Markus Kuhn receives football scholarship of the North Carolina State University. Starting from January 2007 the Campus of the NCSU becomes the new homeland for the young Linebacker Weinheim Longhorns. Nobody thought a such career to at that time nevertheless rather schmächtigen boy capable of as it in the autumn 2001, persuaded of a friend, for the first time with a youth training Weinheim Longhorns emerged. Under Coach C. Tzellos undertook it in this time the first steps in the German football – very successful, because in its first season it already knew to impress 2002 in the youth GFL as Rookie on the width unit position in such a manner that it became to appoint into the youth selection of Baden-Wuerttemberg. 2003 it followed its Coach and changed, like a majority of the Weinheimer youth crew, to Heidelberg. In the jersey Heidelbergs Bulls it accumulated also for the first time as Linebacker. Speed, aggressiveness and the fast apprehension distinguished it on this position, thus were not amazing it that Markus Kuhn became to appoint also 2003 again into the youth selection of Baden-Wuerttemberg. With the youth land tournament of the AFVD in Berlin it was distinguished as MVP (most valuable player) the Linebacker position, was it involved as a main participant of the Defense nevertheless substantially in the tournament victory of the BaWü selection. At the end of of 2003 it decided to return itself due to the perspective lacking to Heidelberg to Weinheim. 2004 were the year of the heights and depths, under its new Headcoach, Marvin Washington, made the talentierte youth player also play-technically large progress. The lining up youth EM in Moscow threw its shade ahead, beside Danny Washington, Daniel McCray also to Markus Kuhn to the Try Out of the German youth national team to Darmstadt was invited. However an harsh disappointment followed the giant joy, when nevertheless the some Linebacker superior in Physis could not convince the present youth national coaches and despite above average achievement was not nominated. In the quarterly final play the crew Weinheim Longhorns with final conditions 35:12 for Berlin eagle from the Play Offs separated around the German youth championship. Nearly already mandatorily nominating took place into the national cadre and although the selection crew reached „only “place 2, it was for Markus Kuhn a successful participation with the honor „the MVP Defense “ended. In its last youth season 2005 it convinced on several position. Apart from its master position as Linebacker it knew also on the QB to convince Runningback and Receiver position what always offered and made several options with difficulty calculable to the play system of the young Longhorns. In the semi-final one had to give oneself against Franconias Knights with 15:06 struck. The season was not terminated however yet. Markus Kuhn changed 2 into the Herrenmannschaft of the Longhorns and created it at first attempt into one of the desired starter positions. League team. The year 2005 closed the Ausnahmeathlet with the land comparison fight 2005 in Berlin earned as „a team MVP “, thus most valuable player of the whole team, off. The high point of its career in the American football the meanwhile 20-year old is however probably not experienced in Germany. After the season 2006 Carolina State University begins a completely new era with the study to the North. Were not surely only the school achievements, those the Headcoach Chuck Amato in addition moved the 1.94 m large and 120 kg of heavy to offer sympathetic German one of the hot desired football scholarships. Chuck Amato works since 1969 as a Coach in the college sport, 14 years of it as defensive LINE Coach the Florida State Seminoles, one period that it probably more for such decisions makes than only competent. In addition, the correct decision met the young Bergsträssler. When it deflected the invitation of the NFLE in the spring for the sighting training of the teams after Tampa/Florida, it was not yet conscious itself of the consequence of its at that time surely heavy resolution. A participation in this Camp would have entailed the loss of the amateur status after NCAA regulation, which would have made a football scholarship impossible. As Freshman in division a 1-A football program, in the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) with colleges and universities such as Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech etc. measures was up to then no more than one dream. A dream for Markus of the Kuhn now becomes true. Left to the message

jah wohl una line backer. Many Sieg Heils to Herr Amato!

Vahs es lohs? Nicht on Scout.com??

Judging from the release date (9/28/06), and the discussion of Amato’s coaching history in the last few paragraphs I’d say this was his recruit. The article describes him as a fast, athletic linebacker, w/ somthing that presumably is related to football IQ (my words, not theirs). It reads he was a defensive MVP in 2005 on first glance.

Looks like a good recruit, if TOB honors that offer (and the player opts to come w/ the coaching change). I’ll see if I can dust off my German/English dictionary and translate the bulk of it (I follow the gist, but my forte lies is in technical chemistry when it comes to German).

  4. noah 01/30/2007 at 8:51 AM #

He put together a highlight DVD and was shopping it around. Amato saw it and liked it. O’Brien apparently did too.

He’s supposed to be really quick for his size. I think he’s about 6-4, 260, so he’ll probably play DE for us.

  5. BoKnowsNCS71 01/30/2007 at 9:06 AM #

Just curious. Since he is not mentioned on Rivals.com or Scouts.com – Are they new to the European market or is this just an oversight?

  6. choppack1 01/30/2007 at 9:39 AM #

There’s not yet a lot of recruiting info on European American football players.

  7. noah 01/30/2007 at 9:42 AM #

I don’t think Rivals or Scouts even worries about the Canadian football market, and there’s always a couple of dozen decent players that come out of there.

  8. BoKnowsNCS71 01/30/2007 at 9:58 AM #

Probably why that great kicker at Wake Forest flew under the radar.

  9. Mr O 01/30/2007 at 10:08 AM #

Amazing how much our recruiting changed with Amato this past year. We went from going after top guys and not taking early verbals to taking early verbals from sleeper/less heralded type of recruits.

Fortunately, the previous staff seemed to do a good job with talent evaluations over the years, so hopefully that remains to be true with this class.

