    “21. Wake Forest”

are you kidding me? they are good but not that good. I wish they had that ranking this time last week so we would have beat them this past weekend.

  2. burnbarn 10/17/2006 at 8:06 PM #

a 6-1 wake team should be ranked.

  3. steve 10/17/2006 at 8:07 PM #

I dunno, once you get past about #15 or so, it’s really hard to distinguish who’s better. All the polls have 25 slots, so you have to put *someone* there. WFU has lost only one game and seems to me to fit in with the teams that surround it in this poll.

It’s ridiculous that Cal DROPS a spot after beating the frigging crap out of their opponent after doing the same to #11 the week before. Completely unfair.

As for Wake, being ranked is historically a kiss of death for them, so get ready for your next loss, Deacs.

  6. Wulfpack 10/17/2006 at 9:07 PM #

Never thought I’d see the day when the Deacs are ranked ahead of FSU. It’s still weird. Funny thing is, they really are better! It all looks about right. I do think both Florida and Auburn would wax USC if it came down to it. This Clemson/GT game is going to be very interesting.

brilliant. undefeated WVU at #8. What does this team need to do to make people realize that they take a back seat to no one. They’re a helluva football team and no 1 loss team should be ranked ahead of them. I see 4.

  8. cfpack03 10/18/2006 at 9:29 AM #

wow, people really take this SFN poll seriously….
imo, Wake at #21 seems right. I’d even bump them over Rutgers.

  9. BJD95 10/18/2006 at 9:39 AM #

West Virginia has beaten NOBODY. Every one loss SEC team has clearly proven more, IMHO.

Sagarin has them ranked #13, 2 slots after Boise State. Why? Because Boise Freaking State has played a harder schedule than WVU.

  10. WP 01 10/18/2006 at 10:23 AM #

I thought WVU proved something last year by crushing the SEC Champion, Georgia, down in the Sugar Bowl played in ATL. Pretty much everyone returning.

  11. primacyone 10/18/2006 at 10:28 AM #

Wake Forest should be ranked higher than BC IMO. Wake is a damn good football team. BC is prone to mistakes. Wake is diciplined. BC may be faster and technically more talented, but Wake is a better team right now. Not to mention Rutgers. Wake is better than Rutgers.

Glad to see my sleeper (Wisconsin) from the preaseason thread – (http://www.statefansnation.com/index.php/archives/2006/08/08/looking-for-a-sleeper/) – moving up the charts. They will keep climbing.

“and no 1 loss team should be ranked ahead of them.”

Okay so we have West Virginia at 4; Louisville at 5; Rutgers at 6 and Boise State is 7th. Everyone okay with that.

“Okay so we have West Virginia at 4; Louisville at 5; Rutgers at 6 and Boise State is 7th. Everyone okay with that.”

where did I mention those teams? can you show me?

  14. Woof Wolf 10/18/2006 at 12:27 PM #

I was just using your logic that an undefeated team is better than a team with one loss.

The Sugar bowl romp of Georgia was a much better argument. If WVU runs the table and USC loses, WVU will be in the champioship game. And under the current system they will have earned it.

They still have to play at Louisville and at Pitt. It would make Pitt’s decade if they couls knock their neighbors out of a shot at the national championship.

  15. BJD95 10/18/2006 at 1:08 PM #

Their win over UGA last year is a large part of why they are ranked 8 instead of in Rutgers/Boise State territory. You certainly can’t extrapolate that to say that WVU would likely go undefeated in SEC play. Which is the standard you are holding the SEC teams to.

  16. Woof Wolf 10/18/2006 at 1:28 PM #

I think 8th is about right and I don’t think they will run the table. But if they are 12 – 0 and USC has a loss, they are going to the championship game.

    The system sucks.

  17. Woof Wolf 10/18/2006 at 1:33 PM #

I meant to say, “they are probably going.”

  18. WP 01 10/18/2006 at 1:33 PM #

Woof Woof, You weren’t using my logic b/c I never said anything about undefeated teams being ranked higher than 1 loss teams…that wasn’t my argument! Everything I was saying was in reference to WVU.

I do not think WVU would go undefeated in the SEC, though I think they’re at least as good if not better than any team in the SEC. I personally don’t think any team can go undefeated in the SEC (proven). Which drives home Tubberville’s point of a playoff system being that 1 loss will usually eliminate an SEC team from title consideration. But at the same time, I also do not think an undefeated WVU team should be thrown under the bus in favor of a 1 loss SEC team. WVU’s onfield performance dating back to last year (which IMO is a valid time frame b/c they returned most of their team) proves they are worthy of a ranking ranging from the 2-4 area. I too think the true barometer of success will be the Louisville game, the Backyard Brawl against rival Pitt, and the suddenly very inticing match-up against a excellent coached Rutgers team.
