Miami Suspends Hicks

Potentially good news for NC State’s Basketball team who will travel to Miami on Saturday for a big match up vs the Hurricanes – the Hurricanes have indefinitely suspended forward Raymond Hicks.

Miami, already down two starting forwards due to injury, suspended forward Raymond Hicks “indefinitely” for violating team policy. Hicks, a 6-7 junior, started the Canes’ last game and averaged 5.6 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

The Hurricanes (9-14, 2-7) will have just seven scholarship players on their roster for tonight’s game against the Eagles (16-6, 7-2) at BankUnited Center. Forwards Anthony King (wrist) and Jimmy Graham (thumb) are also out for the season.

State needs to add two more wins to the record to insure a winning regular season record in Coach Lowe’s first season and (probably) secure an NIT bid. Any dream of an NCAA berth took a severe hit last night when the Pack lost at Georgia Tech.

If Hansborough is on steroids, he needs to get his money back from his drug dealer. He’s not that big.

I would think Tyler is on acid rather than steroids. He has the blankest stare.

One exception is the pic in todays N&O where he has his mouth closed for once and looks just like Gomer Pyle. Gawwwwwly!

I am assuming that this would be the first game in a while that we are actually “favored” to win. I’ll be interested to see how we play in a “non-underdog” role. Being able to beat the teams you “should” beat is always a telling sign. I definitely we have alot to be positive about and alot to look forward to in the coming years.

NIT is nothing to sneeze at…wasn’t Memphis in it the year before last and they made a nice Final Four run last year

An NIT run could be lots of fun. We have the potential to go a lot further there. I’ll be very happy if we wind up there this year.

Making the NIT is all about expectations. If at the beginning of the season we had seriously expected to make the NCAA tournament, the NIT would be a disappointment. Considering most preseason projections didn’t even have us making the NIT, I’d say that would be a nice accomplishment. Barring a spectacular finish, I don’t see the NCAA tourney happening, but I wouldn’t look at the NIT as any kind of negative.

It would also be very nice to host a couple of NIT games at the RBC Center! As long as we are a higher seed, we’d have home court advantage, is that right?

^That would be great if it’s true. How hard would it be to get tickets? Do season ticket holders get first dibs?

Unless they’ve changed something very recently, the first 3 rounds are home games for somebody. They didn’t used to do seeding, they basically gave home games to the teams they thought would draw the most people and thus make them the most money. If that’s still the case, I can pretty much guarantee you that we would get 3 home games if we could keep winning. However, I haven’t kept up with the NIT recently, so they may have made some changes. Isn’t it run by the NCAA now, or something?

Rochester – are you at all associated with the U of Rochester? How do you like it up there?

^No ties to the University of Rochester. I wish they’d move up to Division I in hoops, though, so we could see some real college ball around here. The closest teams we have are overrated Syracuse and a couple of teams in Buffalo. Rochester’s a decent place to live. Kind of on the chilly side right now. We’ve got a good foot of snow covering the lawn, and I doubt I’ll see the grass again until March. I liked the winters down in NC a lot better, that’s for sure.

As for the NIT, I went to several of the games back in the early Herb years when that was as far as we ever made it. I missed out on the last regular season game in Reynolds, but there were a few NIT games that year, and I was there for those. PackGirl, I wouldn’t worry about getting tickets. If we have NIT games this year the tickets will be easy to come by. And last I knew they still tried to give the home games to whichever team they thought would draw best, so I agree with Wufpack, it would be a shock if we were in the NIT and had to travel.

Thanks woof, I realized after the fact we have 12 teams now, please consider my prior entry a good example of why not to Drink and Blog.

And Hansbrough is just an asshole. He does seem like he might be crumbling though, and hell, his own teammates call him psycho. Hope we get to watch him snap in the big dance when they are upset by this year’s George Mason.

As long as the NIT rules haven’t changed, we almost certainly would get a home game. The few teams with a comparable venue in terms of capacity and attendence, are liable to be in the Dance.

The NIT rules did change. It’s now seeded- with the higher seed getting a home game. 1-5 and 7-8 seeds get a home game.

Rochester – thanks for that. i might get a chance to go to school there.

  15. Rochester 02/09/2007 at 7:12 AM #

U of Rochester is supposed to be a pretty good school. It’s also one of the largest employers in the area.

Biggest downside up here besides the weather in January and February (and the taxes) is that even with the sports package on DirecTV a bunch of our games get blacked out. I know people down there were pissed when the games were on ESPNU, but I liked it because I got those ones up here.

I would love for them to play potential NIT games @ Reynolds

the nit can be a great reward for the hard work this group has put in—the opportunity to play extra games will only help the young players—similar to getting a low level bowl bid—the real plus there for the staff is the opportunity to get extra practices in to evaluate the young talent—thus—it would probably serve us well to bite the bullet and get some more minutes for the guys on the bench who have a realistic chance of being in our top eight next season—if we assume only one early exit—costner or grant—then we’re looking at one guy—maybe two—assuming two of the ‘new guys’ jump in the rotation right away—i say we get ferguson a big boy hair cut and see if he can nutup and play a little bit—go pack!

I remember seeing Georgia and Missouri State under Alford at Reynolds- work kept me from seeing a lot of games though.
