ACC Championship Game Entry (Halftime Update)

Sidney Lowe’s debut season as the Wolfpack has been a resounding success and has all of StateFansNation dreaming about the future. But, before we get to the future, let’s pray for a miracle today.

A lot of the media and younger Wolfpackers keep referring to the 1983 run to the title. I guess that is understandable, especially with the presence of Sidney Lowe. But, I liken this run more to the 1987 run than the 1983 run.

The 1987 Wolfpack team was lower seeded than the 1983 team. Additionally, the ’87 team had to play a Tarheel team in the ACC Finals that was much more of a juggernaut than today’s Tarheel opponent. If NC State could pull the upset in 1987, then nothing is impossible today.

The Wolfpack is playing with house money today. Nothing much left to say.

Go get em…

Haltime Comments

* 7 ties

* 10 lead changes

* State’s biggest lead was 6 points at 18-12

* The game was played at a very high level. Very impressive.

* The Heels started gaining traction at the exact time that the refs swallowed their whistles and allowed extreme perimeter contact during the guarding of Engin Atsur.

* Don’t misunderstand my previous comments, thus far this has been a fantastically officiated game.

* The difference in these two teams is simply – the bench.

* McCauley just does not perform/match-up well against the tall and athletic bigs of the Tarheels.

    Gotta keep fighting it, and whittle that lead down.

    Nice to see Todd Fuller getting some recognition.

    I hope to God Horner stays in for awhile. He has legs left, and is quicker than whoever Carolina has guarding him. Great, tough kid.

    Tyler can’t play with the mask. All he does is push people.

    These refs are by far the worst we’ve seen in the tournament. Even worse than the UVA game if that’s possible. Does anyone know if it’s the same crew? I can’t believe the amount of handchecking that’s permitted.

    Wow, Wright has a very nice short game. Hope he goes pro after this season… he should (nbadraft.net has him at #3 in their current mock draft).

    Ugh, that three is a killer. But Horner right back… he is playing well.

  13. Tau837 03/11/2007 at 1:44 PM #

    That is a bullshit call. Elbow in the mouth and foul on Costner.

  14. redfred2 03/11/2007 at 1:44 PM #

    Hands all over Atsur.

  15. Tau837 03/11/2007 at 1:45 PM #

    Horner!

  16. jg3000 03/11/2007 at 1:45 PM #

    I guess it’s only a foul when Hansbrough gets nailed in the face…

  17. 1.21 Jigawatts 03/11/2007 at 1:45 PM #

    No call on the push against Ben

  18. Tau837 03/11/2007 at 1:46 PM #

    Wow, Horner out…? He’s on fire.

  19. tvp 03/11/2007 at 1:46 PM #

    Somehow we are hanging around, even as UNC shoots lights out.

  20. Tau837 03/11/2007 at 1:47 PM #

    Good no call on Ginyard’s stupid play.

  21. 1.21 Jigawatts 03/11/2007 at 1:47 PM #

    No call on Travels elbow hooking.

  22. kool k 03/11/2007 at 1:47 PM #

    good foul

  23. Tau837 03/11/2007 at 1:47 PM #

    Glad to see Hansbrough take a hard foul for a change. If they’re going to call it, might as well get our money’s worth.

    I’d like to see Horner start over Gavin at the three next year. Either that or go big with Costner/Ben/JJ.

    Gavin’s turnovers have destroyed us in too many games, this one included.

    Seriously though, this officiating is horrible. As a player how can you get a feel for what they are going to call when the refs don’t even know from one play to the next.
