I don’t really have anything profound to add, but I’ll throw some stuff out for discussion, and you can share your thoughts in the comments.
First off, it seems like a good time to play Georgia Tech, coming off an emotional win against Miami and with a virtual 2 game lead in the ACC standings, thanks to tiebreaker advantages over all 3 of VT, UVA, and Miami. History tells us that it is pretty much written in stone that GT must lose 4 or 5 games every regular season. They still must travel to Athens, so I’d pencil that in as loss #3 – but the options for #4 are limited to at UNC (unlikely), home against Duke (really unlikely), or…at NC State Saturday night. If any team was ever primed for a letdown game, it is Georgia Tech.
Of course, that begs the question as to whether the Wolfpack can take advantage of yet another opportunity. As you know, our track record on cashing in is not good. However, we sadly seem to always play better after being eliminated from divisional contention. And if our players want to go to any bowl, a win on Saturday is almost essential. That said, I could just as easily see us completely crap our pants on Saturday night, in which case the typically drunk and surly “C-F night game” crowd will start to grumble (and Chuck better not be on the Jumbotron if that happens).
Speaking again of those wacky ACC standings, take a note of the ACC’s Atlantic Division, and note the Biblical nature of it: “The last shall be first (Wake), and the first shall be last (FSU).” Gold star to the first poster to cite the correct chapter and verse without using Bible.com (yes, there is such a thing).
