Official “Hell, Yes!” Thread (NC State 79, UVA 71)

Words can’t describe the elation. It was almost like the complete inverse of the Wisconsin Sweet Sixteen collapse. The team is confident, and played that way. And NC State is two wins away from its first ACCT title in 20 years. Here’s what I said Thursday morning:

My gut says that the Pack upsets UVA if it can get past Duke.

Here’s a few more random thoughts on the biggest win of Sidney Lowe’s young coaching career:

– Sidney Lowe said “We can’t come out and just jack up 3s. That’s not who we are.” I almost wept with joy.

– Lowe correctly said that Brian Nieman made the biggest plays of the night. He sure as hell did. The charge he took with a slender 68-66 lead completely changed the game. Raycom had already put 2 points on the board for Virginia, and the announcers said the Cavs would be shooting for the lead. As Lee Corso would say – “Not so fast!”

– In between ridiculously stupid plays, Grant scored 9 points in a row for us, including a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line. He stepped it up big time, though he still induced several heart attacks in Wolfpack Nation.

– We have now won 2 straight games against legitimate opponents, despite getting squat from Fells offensively. We didn’t do that once in the regular season. What happens if he gets hot?

– NC State is 5-2 against the other 4 teams still in the tournament. Craziness.

– NC State is 4-0 against possible semifinal opponents.

– Every 10 years, we are apparently pure magic in the ACCT.

– This is probably the best ACCT in league history, so far. Too bad so few are in the stands to see it (Note to ACC foofs – never south of Atlanta, never north of DC).

– I want Wake to lose. I could definitely see the NIT committee still viewing our semifinal as a virtual “play-in” game. Plus, VT could beat UNC in the final if we stumble tomorrow. Wake can’t.

– What did you do to change our mojo at the half? I changed every article of clothing, put a hat on (backwards), changed couches, and turned off the fireplace. Only have 1 HDTV, so couldn’t change that. Plus, I badmouthed Gavin until he started making me look like an uninformed jackass (not hard to do, I know)…

    The cardiac pack is back.

Sidney Lowe said “We can’t come out and just jack up 3s. That’s not who we are.”

This is why we were losing at halftime. I was so pissed that Costner was afraid to go inside again after getting rejected once. I am so glad Sidney made those halftime adjustments. Plus how awesome is Nieman. I have been a Nieman fan all season long!!!

I have never had an “alias” in Pack internet world. If I ever acquired one, it would be “Brian Nieman Fan Club.”

I took off the shirt I was wearing at halftime and went and got the sweatshirt I was wearing at the Michigan and UNC games!

  5. PapaJohn 03/09/2007 at 10:03 PM #

I have given up wearing any of my Pack gear. Must be the new boss in town. I’ve got to buy all new stuff. And a red sports coat!

What’s that saying about peaking…when it counts…at the end of the year…or at the right time…at tourney time…or something like that?

Boy, what a game. What did Sidney do at the half, more importantly. I thought “The Jacket” had run it’s course. Evidentally not. GO PACK!!!

  8. Spin Wolf 03/09/2007 at 10:07 PM #

What stuck with me is that this team doesn’t get rattled. They refuse to panic. (unlike teams coached by those who shall not be named)

And how cold blooded is Costner????

  9. PapaJohn 03/09/2007 at 10:08 PM #

I still don’t go into the games confident, but I have a lot more hope than in quite a while. It’s sort of a “I know we CAN win, but not sure if we WILL win.”
It’ll really be nice in the future to EXPECT to win most of the time.

The best part of all of the good things happening is Engin is going out on a high note. He has more than earned it. A quality young man.

This was pretty much the best thing ever.

Am I the only girl on here?

Anyway…I, too, hope we face VT. Wake IS fake!

Had to wake the baby up at halftime! Or did she wake up from my wailing & nashing of teeth in the final 6 minutes of the 1st Half?

    Doesn’t matter….baby awake….Pack wins!

Most fun I’ve had in March in awhile!

I put the same clothes that I had on last night(that didn’t get washed) including a raggedy ass NC State T Shirt(with the Bell Tower) that is now my good luck charm. It won’t get washed until this is all over and if we win something big, then I’m going to frame the thing!

Pistol Pete made me very superstitious about BB games. I may not even change my drawers tomorrow!

  13. VladsCross 03/09/2007 at 10:12 PM #

I too bad mouthed Grant the entire game. I’m mighty thankful when he does do something positive, but to me he is the living reincarnation of Ishua Benjamin. A uncontrollable turnover waiting to happen. I know I spelled Benjamins name wrong…

Nevertheless, Sid and the gang are proving what the Herb haters knew all along!

  14. the_phisherman 03/09/2007 at 10:12 PM #

Highstick, did you change anything at halftime or did you just run with last nights clothes?

  15. highstick 03/09/2007 at 10:14 PM #

Grant gave me fits and my wife kept bashing me for bashing him.

  16. VladsCross 03/09/2007 at 10:15 PM #

Same here highstick. I was gettin’ ragged for giving the man a hard time but some of those decisions he makes with the ball……..Ok forget all that. I don’t want to mess with the mojo we got cookin’

  17. Spin Wolf 03/09/2007 at 10:15 PM #

My wife said it best – “Gavin is the TA of basketball.”

Amen to that. You’re either praising him or cussing him.

  18. grizzlyman 03/09/2007 at 10:15 PM #

I made my dog sit in my lap. Then made her get down with 3 min to go. The rest our bracket needs to look out for The Pack as long as me and Sparky are teaming up to change momentum.

  19. redfred2 03/09/2007 at 10:16 PM #

“Am I the only girl on here?”

I don’t think so, wasn’t primacy on here earlier?

  20. VladsCross 03/09/2007 at 10:17 PM #

So Grizz, you’re saying doggystyle is the way to make it happen….

  21. the_phisherman 03/09/2007 at 10:17 PM #

grizzlyman, my dog was sitting on my lap until I got up and screamed at the refs for not calling a foul on one of Costner’s possessions inside. He was so scared he got the hiccups and hid under the dining room table.

  22. grizzlyman 03/09/2007 at 10:18 PM #

    Wolfstyle my friend, Wolfstyle.
My little pup was shaking from how nervous I was.

  23. VladsCross 03/09/2007 at 10:19 PM #

I’ll just bet he was shakin’….ok ok…Wolfstyle it is!

I’m so tickled I could just shit

I was irate wiht GG but he played an incredible defensive game. He was on Reynolds in teh first half, he did not score. He was on Singletary in the second half, he did not score.
Sid did a good job of playing more players in the first half to keep us fresh. Very smart.

What I am worried about is Atsur. He was limping pretty heavily after that driving layup. I hope he did not tweek his hammy.

    Great game.

  25. the_phisherman 03/09/2007 at 10:20 PM #

Atsur was also getting stretched out during timeouts last night. I think he’s going to be fine