  10. GAWolf 01/30/2007 at 10:34 AM #

^^ To further look at the difference:

A 4 star recruit that plays like a 2 star = A no star recruit that plays like a 2 star.

    Further…

A 4 star recruit that plays like a 2 star and makes stupid mistakes repeatedly and embarrasses our university with on and off the field antics

  11. legacyman 01/30/2007 at 10:48 AM #

A 4 star playing like a 2 star is playing below expectations. Likewise, a no star playing at a 2 star level is playing above expectations. Considering desire as important, I will go with the overachiever.

  12. BoKnowsNCS71 01/30/2007 at 10:50 AM #

Only 7 more days till signing day folks. Hope that we get some “good” surprises and no bad ones.

  13. GAWolf 01/30/2007 at 10:59 AM #

For some reason I lost part of that last post…. it was supposed to read that that 4 star playing as a 2 star making repeatedly stupid mistakes is less than a no star playing as a 2 star.

I can think of more recruits that didn’t live up to expectations under the last regime than those that overachieved.

Assuming TOB wins at a rate similar to the success he had at BC…. recruiting will go nowhere but up. I think evidence exists to suggest that recruiting the last few years has been on the decline.

  14. noah 01/30/2007 at 11:31 AM #

    I’m going off memory here.

Recruits that I’d say overachieved (based on their star rankings…which I despise):

    Manny Lawson
    John McCargo
    Philip Rivers
    Marcus Hudson
    Oliver Hoyte
    Stephen Tulloch
    Sean Burton
    TJ Williams

Those were all two and three star players who were not among the top 50 at their position coming out of high school. All of them played at least one year in the NFL, except for TJ Williams and I’d say he had a very nice college career.

    Recruits that were disappointments:
Tramain Hall (I’m probably alone on this one)
    AJ Davis
    Derek Morris
    Marcus Stone
    Bobby Washington
    Octavius Darby
That big tall skinny TE from Tampa who never played and ended up moving to WR only to never play

These were all four or five star players. None of them were ever all-conference players. AJ Davis might get drafted and if he does, he’ll be the only one to do so. Tramain Hall had a couple of nice moments, but he was undersized and relatively slow. He was an average slot receiver for us who had a couple of decent moments. Far, far less than what he was advertised as coming out of high school and JUCO.

I’m just hoping for a ‘hold it together’ 25-man class to complement some of the skill position talent that currently exists in the program. Hopefully we can then elevate the quality of our in the future from what the last two have produced.

  16. class of 74 01/30/2007 at 11:35 AM #

^the only evidence I need is the record, that says it all.

Just as a note, Markus Kuhn is on Rivals.com listed under NC State with video links no less – see below for that. He has some impressive stats, mainly his speed for a big man, which could very well net him a DE or ML position this coming season. He’ll probably need to drop a few pounds to play ML, unless he can prove his straight line 4.8 forty can translate into the east/west mobility needed to cover the gaps/pass coverage in the secondary in ACC play.

    Listed at:
    Ht: 6-foot-4
    Wt: 275 lbs
    Forty: 4.8 secs

PS – I’m ecstatic to finally have a registration attempt work successfully here at StateFans. I’ve been trying to register without success since the football coaching search – glad to finally be able to share my thoughts.

Those are both new adds. They were absent this AM.

  20. Mr O 01/30/2007 at 4:26 PM #

Noah: Totally agree on T. Hall. He had a great sophmore or junior year, but then didn’t do a whole lot after Philip left. Philip leaving also killed Brian Clark’s production.

Maybe you would have to put Clark in the overachieving category as well since he made the Broncos this year. TJ Williams did make the NFL, but ripped his knee last year.

  21. GAWolf 01/30/2007 at 5:16 PM #

    Noah:

Is it not safe to add “any QB prospect recruited and signed since River’s arrival barring any future improvement on the part of the same?”

What about Richard Washington? In fact, we’ve had way more busts at WR than we’ve had guys who played up to their promoted potential when they signed with us. Mind you I’m aware that QB issue mentioned above directly impacts the ability of the receiver to produce.

We’ve got some guys that will be Seniors next year who unless they show me something next year, I would easily put them on the list of guys who haven’t lived up to their hype. I will not mention the specific names of current players, but I think many of our guys have plenty of room to improve their play.

In that regard, maybe that’s exactly why I’m getting more and more excited about next year. (That’s tempered excitement as to not set myself up for disappointement mind you.) We’ll have growing pains for sure considering the coaching change, but I can’t wait to see what TOB can get out of some of the athletes Amato was able to lure to Raleigh. I’m really counting on seeing some guys “bust out” of whatever funk it is they’ve been hiding under for the last two seasons. We can only wait and see….

  22. noah 01/30/2007 at 5:17 PM #

Brian Clark goes in the category with guys like Garland Heath and Miguel Scott and Sterling Hicks…”Did exactly what we thought they’d do.”

And then there are guys like Yomi Ojo and a few of Cary Godettes recruits that we can put in the category “Didn’t Do Exactly What We Thought They Wouldn’t Do.”

  23. GAWolf 01/30/2007 at 5:24 PM #

I’m just sort of glad that our hopes will not have to rise and fall with guys out of Dade County come signing day anymore….

  24. Frank 01/30/2007 at 6:12 PM #

Looking at the list of committed players for NCSU there is something very odd. There appear to be NO players from FLORIDA.

  25. Mr O 01/30/2007 at 6:24 PM #

You expected Brian Clark to make the NFL? He did show that talent as a freshman, but didn’t envision it prior to watching him play.

What do you think of this year’s class so far?
