Wake Forest Game Thread

Yes, the Pack is down 22-14 at the half. But I really don’t feel we are in serious jeopardy. Our offense has found its rhythm, and except for that last broken play, so has the defense. Prediction: 31-25, State.

Also, can somebody please replace these bozo announcers? Yes, Newby recovering Andre Brown’s fumble for the safety (instead of a Wake TD) seemed like a huge break at the time, as 2 < 7. However, when Wake took the ensuing free kick and turned it into seven more, it ceased to be a break. Last time I checked, 9 > 7. Yet both announcers repeatedly stated how much worse it could have been, in the leadup to the 3rd quarter. Idiots.

WF kicker won the game today for them

If you said in the offseason we’d be 3-3 at this point, most of us would’ve been happy…thrilled even

Great game. Tough loss. Only bitch I have is I thought the fumble got kicked twenty yards. I don’t think that’s legal.

Can’t complain about the effort. Funny plays and tough bounces. The kid can’t throw last minute TD’s every week. He is a sophomore afterall.
Swank was unreal and they played as hard as we did. Good game, bad outcome.
Let’s keep our heads up and focus on the twerps next week.

I saw the UNC score on TV and it made me smile. Actually, if you said “3-3 at this point of the offseason,” I would have pegged us at 0-3 in ACC play. So I would NOT have been thrilled.

We are in OK shape, though. Win 2 of the next 3 games, and the Clemson game still likely for Atlantic title.

Indiana and Vandy did win today. Freaky.

It’s going to be a lot more fun living in Georgia this week. I bet none of “the DAWGS” asks me, “How did you lose to Wake Forest?” And the tarhole who lives two doors down has been talking basketball for a month.

Now if MSU can figure a way to upset OSU even my son-in-law will be quiet.

Wake’s a good team, we got unlucky- but they deserved to win it too. Inability to get TOs on D is hurting bad though.

Here’s the issue- Wake in Jacksonville, now they have the tiebraker over us.
We still need three more wins, with four games we should win. Hopefully go at least 4-2 down the stretch. Also, they kept mentioning that the offense is young- so next year I feel very optimistic about at least on O, D I don’t know yet.

Our talent at the skill positions is on par with the Texas, Ohio State, Floridas, and Auburns of the world and our QB is more than adequate. Unfortunately, our glaring problem, offensive line, prevents us from dominating teams like Wake Forest, Akron, and Southern Miss the way the aforementioned teams dominate the Baylors, Cincinnatis, and Tulsas of the world.

Our young defense is playing as well as we could hope and essentially shut Wake down in the 2nd half.

We COULD be a dominating team, but will never see it until the offensive line catches up to our skill at other positions.

    “Great game. Tough loss. ”

    exactly…..

I know its a little early to pick the game apart… but I dont really understand the time outs called in the game… I was there, and had new endzone seats(which was awesome by they way… not the best view… but I enjoyed it completly), and never really saw what was going on.

oh yeah, and I whent into the gates by the Vaughn Towers for the first time… our stadium is a lot nicer then even I thought… I had a buddy of mine from ECU with me, and we was completly impressed.

The Pack stands tall in victory, and is magnanimous in defeat. Evans still had a great game, and who woulda thought that Wake’s win was gonna come down to a kicker?!?! Not me, and I’m a long suffering fan, capable of grasping any straw. One thing that really stood out to me today was the general good behavior of both team players. You’d see Wolfpack players helping up Deacs, and vice versa. I don’t know if anyone else was watching the VTech/ Boston game on Thursday, but today’s game was the antithesis of VT’s general demeanor and behavior. This Pack team is still acting like winners. As fans, we need to continue to treat them as such. Go Pack!

I hate to rain on y’all’s parade, but from where I was sitting I saw a number of times where our players showed their asses. Amato, at least twice, had to go out and drag a player off the field. I saw our guys repeatedly lay on guys much too long, and even push guys well after the whistle. I think we dodged a handful of personal fouls by luck alone. Perhaps as a whole the game was well played by both teams, but I saw several things that made me cringe throughout the entire game.

Clearly the better team won. Guys like Kirk Herbstreit know us pretty well when they say we are up one week against good competition and down the next against lesser knowns.

Yes, they were playing a contact sport and there were close calls on both teams. I missed Chuck running out on the field to drag players off.

Good point 74, I think. We upset 2 top 25 teams and Kirk Herbstreit picked us to upset Wake in, was it an up-week or was this a down week? Must have been a down week since we beat FSU. No, we must have beaten FSU during our “down” week. It could explain how we lost to Akron, a team we were suppose to beat. It was a down week after beating ASU. Since we actually “won” the Akron game except for a gift TD, that must explain the SM loss.

  18. vanuel 10/16/2006 at 6:56 PM #

I won’t say that we should have beaten Wake. They did what they had to do. We didn’t. However, we simply have to be able to beat teams like Wake if we are to get beyond where we are. I will support my team no matter what, but this was a big loss for us. Of course, beating FSU and BC made this a huge game in the first place, but we just never seem to be able to get over the hump.
