    Looking back at just how great is was at NC State and is today – he really appears to have covered up a lot (coaching wise) for Amato. Amato did a great job selling the program, but Rivers made it happen on the field. The guy is amazing. I am happy to have him as one of our own (along with all of the other great talent in the league right now).

    Interesting stat last night that Rivers has had 7 winning seasons in a row. 2 in H.S., 4 at NC State, and this year with San Diego. He’s definitely a winner!

    I remember watching Rivers his senior year thinking that at times the game was almost too easy for him.

    I’ll never forget the way our offense moved the ball vs. TT, UNC, UVa, and Kansas that year – it was truly something to behold.

    Like I’ve told all my friends since the 1st time the Chargers beat Denver, this team will dominate the AFC in the playoffs (after their 1st round bye) to play in the Super Bowl.
    The only remaining question for me is, who from the NFC will it be? (Saints, Cowboys? Don’t waste space by typing the Bears.)

    i was hoping he would go to the Steelers when he was drafted. but i am glad now he is on the chargers. I was also hoping he would meet big ben in the playoffs this year to show him who was boss. Ben Rothlisburger (sp?) never really impressed me much last year, but he does have a ring on his finger. Wont be long for Rivers though. Ben is over rated and Eli, well i wonder how the G men feel about their draft day trade for Eli now? didnt the chargers get merriman and 1 more 1st round pick out of that too? It will be interesting to see how history rates that draft class. Chargers definitely got the best player. So far Ben has worked out better, but that again was only because of the Steelers team at the time. i could throw 7 passes a game behind that steelers line last years and the bus. Same could be said this year for the Chargers i guess with LT, but Rivers is the man and will win a ring before he is done with the game and comes back to Raleigh to coach the PACK!!!

    The Chargers are obviously doing (more than) fine with their current roster…but, I would love to see them add a stud WR to their aresenal for PR. They don’t have a real dominant threat at WR. That piece of the puzzle could make the almost unbeatable.

    a Brees vs Rivers SB would be awesome!!! and as far as things are looking, VERY possible!

    I have all respect for Brees, and am a HUGE fan… but I got to pull for Phillip on that one!!

    The best offseason move was by far the Brees to NO and moving PR up in SD. Worked out great for both teams. Sean Peyton (sp?) is looking like the best coach in the NFL right now.

    Rivers will make every Giants fan cry within the next 2 years. They got Eli when they thought they wanted him, but Rivers would have had them in the promised land this year for sure.

    If he had just one “great” receiver this year the QB/RB/WR trifecta would be in place and they could pretty much sew it up. Gates does wonders as a TE, but you still have to have at least one killer WR. Keenan has had a fantastic career, but this year is one of his lowest producing ones yet.

    PR is making everyone is SD forget about Brees. Hell, half of them wanted to forget about him anyway before his breakout “oh shit Phillip is here” season.

    I saw the stats at halftime of yesterdays game, and I think Philip had a perfect passer rating for the first half (158.2). I know passer rating is a strange stat, but I recall that number as the highest possible.
    Looking on the brightside, he learned while at State how thin the line between champions and being labeled a “fraud” is. He has learned those lessons and isn’t satisfied with a great start to the regular season, he knows how quickly it can turn into 4th place. This guy is a pure leader, and the combo of him and LaDanian is amazing. I don’t think any other team has two such selfless and talented players.

    Calvin Johnson is predicted to go early so he won’t be around. ND and Ohio St has 1st round-worthy WRs too. Its pretty early for this, but here is the latest mock draftM.

    No doubt about it, no other team in the NFL has a combo like PR and LT on the field… not to mention that no team in the NFL has a combo of character players at those positions. These guys are both selfless team players. Chargers will win the super bowl.

    Phillip’s recent slump was not apparent yesterday. He was 15-23, for 279 yds, 2 TDs and 0 Ints. His final QB rating was 136.0. LT rushed for 103 yds and three TDs.

    I really like the team chemistry, Phillip is in charge and he has the team’s respect and attention, but it’s more than that. They all do their jobs and respect each other. The whole offense went to celebrate when LT broke the record. After the game when they interviewed LT in was all about WE and very little about me. The Chargers have a great QB, but Phiilip is in a great situation also.

    They’re probably going to have to go the free agency route to get a receiver. They are not likely to get a superstar picking last in the draft. But if PR and Gates keep hooking up like they yesterday, they look pretty good as they are.

    What are Rivers chances of making the pro bowl? They put 3 QBs on the AFC team. Palmer and Manning have been very productive, but Rivers has arguably had a better year than Brady and if SD finishes 14-2 I would think Rivers would be named.

    JUSTAGUY^ yeah but you never know, those things are such popularity contests. just like the Heisman. Brady Quinn? give me a break, he did NOTHING to impress me all year. And ND should have had 2 losses except for the Mich St self implosion earlier. ANd now ND gets a BCS bowl game bid and they never even played a top 25 team did they? Point is ND gets its ego stroked by every jerkoff with a mike, and then when its time to hand out bowl bids, or invites to NYC for heisman they/Brady get one, despite being imho, very undeserving. When NC State players come up for things like this, we get shafted….. sorry for the seemingly unrelated rant. it just irks me, Rivers is definitely a Pro Bowler, but he will prob take it in the a$$ for Brady to go even though PR has had a better year.

    PS^^ related to my above rant, did anyone read Reilly’s article in this weeks SI???? about the commentator chortle? It was a good read, and a funny article. The thing he missed on though was commentators like Stu Scotts, inane babble trying to resemble some form of eboniks (sp?) to impress poeple with how “hip” he is.
    THAT REALLY GRINDS MY GEARS TOO!

    woof woof, you must’ve caught sportscenter this morning. You regurgitated almost word-for-word what Berman (ywml) said about LT’s ‘we’ perspective.

    justaguy, if you look at all AFC QBs, the big names are Manning, Palmer, Brady, McNair, Vince Young, and Rivers. I consider Manning and Palmer shoe-ins, so Rivers’ biggest competition is Vince Young. An unbiased opinion would say VY has absolutely been a leader and is a media goldenboy. BUT, they won’t be in the playoffs and the Chargers will be (with a 1st round bye very likely).

    04, Reilly is on point every week. I think SI’s come out on Monday; are you referring to last week’s (where Reilly not-so-subtly calls for Irvin’s job?) It was a great read. If you mean this week’s, I haven’t seen it yet. For some reason I don’t get mine until about 2 days after everyone else.

    If you wanna see a funny thread on the Giants message boards comparing the Manning/Rivers trade debacle…read this below…funny how the Raleigh “native” tried to trash PR, until someone showed up with real collegiate stats to drown his argument. You could have heard a pin drop.
