSU athletics was run like a business, Fowler would be removed. Period.

  23. packpigskinfan23 03/14/2007 at 9:29 AM #

they probably STILL dont know there is a problem….. I wonder why nothing has been said. or has it, and I just dont know?

  24. redfred2 03/14/2007 at 9:29 AM #

I think they were busy scheduling, and rescheduling, return trips home from Tampa all weekend.

But seriously though, thinking this far ahead about anything, isn’t that expecting a little much from Jed and the crew?

  25. GAWolf 03/14/2007 at 9:32 AM #

Someone mentioned the Marist game. We watched it last night… they did all the could to let OSU back in the game. They jacked up shots with reckless abandon right to the bitter end. They have zero concept of working the clock… zero.

Speaking of the jacket… this morning on Sportscenter there was mention that MJ was wearing “Sidney Lowe’s jacket”. I believe it might have been Stu Scott. Free press is nice… especially when they’re talking about an NBA team and Michael Jordan.
