Championship Post-Game

Where the winds of Dixie softly blow o’er the fields of Caroline,

There stands ever cherished, N.C. State, as thy honored shrine

So lift your voices! Loudly sing from hill to oceanside!

Our hearts ever hold you, N.C. State in the folds of our love and pride.

Great game, great tourny all around. One to remember. Very proud of this team.

    Can I shave now?

  2. Rick 03/11/2007 at 2:52 PM #

I am so proud of our guys.
I hate moral victories. Hate them.
A few more plays and we could have had it. It took everything UNC had and more to beat us.

BTW did anyone else hate the way Raycom used their cameras? Hard game to watch

  3. john of sparta 03/11/2007 at 2:55 PM #

free throws. foul shots. bonus. and one.
    that was the difference.

  4. Rick 03/11/2007 at 2:58 PM #

It is hard to believe UNC wins the free throw battle (sarcasm intended).

  5. Spin Wolf 03/11/2007 at 2:59 PM #

I thought we lost the game when the Holes didn’t score for two straight possessions, but we couldn’t convert on the other end. I knew they weren’t going to miss on a third.

The State fans mantra – WTNY 🙁

Great ride…wish we coud have brought it home.

  7. Astral Rain 03/11/2007 at 3:06 PM #

If UNC hadn’t played as over their heads as we did ours, We’re in the dance. Yes, UNC played beyond their abilities today. They needed to. If you’re going to lose, that is the best way to lose- going down swinging versus a team that needed to fight. I think UNC will do well in the tourney now- they actually showed toughness today.

Also, hitting all those foul shots- if they hit 75% of their shots instead of 95%, State wins.

  8. beowolf 03/11/2007 at 3:11 PM #

We gave them much more than I would have even thought to ask from a team on its fourth straight day. I can’t express how proud I am of them.

I’m just SICK AND TIRED of having to be proud and have nothing to celebrate. This might have been a different game if Florida State and Boston freaking College could have showed up and given them games too. Sometimes I wonder what it must feel like to float on a pink puffy cloud and have everything fall in your lap the way it does for them. Good grief, they’d fall into conniptions like that guy in “A Clockwork Orange”* if they had to face half the stuff we faced. Just one 8-win season under Doherty and they made it sound like the man was a dangerous psychotic on the loose; if they’d had two, you’d have thought he was a child-raping al Qaeda convert working for Jim Black.

An Incredible basketball game. Hard fought by both teams. Both teams, programs, and partisans should be proud.

NC State Basketball is certainly BACK (Damn that “Jed” Fowler!)

Costner SHOULD be MVP … (haven’t heard as of 4 PM.)

Sidney Lowe is a First-Class Gentleman.

Raycom is the absolute worst. Chimps in suits could have created a better telecast. Who called the game for ESPN, Dickie V and Shuman?

  11. wayofthemaster 03/11/2007 at 3:19 PM #

I’m looking forward to the day when we don’t have to revel in moral victories.

    Next year?

The following year if Hickson and Costner stay?

  12. highstick 03/11/2007 at 3:20 PM #

Wrong, Beowulf, Jim Black assigned this guy to Mike Easley last week! LOL!

I know we didn’t win a title, a trophy, or any thing else tangible, but we won back what we had lost for many years and it’s called RESPECT.

I also know how it’s easy to say good things to your opponent when you just beat them, but I’ve gotten several emails from some of my Tarhole friends(if there is such a thing) and they all have been converted to believe in Sidney Lowe and have found a forgotten respect for our Wolfpack team and Nation!

  13. VladsCross 03/11/2007 at 3:20 PM #

Would somebody please tell me how Costner scores an ACC record amount of points in the tournament and doesn’t get MVP? Ohh how I despise anything in powder blue!

  14. SaccoV 03/11/2007 at 3:20 PM #

Yes, Brant and Gminski should be calling horse racing or maybe something on the food network.

    Agreed.
Being a State fan is hard. Being a UNC fan is very easy.

While it hurts to lose…our guys played with ridiculous heart. I look at it like this, we were picked dead last and made it to the ACC Championship game. If this is as bad as it gets (picked 12th), I can’t imagine how good this team will be two-three years down the road. GO STATE!

  17. Rick 03/11/2007 at 3:22 PM #

“Costner SHOULD be MVP … (haven’t heard as of 4 PM.)”

Who do you think they gave it to.
Brandan Wright. I am sure his points per minute average (or some other made up stat) was the highest in tournament history.

  18. GAWolf 03/11/2007 at 3:23 PM #

I’m proud, and I’m convinced the celebration is coming…. and it’s likely to come a lot earlier than any of us anticipated.

  19. wolfonthehill 03/11/2007 at 3:23 PM #

    1) Brandon got shafted.
    2) Agree with Beo that I’m sick of being told that our guys should be proud for coming soooo close. I want a title.

  20. VladsCross 03/11/2007 at 3:24 PM #

yes, they gave it to Wright. John Swafford should be taken to hillsboro street and supremely corn holed! What a fraud

  21. VladsCross 03/11/2007 at 3:25 PM #

Wait a minute, I take the Hillsboro street thing back. We don’t do that in Raleigh. That’s a Chapel Hill and Carboro thing.

  22. chris92heel 03/11/2007 at 3:27 PM #

The entire state starting lineup made either the first or second all-tourney teams. I can’t remember that ever happening before.

Brandan had 57 pts in 3 games. And no, he didn’t deserve the MVP. He wasn’t even UNC’s mvp – that was clearly Lawson, but sportswriters are idiots.

  23. highstick 03/11/2007 at 3:28 PM #

Think there’s a possibility they picked the wrong “Brandon/Branden”???

  24. SaccoV 03/11/2007 at 3:28 PM #

Costner’s performance was outstanding. The entire weekend was special. Not as special as we wanted, but special nonetheless. I just hope that Swafford loses that ocmmissioner’s spot or Fowler gets the boot soon. Unfortunately for us, with great hires in football and basketball, we stuck. But at least we’re now happily stuck.

  25. MikeS1986 03/11/2007 at 3:28 PM #

Agree 100% with foz. Twas indeed a great tourney — and this Wolfpack ride was something to behold. Not quite enough magic — but a pretty good start for El Sid. Just wish the ’83 magic was back….

Yes gang, “Wait til Next Year” is our mantra. It is nice though actually to have some hope about next year. Besides, I’ve got a feeling there’s more left this season.

Finally, in reply to Astral Rain, I certainly hope that the comment about UNC doing well in the tourney does not mean that Astral hopes they in fact do so. Although there may have been some argument on this point, as a 20-year alum, I can say categorically that real State fans don’t root for Carolina. You can root for Wake, Virginia or Clemson. You can even root for VaTech or BC. Hell, root for Duke if you absolutely have to. But real State fans do not root for Carolina. Ever.

Looking forward to a great NCAAT — it was a great ACCT. Not great enough, but great.
