Drexel Game Thread (Last of the Season?)

Is this the way the season ends? Not with a bang (like the ACCT run), but a whimper (an injured, mentally and physically exhausted Pack squad playing out the string in front of a handful of fans)? Sadly, it seems likely, as this previous post explained. To clarify, I sure as hell hope we win, and will even make the trek to a sports bar in about an hour to watch on ESPN-Unavailable. But I won’t fault the staff or these kids in the slightest if we lose – even if we lose by 40.

Anyway, your in-game comments belong here. Let’s ride it out together!

8:12 update: I hate to say I told you so, but…

Halftime update: Really proud of the guys for hanging in and grinding it out. Drexel never met a shot they didn’t like, that’s for sure.

Damned near midnight update: Being wrong never felt so right! What incredible character. Go Marist!

Good stuff after the 15 – 4 start. If we score first in the second half, we win going away. If not I still think we win.

The only good thing I have to say about Comcast up here in Virginia is that ESPNUnavailable is available. Of course, you have to get the digital upgraded package, but its a small price (or not so small) to pay in order to watch an additional 5-8 games a year…football and basketball.

Considering our scouting report of Drexel probably came from the first five minutes of the game I’d say we’re doing pretty well. Down two at the half we’ve got them right where we want them. They might have thought it was going to be easy when they got off to their quick start, but once the guys woke up (or fell back into their basketball dream) we caught up and looked like the better team.

Elegar looks good. Mejia can shoot from 3. Other than that no one looked like a serious threat. They’ve heaved quite a few toward the hoop that had no prayer. Keep flinging ’em, Dragons.

Kept our poise nicely. If we were shooting a bit better we’d have a comfortable lead.

Oh, and I haven’t noticed Atsur limp at all. Looks pretty solid, though not at top speed.

  6. Red_Terrors 03/13/2007 at 8:14 PM #

At the beginning of the game Atsur didn’t look real quick, but after about 5 min, he got going. Doesn’t look like the leg is bothering him too much.

    enough about Sid, what is Justin Gainey wearing? ; }

LOL at all the doubters early in the thread. And at BJD95 (“playing out the string”).

Does Mejia look like he can really play? I don’t have ESPNU so I can’t tell listening on the radio.

It wasn’t a particularly physical 1st half and no one is in foul trouble. Lowe made a nice switch to zone when Elegar scored 3 buckets down low. Pack gets the ball to start now.

I was going to follow the game on gopack live stats, but guess what, no mention of it there.

  12. Red_Terrors 03/13/2007 at 8:19 PM #

Mejia has had some uncontested 3’s. We just missed another easy layup and they hit on the other end. 30 – 26

  13. Red_Terrors 03/13/2007 at 8:20 PM #

Costner hits 1 of 2 from the free throw line

  14. WolfPup35 03/13/2007 at 8:20 PM #

What’s up with the gopack live stats anyway?

Tau837, “all the doubters” was like 2 people right? I wasn’t one of them, but you shouldn’t talk trash to fellow Pack fans. Especially since you weren’t here until now.

  16. Red_Terrors 03/13/2007 at 8:21 PM #

Good move by Gavin Grant to use his size posting up. And Elegar travels on their end.

  17. Tau837 03/13/2007 at 8:22 PM #

By the way, Costner and Grant haven’t even heated up yet. 7 combined points at half. Fells and McCauley are playing well offensively. I’m optimistic.

Can we PLEASE get tie or get the lead fellas….pretty please

  19. Red_Terrors 03/13/2007 at 8:22 PM #

The announcers seem to think Atsur is in pain, but he isn’t showing it.

  20. Red_Terrors 03/13/2007 at 8:23 PM #

Dammit Elegar. He is flat out using McCauley.

  21. Red_Terrors 03/13/2007 at 8:23 PM #

    Atsur for 3!!!

  22. Red_Terrors 03/13/2007 at 8:24 PM #

Steal by McCauley, then we turn it over and foul them. Dang…that was an opportunity there.

  23. Jeremy Hyatt 03/13/2007 at 8:24 PM #
