    ^but an EXCITING one!!!!

I do not think we could have been left in a worse situation if someone had done it on purpose.

Bo, Hate to disagree, but this year is not going to be any longer than those of the recent past.

This is going to be watching kids starting possibly slowly at first, feeling their way through for a while, then seeing them develop as the season passes. Like packpigskinfan23 says, EXCITING!!! I do not at all see this season as being the drudgery that many are bracing for. It is simply the first step back, it all just depends if you have the patience to watch the games with that perspective in mind.

I agree that thsi actually is a good thing. No doubt taht we will take some lumps but then again we might just sneak up on some folks down the stretch.
The biggest thing I dread is listening to the “Herb lovers” tell us what a mistake we made because we could have won 18 games and lost in the 1st round of the NC2A’s.

  5. SixPack 10/23/2006 at 9:52 AM #

Brackman and Simmons were “gone” anyway (with or without
Sendek’s exit) ! There is only a slim chance that either 2006 incoming recruit that de-comitted would have been immediate help in the lineup.
    Thus………..

If Sendek was still here, we would probably have been rated somewhere
near the botton anyway ! Sounds like Sendek got out while the gettin’ was good and his recruiting failures have been exposed after the fact !

El Cid and Company have no pressure and NCSU will be the equivalent of “DUKE in football” this year…ie “who will be the first ACC team to fall to the “worst b-ball team” in the conference ? This could be fun to watch !

    GO PACK !!!

“The biggest thing I dread is listening to the “Herb loversâ€? tell us what a mistake we made because we could have won 18 games and lost in the 1st round of the NC2A’s.”

THis would have been an UGLY year with the sandy one. It would have been Herb ball extreme and the natives would have been restless. I think he knew what was coming and thus why he booked out of here.

  7. redfred2 10/23/2006 at 9:59 AM #

GoldenChain- That is inevitable, no doubt. And as SixPack has stated, this “dreaded by many of the same” and upcoming season, has been in the making for a lot longer than Sidney Lowe has even been around.

Herb is a smart guy. No question there. Herb knew he had to go; otherwise with what he had coming back, LF would show him the door. Herb knew we had very little coming back, and frankly, made a good move for him.

On the bright side, the guys will play hard for Sid and I expect with some of the fire of old #35. He got by on desire, character, not on talent. He will teach that to our guys. In this morning’s News and Disturber, Atsur is quoted as saying how excited the players are and “we are actually running some set plays”.

If we finish last, it is not an indication of Lowe’s abilities, it is an indication that the cupboard is bare. We have 7 scholarship players. With 7 scholarship players, we deserve to be picked last. Anything above that is a testament to Sid’s coaching.

  9. choppack1 10/23/2006 at 10:32 AM #

I actually see no reason – barring injury – why we can’t finish in the “upper half” of the conference. I think we’ll surprise folks w/ our talent and athleticism at the 2, 3, and 4 spots. Sidney’s going to have to make sure that our kids are in great shape, and that they remain “fresh” because they’re going to have to play tons of minutes.

  10. packpigskinfan23 10/23/2006 at 10:42 AM #

The ONLY player in the starting 5 that I have doubts about is Ben McCauley… and I am not saying that he wont completly change my mind. the rest I feel can carry this team to more than a couple “suprise upsets”

  11. redfred2 10/23/2006 at 10:56 AM #

It’s just like everything else, unless you are a fan of the particular program you can’t really see what’s there. It is the same with rankings, appraisals of coaches, and the like. It’s all based mainly on a large glob of statistical data. I am of the mindset that some people are going to be truly surprised by what we put out on the basketball court this year, and also the gains accomplished by every player on the roster before the season’s end.

  12. partialqualifier 10/23/2006 at 11:02 AM #

We are not only the worst team in the ACC, but we are by a long ways. This will be one of the worst teams to play a basketball game in the ACC in the last 25 years. Seriously. Just look at the scholarship players available. Not too many, and the ones we do have either have no experience or weren’t ranked anywhere near the Top 100 in high school. I think most of us have a handle on that. To those of you holding out hope…please take a moment to compare our roster with every other roster in the league. Herb’s first team was better than this one; simply because he had 5 guys who could handle the ball and knock down the 3. We will be bad. 4-12 would be a good year. Anything better and Sidney should get Coack of the Year!

