ACC Championship Game Entry (Halftime Update)

Sidney Lowe’s debut season as the Wolfpack has been a resounding success and has all of StateFansNation dreaming about the future. But, before we get to the future, let’s pray for a miracle today.

A lot of the media and younger Wolfpackers keep referring to the 1983 run to the title. I guess that is understandable, especially with the presence of Sidney Lowe. But, I liken this run more to the 1987 run than the 1983 run.

The 1987 Wolfpack team was lower seeded than the 1983 team. Additionally, the ’87 team had to play a Tarheel team in the ACC Finals that was much more of a juggernaut than today’s Tarheel opponent. If NC State could pull the upset in 1987, then nothing is impossible today.

The Wolfpack is playing with house money today. Nothing much left to say.

Go get em…

Haltime Comments

* 7 ties

* 10 lead changes

* State’s biggest lead was 6 points at 18-12

* The game was played at a very high level. Very impressive.

* The Heels started gaining traction at the exact time that the refs swallowed their whistles and allowed extreme perimeter contact during the guarding of Engin Atsur.

* Don’t misunderstand my previous comments, thus far this has been a fantastically officiated game.

* The difference in these two teams is simply – the bench.

* McCauley just does not perform/match-up well against the tall and athletic bigs of the Tarheels.

thanks to the guys for sticking this season out and giving us so much to be proud of and so much to look forward to. the holes better enjoy this one while they can, because nc state is no longer going to roll over for anyone!

Remember last game, Carolina up by 18 under a minute? Either Miller or that other butt-ugly short white guard launches a 3 ball. Running up the score when the game is over.

I repeat: Roy and UNC – tons of talent, absolutely no class.

  3. Rick 03/11/2007 at 2:39 PM #

Brandan Wright is the tournament MVP.

    Unfriggin beleivable

  4. Rick 03/11/2007 at 2:40 PM #

“why is lawson an asshole bjd? for dunking at the end? Thats not exactly uncommon.”

Who comes on a rival teams boards after their team wins? Only a jerk trying to tick others off.

  5. BJD95 03/11/2007 at 2:40 PM #

You can tell a huge difference in their class level since Roy took over. Apart from isolated dick moves from Wes Miller and Ty Lawson (and every team will make a couple of those), I can’t complain as much as I would like.

I am more proud of this bunch than words can express. But it just hurts so damned much. You never know when you will be in that position again.

  6. beowolf 03/11/2007 at 2:41 PM #

No doubt we got carolina’s absolute best shot. If we could have converted on those two possessions when they missed layups, the outcome very well could have been different. I can’t say enough about the Pack this weekend. It sucks that they aren’t walking off the court as champions. It sucks that they won’t get an NCAA invite, because no bubble team in this conference played well enough to deserve their tickets. And if Costner doesn’t get Case, that will suck, too.

Remember it, guys. Store it away, stay hungry. We’re proud of you. Season’s not over.

    Asral Rain,

    I’m with you man,

Miami, the first Virginia game, Bama, Cincy,

if the guys could have took at least two of those (especially the conference games) they might be dancing next week.

Great run. Now lets go win an NIT Championship and Coach Lowe and Towe can start hitting the real recruiting trails that bring NC State back to its real lime light.

Way to hang in their fella’s.

    Go Pack!

Heel – only b/c we had surrendered. We weren’t defending anymore. That means that non-assholes start shaking hands rather than going for an uncontested dunk.

Wright MVP? Was he even a MVP of the round (1st, quarter, or semi)? THe ACC is a joke.

why is that sad? its just a game. get over yourself Gumby. you’d do the sam thing.

“Why is this crowd so pro-UNC?”

I think it stems from the fact of where the tourney was held. My uneducated guess says that less of the hard core fans from all the schools came, thus opening up attendance to the Wal-Mart crowd. As we know, legions of Tarhole Wal-marters can be found in nearly every urban area.

  13. Rick 03/11/2007 at 2:43 PM #

And the fact you cannot recognise that makes me think you are one as well.

  14. #44 17 24 03/11/2007 at 2:43 PM #

and yes I meant to spell it that way.

  15. beowolf 03/11/2007 at 2:43 PM #

    Wright is MVP?

Somebody please clear the ACC home office of all the tarheel homers. There are 12 $#@%ing teams in this conference; it’s about time they get remembered.

    Unf&%$ingbelievable.

  16. Rick 03/11/2007 at 2:43 PM #

My post refers to the Heel.

  17. BJD95 03/11/2007 at 2:43 PM #

I would be SHOCKED if we win a single game in the NIT. We spent every last bit of mental and physical energy we had left today. And I bet Atsur’s season is done.

  18. gumbydammit 03/11/2007 at 2:44 PM #

BJD, don’t expect a Heel fan to understand – they live in their own little reality.

  19. #44 17 24 03/11/2007 at 2:44 PM #

see the reason why im not upset is because just like 97, no one is ganna remember UNC winning this, but they are going to remember us, and thats what makes this whole thing special.

  20. wayofthemaster 03/11/2007 at 2:45 PM #

    I’m sorry Rick,

I should have known better. My bad

  21. gumbydammit 03/11/2007 at 2:45 PM #

    speak for YOURSELF, 44.

  22. Mr O 03/11/2007 at 2:45 PM #

The media votes on it. Wright was the best player for the winning team.

  23. Rick 03/11/2007 at 2:45 PM #

“Somebody please clear the ACC home office of all the tarheel homers. There are 12 $#@%ing teams in this conference; it’s about time they get remembered.”

I am so sick of this. How can a player set the all time record for ACC Tournament scoring and not get the individual award?
I know how. Because the media has the nose so far up the tarheel rear they have lost all oxygen and cannot think straight.

  24. 1.21 Jigawatts 03/11/2007 at 2:46 PM #

Talk about an A game from both teams:

    State 55% (29-53) 3pt 43% (6-14) 84% (16-19)
    UNX 58% (30-52) 3pt 60% (6-10) 96% (23-24)

Take away Lawson’s classless end of game dunk and the difference in the game was free throws, UNX just got to the line more. That’s the difference in the game.

Not bad for a team who has almost no bench, played in their 4th game in as many days against tougher competition than UNX who played two weaker teams and a much deeper bench.

Hats off to both, UNX won the game but we made a STATEment, not just to UNX but the entire ACC. NC State is back and we’re coming for each of you.

Dueling posters, just calm the heck down.

And if you’re a visiting heel, tread lightly right now. You should at least have the common sense, if not the common decency, to understand why.
