Official Embarrassment Thread

To a man, it appears that the NC State Wolfpack forgot there was a basketball game scheduled for today. Just a hideous effort all around. Yes, the game isn’t over yet, and maybe a miracle finish will make me look silly – but I seriously doubt it.

Officially, this is the first truly inexplicable, embarrassing loss of the Lowe era.

5:40 – This classic “too little, too late” run just pisses me off more. Why couldn’t we try for the first 32 minutes? And can we please let someone else guard Harris?

5:44 – Go ahead and foul out, Gavin.

5:46 – Nice moron play from Ben.

5:47 – By all means, let’s keep fouling their only 2 decent FT shooters. What a suckfest.

5:50 – How can this get worse? Fells gets injured.

5:55 – Ferguson finally hits the rim! Oh, and Miami wins 80-65. Just awful.

How do you differentiate lack of effort from fatigue?

That’s not meant to be rhetorical, I really don’t know. The minutes the starting 5 have been logging all year are incredible. That has got to catch up with us.

Rick – That’s a fair statement – especially on the offensive end – if you take away the TO’s.

There are times – like against Tech in the first half, against Michigan and Carolina – when we look unreal offensively.

I’m looking forward to next year. We’ll be addressing 2 of our biggest deficiencies – ballhandling and depth. In addition, we’re adding speed.

Nice to see Fells shoot well for several games in a row.

“But I don’t want to watch a team that has the balls and capability to beat a top-5 UNC squad…”

That is truly something that none of us are use to, that’s for sure there Wulfpack. It’s going to be a hard adjustment to having a coach who can now and then figure out ways to beat teams that are actually better than us. It’s just such a huge departure from what we’ve had to witness for so many, many years around here.

Not unlike what I’ve heard and read about the Miami game, I would have to say that we have witnessed our share of uninspired and poorly executed WOLFPACK basketball in the recent years following up until now though. It makes me wonder how short-term memory can fail some people so quickly?

We’ve beaten two teams recently that we never should have, we’ve lost to two teams where I say the odds were less than 50/50 anyway. I’ll take it just the way it is. When people who were aligned with the former coach start throwing out the words like “consistency,” it scares the hell out of me anyway. Consistently playing below our skill level and never rising above it, or what?

[…] Well, it’s time to redeem ourselves after basically crapping ourselves on the court against lowly Miami. It’s as simple as this – we need to win at least one more game as an underdog (assuming we beat Wake at home – we will be favored to do so), or the NIT won’t happen. […]