With that said…I am not the least bit bothered. I look at this season as a chance to get some much needed experience for some players who may can help us down the road. It is a chance for Coach Lowe to “get his feet wet” as a college coach without a whole helluva lot of pressure. It is a chance to show some of the recruits on the bubble how we intend to play in the future. So my suggestion to all of you is to sit back, relax, and root like hell for the Pack. But most of all just realize that the best is yet to come.

  13. packpigskinfan23 10/23/2006 at 11:10 AM #

partial- I cant wait for the Pack to prove you WRONG!!!!

of course I dont EXPECT it… but I know they can do it.

State will def. not be last in the ACC. Maybe 10th but not last. These preseason rankings arent ever right anyway.

  15. redfred2 10/23/2006 at 11:31 AM #

“the ones we do have either have no experience”

    Why is that???

partial, I seriously don’t care if we win one game all season. The games will not embarrass me as much as some of the ridiculous losses we’ve suffered with a very competitive roster. The players that you mentioned will be different, they will improve as not seen in recent years, and they will all feel different about wearing a Wolfpack uniform from the start and especially by the end of the season. That will carry over into the future. When they get the right supporting cast we will become legitimate, in a sense of the word that most of you folks are unfamiliar with, once again.

Sendek is scum and should of been fired years ago. How you let a coach set back so many young men’s lives is beyond me.

I’m happy with the bar being set low because it removes any pressure that Lowe could of experienced. I think the ACC sports writers wanted to make their feelings known that State should of kept the previous nightmare alive longer and shown him more respect and look what the State fans have done to the program.

  17. partialqualifier 10/23/2006 at 4:20 PM #

    redfred….

I agree. I am proud of Sidney Lowe. I loved Jimmy V..and all that went with him leading the fight song at Wolfpack Club meetings…and cracking jokes about Dean Smith walking on water, etc. We have missed that. That was our identity and it was squashed by Todd Turner, Les, & Herb. All of whom told us for years that we should never expect anything and we were all wrong for liking Coach V. I mean in a way the backlash for those who supported V was kinda like the Disco backlash and people burning BeeGees records. LOL!

I am so hopefull that we are beyond that, and that now we can embrace all the things that made NC State basketball great.

el sid takes his lumps in year 1—yet—finds a way to play the heels and dookies tough at the rbc—the energy will be back—the wins will follow

  19. redfred2 10/23/2006 at 7:49 PM #

    partialqualifier

I’ve kinda said this before, but what did V teach at NCSU? Basketball, I think it was? How many of the young men who went through the ranks during Jim Valvano’s tenure are, or where, successful in that sport or something closely related to it after their college days were over?

Compare those percentages to other coaches, and then tell me why any of us should have ever felt guilt for a second about a man who absolutely excelled at his job and made a major difference in the lives of the young men he was responsible for. It is beyond me.

BC’s got no starters back? They have Dudley, Marshall, Oates, Williams, and Tyrese Rice. I’ll take that starting five over anyone’s but the ‘Holes.

This just the media getting its potshots in to pile on for the Sendek issue. We can beat everyone on that list up to Georgia Tech, big man or not. I agree with all you guys saying this is actually perfect for Sid. If he finishes last which I find unlikely, ehh. But when he pulls some shockers, especailly at home, where we as fans are likely to be a serious factor, he’ll get critical accliam. Dookie V already loves him due to his personality and charitible nature, and he can be salesman for us now too. Can anyone else hear the ‘wait til next year’s “Diaper Dandies” get here talk’ during our games this season?

  21. redfred2 10/23/2006 at 11:40 PM #

“he can be salesman for us now too”

    WHEN???

Maybe one of those among the brain dead in the sports information department can find it in their heart to drag two folding chairs together for him to stand on at some time in the next 12 months. Heaven forbid, wouldn’t want to stress those hard working SID folks or ask them to make a big deal over anything as insignificant as a total program rebuild.
