AP: Lowe thanks Wolfpack officals, fans for support

RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina State basketball coach Sidney Lowe thanked Wolfpack officials and fans for their understanding Wednesday after his son was charged with crimes ranging from armed robbery to drug possession.

“This is a difficult time for my son, myself and my family,” Lowe said in a statement issued by the school. “We appreciate the support and understanding of the Wolfpack family.”

“We understand what a difficult time this must be for the Lowe family,” N.C. State athletic director Lee Fowler said. “I have spoken with Sidney and assured him that we support our coach and will do what we can for him and his family as they deal with this situation.”

I think we as a university and as a fan base should support him fully.

i am fully behind Sidney. being 25, i have caused some problems for my family and made some stupid mistakes(not quite of this degree), but the one thing i could always count on was that my family would be there for me. through thick and thin… and Sid is like extended family to me, and should be to every other wolfpacker out there. the support is and should be there for him al the way through this ordeal. props to Fowlup for publicly stating that NC State is behind him as am i as a fan. it appears everyone is behind this man and his biological family and wish them the best.

My prayers go to all touched by these events.

    we’re behind you Coach Lowe!!!

This is a serious topic, but I can’t ignore the humor of someone with the screen name ButtPacker claiming to be “behind” someone.

Let me get this straight. “possession of between half an ounce and 1.5 ounces of marijuana” equals “possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana”??

Just reading the charges, it sounds like he *might* have. Gone to someone’s house with 6 people in it. Hit one of them over the head with a bottle (the “arm”?). And had a gun and an ounce of pot in his house.

The charges always sound worse than the actual events.

MW – You bring up a fair point…We don’t know what happened that night.

This is a sad story…All we can do is treat Lowe, Inc as we would if this happened to someone in our own family.

I think all of us feel for Coach Lowe right now…This is not a happy time for him or his family.

Let me get this straight. “possession of between half an ounce and 1.5 ounces of marijuana” equals “possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana”??

After a certain amount they no longer consider it for personal use and label it as intent to sell. I’m sure some other more “informed” posters can tell us the actual amounts.

    ^ anything above 1/2 ounce

  10. Rick 03/28/2007 at 2:43 PM #

    Is that alot?
It does not sound like much but I have no idea.

so; is this ‘public comment’ a sign of a new PR philosophy at NCSU? or does this just come down to Sid being a good guy and knowing the right thing to do?

  12. thebigwood 03/28/2007 at 2:51 PM #

Rick, that is not a lot

  13. PackBacker001 03/28/2007 at 2:54 PM #

^ agreed. That’s pretty much the amount at which you start looking for more.

  14. McPete 03/28/2007 at 2:56 PM #

Rick, that’s not much at all.

    Regards,

You’re talking about dried leaves. 1.5 oz of pot is a goodly bit. Dime (1/10th of an oz) and quarter (1/4 of an oz) bags are much more common purchase units.

If you want to try and visualize it…three fingers deep in a glad bag is about 1/4. So, you’re probably talking about an oz per bag. I’ve only seen a pound of pot in police evidence lockers. A pound is usually shrink-wrapped and is about the size of a pillow you’d have on a couch. This is, of course, off the stalk and having already been dried.

I’m sure there are people who are more affluent pot smokers who purchase in larger amounts in order to limit their exposure. Cops always charge you with the maximum and then you can wheel and deal your way backwards. 1.5 oz…you might be able to say that it was for your own personal use. Plead guilty to simple possession.

Usually, police reports will talk about a guy getting stopped and he’ll have a .9 mm, $1000 in cash and the 1.5 oz and they’ll know they have a dealer.

I don’t know NC law, but I think usually the big sentencing guidelines for intent-to-sell start at 2 oz. And there, you’re talking about the difference in maybe a year and…like 15 years.

This is, I believe, his second offense? That’s not going to help things either.

^hah…I was just looking at some of the posts after the ESPN article, and some people are saying that Lowe should resign. This NEVER crossed my mind…yeah it sucks, but does this really have any bearing on NCSU’s bball program?

a 1/2 ounce is eqaul to 4 eighths or 2 quarters. for those mountaineers out there who have some experience.

and eighth is 3.5 grams, and no it is not that much… an eighth will produce about 1 hefty blunt…. or about 7 or 8 of those things that matt simms was rolling

my white owls are burnin kinda slow… hootie hoo

  18. noah 03/28/2007 at 3:00 PM #

Good Lord, who are you? Peter Tosh? Who smokes an 1/8th of an oz of pot at one sitting??

Jeez…those could be props for the next Cheech and Chong movie.

  19. thebigwood 03/28/2007 at 3:01 PM #

noah, my ‘hah’ wasn’t for you…it was for McPete

  20. packbackr04 03/28/2007 at 3:04 PM #

haha, and when youre talkin dimes youre usually talking swag. if you are smokin kind bud, usually an eighth is the smallest increment you can buy from a dealer. just an appalachian alum, with copius amounts of experience from the “high” country.

  21. TNCSU 03/28/2007 at 3:06 PM #

    Noah,
You’ve been a wealth of knowledge with this one. Keep up the good work! I didn’t have any idea about alot of this stuff.

  22. noah 03/28/2007 at 3:09 PM #

For those who have seen the movie, “Reservoir Dogs,” think of Tim Roth’s fake story about walking into the bathroom at Union Station in LA with a couple of pounds of pot in his bag and finding two drug-sniffing German Shepherds hanging out in there with their human counterparts. Part of his story was being annoyed at penny-ante hippies asking for dime bags when all of his stuff was broken up into quarters.

So yes, generally, the larger the amount, the more likely its higher quality.

  23. lush 03/28/2007 at 3:21 PM #

    packbacker04

you know damn well you can get a 1/16th

  24. lush 03/28/2007 at 3:24 PM #

    noah,

the highest quality does not come in shrink wrapped freezer bags, it comes from the cool older hippie dude down the street where he’s got 50 plants in his secret basement

I wonder what other topics would cause discussion about prayer and buying weed in the same thread??
