Lowe: ‘I love NC State’

In recent weeks some ‘rumblings’ regarding regarding some NBA teams’ interest in Sidney Lowe have been ruminating in some circles around the NC State Basketball program.

SFN has no information on the topic. Regardless, we thought that the following quote from today’s N&O was worth highlighting.

“I’m happy at N.C. State. I can’t think about that stuff. Certainly some [NBA] people out there may inquire, but I’m not going anywhere. I love N.C. State.”

Let’s not forget his assistant coaches. While Lowe will get the credit, you can’t overlook the experience beside him. They played a major part in this season’s success.

I concur Delete-Me. Not only for in-game adjustments, but also pregame strategy and on the recruiting trail. I would think few college programs can boast 3 coaches with D-1 Head Coaching experience, along with the vast experience of Larry Harris.

How long do you think it will take for other teams to go after our assistant coaches? It seems inevitable…

So great to read what we already knew, Sid loves State and is here for a long time.

We will also need show him the love with our $$$. If things go as we all expect and Sid puts the Pack back on top then we need to show him major love with our checkbook. Yes, we can never compete with NBA dollars but we need keep Sid well compensated with respect to his peers.

FYI, mcroberts is headed to the nba, its on cbs sportsline now.

Sid has been remarkable to this point. But like they mentioned the assistants have been huge just in teaching sid the other nuances about the college game. Its obvious what kind of recruiting he can be with his personality but the other guys on that bench are responsible for teaching him those aspects like recruiting and dealing with the kids getting to class, etc. that he’s never been involved in (well maybe as a recruit host when he was a player)

I agree with goldenchain. Hell, look at previous management, modest success in the college game can equate to a ten year career, whereas in the NBA the likelihood is 4-5 jobs in that ten year span. Why move your family all over the place for any amount of money, and little real job satisfaction. I realize the money is far greater, but what NBA team will show the type of love and dedication his players showed this year? What NBA fanbase will wait for the team bus to express gratitiude after a loss? There is more to life than money, and Sid knows this from his experiences in the NBA. Plus he has a measure of control over the program he never would have in the NBA. Players have to buy in, and they have to come thru free agency under a salary cap, or be there to get drafted. At State, Sid has a better than average chance of landing the players he wants.

Sid will have an opportunity to coach in the NBA. That’s a fact. He’s going to do well here, and his name will come up repeatedly as an option for open positions. I can remember Valvano’s name coming up for openings almost every summer after the ’83 championship. It drove us crazy! If the rumors can be believed, he was seriously involved with UCLA one summer.
So if Sid’s dream is to coach in the NBA again, he’ll do it and there’s not a thing we can do about it. IMO there are no concerns about going to another school, just the pros. We can’t out pay the pros, so there’s no defense if that’s what he wants.
But I think this is Sid’s dream. He’s living it. How could it be scripted any better? He proves his committment to the job by working to finalize his degree. He hires a dream team of assistant coaches – from a Wolfpacker’s perspective. Who would have imagined he could get Monte? He wins over the team and the fans in his first press conference. He takes over a team expected to be terrible, and exceeds all expectations, proving he can coach. He has too little time to recruit, but still pulls in what will likely be a more than respectable recruiting class. And his coaching peers have already shown respect and admiration.
Somebody get a camera, this is a movie waiting to be made! The only thing it’s missing is a banner.
As has been suggested, unless someone in the administration runs him off, I think he’s here to stay. And with a couple of years under his belt, I’m guessing he’ll be so firmly entrenched that he’ll be more likely to be the one running someone off.

I hate it, I had a red hopsack blazer from the ’80’s that I kept for special occasions. About two years ago I gave it up and now some homeless guy is wearing it!
The store in Hickory that used to sell them (Zerden’s, big Wolfpacker) is gone now.

Glad to hear that Grant and Costner will be back as well. Everything is in place for a great season : )

If he does end up staying here, the more whispers of NBA HC positions will only bolsters his status among the elite prospects of the land. We will get more looks from more elite players then we have since the V days. I love the skills and attitude coach Lowe brings to the table, I am believe any team he hits the floor with stands a fighting chance against all comers. I just beleive that a few classes of elite players are all that stands in the way now.

I can’t belive Monte would leave again. Don’t know about Harris or Strickland. Maybe Harris will settle down in Raleigh, until his kids are grown, like Amato did at FSU. I’m guessing Harris came back to Raleigh because his family didn’t want to move (but I could be wrong).

If someone goes, I’m betting it’s Strickland. But maybe he’s thinking of settling down for his family, as well.

I wonder if someone goes, would Levi Watkins get promoted to Asst. Coach? He’s with the basketball program because he wanted to get into coaching.

The newspaper article was very good today. I love how confident Costner sounds and how Grant and Costner seem 100% sure that they are staying along with Lowe.

The best bet is Harris would leave after his sons finishes up. His son’s stated goals is to be ahead coach someday, but first he would like to learn under his father. I see his transfering to State as a chance to learn a lot about the game from Coach Lowe and take an assistant’s position under his father when he decides to be a HC somewhere.
