I can’t remember who it was for Houston in ‘83 that predicted the team with the most dunks would win but he was correct: NC State 2 v. Houston 1.

^^ It was Guy Lewis, the coach for Houston who said that.

I’d like to see some McCauley dunk vs. UVa (i think). He had to go get the ball about 4′ away from the rim and still throws it down 2 handed, that kid has some strength.

That Cam Bennerman posterizing of Shelden Williams was used in the “Food Lion partners of the ACC” ad last year.

^beowolf, it’s hard to add anything worthwhile to your humor, and too bad that you can’t hear people laughing. But please, keep em comin.

DT came over to my apartment when he was a freshman with a freind of mine who played baseball for State the afternoon before the Red & White game. I had never even heard of him at that time since I’d just come back to State after a stint in the Army. They were joking about the “quarter and the top of the backboard” and I didn’t believe them. Believe me, after watching him that night and for 3 more years, he made a believer out of me! I’m sorta glad the dunk wasn’t legal then either. Those “Alley Oop” passes from Towe to DT were something to watch!

In 1970, I went to the Final Four when they played at Cole Field House. UCLA was playing Jacksonville with Artis Gilmore. The first trip down the floor, Gilmore blocked a shot. Then next time down, UCLA cleared out and Curtis Rowe slammed one over Gilmore! Disallowed, of course, but it brought everyone in the stands to their feet!

highstick, back then I was about a five eight white guy with average driveway playing skills, but believe it or not, I have played basketball with Artis Gilmore, George Adams, and even twice, with DT himself. All were just friendly pick up games. The Gilmore/Adams game was actually outside, on a driveway court. I guess that should give some people an idea of where I grew up.

BTW, even now, I’m still a white guy.

Red, but are you still 5’8″?????

Another funny story…, my wife’s brother played on the Broughton HS team with Pete Maravich. Pete was playing in San Francisco and my brother in law went to the game early hoping he could speak to him. He was close to the court during warm-ups yelling trying to get Pete’s attention. Pete ignored him until my brother in law wasn’t paying attention, then Pete flipped the ball behind his back and hit my bro-in-law in the head, then finally acknowledged him laughing!

“Red, but are you still 5′8″?????”

Heck no. After that, I had an amazing growth spurt of about 3 inches or so, in just the short time span of the last thirty some odd years.

One of my neighborhood friend’s father tried to talk us into riding several hours to see Pistol play his last year at Broughton, but we had never even heard of him. He went on by himself and we stayed home playing BB on a muddy dirt court in the backyard. DUMB KIDS we were!!!
