ACC Championship Game Entry (Halftime Update)

Sidney Lowe’s debut season as the Wolfpack has been a resounding success and has all of StateFansNation dreaming about the future. But, before we get to the future, let’s pray for a miracle today.

A lot of the media and younger Wolfpackers keep referring to the 1983 run to the title. I guess that is understandable, especially with the presence of Sidney Lowe. But, I liken this run more to the 1987 run than the 1983 run.

The 1987 Wolfpack team was lower seeded than the 1983 team. Additionally, the ’87 team had to play a Tarheel team in the ACC Finals that was much more of a juggernaut than today’s Tarheel opponent. If NC State could pull the upset in 1987, then nothing is impossible today.

The Wolfpack is playing with house money today. Nothing much left to say.

Go get em…

Haltime Comments

* 7 ties

* 10 lead changes

* State’s biggest lead was 6 points at 18-12

* The game was played at a very high level. Very impressive.

* The Heels started gaining traction at the exact time that the refs swallowed their whistles and allowed extreme perimeter contact during the guarding of Engin Atsur.

* Don’t misunderstand my previous comments, thus far this has been a fantastically officiated game.

* The difference in these two teams is simply – the bench.

* McCauley just does not perform/match-up well against the tall and athletic bigs of the Tarheels.

Once again – the Heels given a chance to finish w/ class, take the low road…Lawson dunks and emphatically says “F**( yea!” after the dunk.

I wish Fells had caught him and fouled the hell out of him.

When people rip the officiating I tune them out immediately.

It’s O.K. to complain about the refs from time to time, but these game threads have people whining about the officiating every single game.

Do the rest of us a favor, learn something about hoops and then come back to the site.

State didn’t lose this game because of the refs.

They lost to a better team, it’s just that clear cut.

Let’s see if the fellas can win the NIT!

RAYCOM just picked Costner as its player of the game for us (duh) and said that his 90 points was an ACC record.

  4. PackMan97 03/11/2007 at 2:28 PM #

It’s a shame, with the ACC this year, 8-8 in the ACC with a flameout in the ACC tourney probably makes it…

5-11 with three wins over top 25 teams in the ACC tourney doesn’t. buggah!

  5. BJD95 03/11/2007 at 2:29 PM #

Anybody who doesn’t vote Costner for the Case Award should be summarily shot. No questions asked.

Congrats to Coach Lowe, his staff, and all the players for a terrefic game, tournement and season. I would like for it to have ended differently, but I’ll take it anyway. Very proud of what they accomplished.

Another banner to hang in the Dean Dome. They were the better team today, and they deserve it. I guess emotions got the better of Lawson, because that was one of the most classless, empty, self absorbed plays in an ACC championship it quite sometime. Roy Williams puts up with it because I guess so that he can attract more self centered, spoiled athlethes to come to his mini-NBA camp over in Chapel Hill.

I’m hoping that this game is remembered by the guys returning. Then stick it to UNX next year and every year after.

I’m very proud of Lowe and the players. One hell of a tourney, here is to winning the NIT.

Why I hate everything about UNC:

4 seconds left – UNC up by 7, the game is obviously over. UNC has the ball on the rebound – NC State quits defending, as the game (as previoulsy stated) is obviously over. Under normal basketball circumstances, the leading team, having possession and realizing that the opposing team has stopped defending, just runs out the clock. I have seen NC State and other teams do this time and time again…

NOT UNC. Lawson goes for the full court show-boat slam dunk.

F**K UNC. No class assholes. They are agreat team with tons of talent, but have a complete lack of class and no concept of respect. And I call complete bullshit on ANYONE who claims that Roy Williams is a “class act kinda guy”. If he is, how come he tolerates this shit time and time again? That’s why I hate UNC. University of No Class.

Has the tourney’ MVP award ever come from a non-winning team?

  10. #44 17 24 03/11/2007 at 2:31 PM #

I dont care if lawson dunked at the end. it may not be the right thing, but its what i wouldve done.

  11. Rick 03/11/2007 at 2:31 PM #

They will probably give it to Wright.
Some mumbo jumbo about points per minute.

As a Wolfpack fan of my generation, I’m numb to this. I’m too used to coming so fucking close, but never being able to seal the deal. That is absolutely not an indictment on this team. They were amazing and I couldn’t have asked for anything else out of them. I just dream of the day when we are good enough to actually win something. I think Sid will get us there, but it can’t get here soon enough.

UNC needed to be off today for the upset to happen. They weren’t off. No shame at all how things went down today. If only State could have had the Miami game back, and one other.

What a run! And what a first season for Sid! Is there now any doubt now about his fit as HC! AND IT ONLY GOES UP FROM HERE! I look forward to many more UNC-Duke-‘Pack basketball battles in the coming years.

I was very appreciative of Roy’s after-game comments about V, Sid and the Wolfpack team. He IS a class guy (even if he is a Hole!) As much as I dislike Carowhina, I’m glad there is someone on the other bench I can at least like except in games.

  16. BJD95 03/11/2007 at 2:33 PM #

It would have been nice if Lawson had pulled a Gramatica and blown out his knee out trying to show us up. Asshole. It would be fair had we still been defending, but once mask-boy got the rebound, we waved the white flag. THAT is what makes it a dick move.

  17. gumbydammit 03/11/2007 at 2:33 PM #

so 44 17 24, you say at a time when you would have to decide whether or not to do the right thing, you would NOT do the right thing? sad.

  18. chris92heel 03/11/2007 at 2:34 PM #

I’m stunned at State’s effort and half-court execution. Hats off to y’all. I thought that if we played well we’d win going away – but we didn’t. And don’t let anyone tell you that the heels didn’t play well.

Great game – sidney really has woke the echoes.

  19. BJD95 03/11/2007 at 2:34 PM #

I am 99% sure that a player from the losing team HAS won before. Not sure who.

  20. Rick 03/11/2007 at 2:35 PM #

It wil not happen here. I promise you that.
    They wil vote baby blue

  21. Wolf in Mavs Clothing 03/11/2007 at 2:36 PM #

I dunno, I try and not feel sour after a loss, but that last point just left a bad taste in my mouth.

The Wolfpack did an amazing job, all week long they truely have gave these games -all- they’ve got. As a fan what more can you really ask for?

  22. BJD95 03/11/2007 at 2:36 PM #

Absent Lawson, I thought Carolina acquitted themselves very well today. They showed alot of heart, too. And did their talking with their play. Congratulations to their coaches and players, other than Asshole Lawson.

  23. Mr O 03/11/2007 at 2:36 PM #

Why is Swofford in the pictures?

I don’t care. But it is odd.

  24. Rick 03/11/2007 at 2:37 PM #

    Agreed BJD.
Terry hit some huge plays for him. UNC fans seem to hate him too.
I guess maybe they will stop now.

  25. chris92heel 03/11/2007 at 2:37 PM #

why is lawson an asshole bjd? for dunking at the end? Thats not exactly uncommon.
