Another weekend sprinkled with some pretty good ACC games. The UNC vs. Virginia game will allow one team to stake its claim for the 2nd worst team in the ACC overall. It looks like the bottom three are all going to be in the Coastal division this year. Next up will be the Pack versus Maryland, in a game that NC State must win to keep its title hopes alive. BC at FSU is yet another key game in what looks like a wide-open Atlantic race. Finally, though technically not a conference game, VPI plays USM in a game that could tell a lot about the Hokies this year.
Nationally, the big one is UT at Nebraska. Both these teams seem to think they’re great, and unfortunately, it looks like they’re both wrong. Texas is very good, but it isn’t the same without Young. Nebraska looks like a pretty good football team, but they flunked their only test of the year – against USC, and the Cornhuskers wins over Kansas, Iowa State, and Kansas State weren’t exactly dominating. A win by Nebraska likely takes the Big 12 out of the national title race earlier than ever. For the past several years, the Big 12 has been an ideal route to the national title game with big name schools like Nebraska, Colorado, Texas A&M, and to a lesser extent Texas Tech and Kansas St. offering up mediocre performances against strong Texas and OU teams.
