Swofford Loves His Heels

It is no surprise…but we thought that we would share this little nugget from a recent ACC Area Sports Journal.

“I don’t think anybody is going to dominate this league anymore. (But) those teams that are off their standards this year aren’t going to go away and hide. I think our teams are fine for the long run. … It’s been tough to see (the Tar Heels) as down as they are. North Carolina has a national reputation as an athletics program. The ACC is stronger when (UNC) is good.”

* ACC Commissioner, John Swofford

    All of the ACC Commissioners have had connections with ACC schools. Jim Weaver, (1954-1970) was the AD at Wake Forest, Bob James (1971-1987) played football at Maryland, and Gene Corrigan (1987 to 1997) played Lacrosse at Duke and coached and was AD at UVA for ten years.

    Swofferd is a Tarheel. I don’t have a problem with that. I think the ACC is in better shape now than when he took over. He serves at the pleasure of the majority of the schools. What has he done, other than his CH connection that gets some of you so riled up?

    I agree with ‘chopack1,’ if I was commissioner, I would still be a diehard WolfPack fan, but I could still do a good job for the whole conference. But then again, I live 350 miles away and don’t have to go to work with those assholes everyday.

    ^”I also found it interesting that even Fowler knew better than to give Swofford a heads up before we’d reached an agreement w/ TOB.”

    This is off topic, but I hear SOME people saying Fowler has no power to fire anyone when everyone already knows it is exactly what needs to happen. That leaves Mr Fowler powerless and removes of all his responsibility for taking any actions and also makes any negative commentary on his job performance null and void. I’m told it’s the BOT and the chancellor who do all of major decision making in matters of firing, not the AD. Next thing I hear, Fowler is the catbird’s seat and in absolute control of command central, pulling every string and to be congratulated for every aspect of a coaching hire.

    So, Fowler is powerless when things are bad, and the supreme commander in charge pulling every string when the first thing good happens. All I know is, it’s either one, or the other, but it ain’t both.

    I’m not allowed to run the train, I can’t even ring the bell, but let the damn thing jump the track and see who chatches hell.”

    The error in my little rhyme is that LF rings the bell too much.
