Statefansnation has learned that UNC Chapel Hill has arranged to rent the North Carolina Central University Eagles football team for Saturday’s road game against the University of Miami, sources close to the program told SFN today.
“Dick Baddour was inspired when he saw that Florida State rented Central’s band for their game against NC State,” the source, known only as “Big Ram,” stated. “Hell, that was the highlight of the night for the Seminoles. He thought: why not us?”
Why not, indeed. In contrast with the pathetically awful and reeling Tar Heel football program, NC Central, the reigning 2005 CIAA champions, have a gaudy 5-0 record with wins over Albany State, Shaw, Lenoir-Rhyne, Southern, and Bowie State – never failing to put up more than 20 points of offense in each case.
“It was a no-brainer,” said “Big Ram” today. “Those guys are good. So is their band. We stink. But we have lots of money, as our alumni have been bleeding this state like a milch cow for 200 years. So what the hell – let’s put some cash on the table and a quality product on the field for a change.”
ACC Commissioner John Swofford called the move “irregular” but stated that he “admired the resourceful thinking, the outside the box strategizing, that is unique to that great university from which I graduated. If State tried to pull this, we’d get an injunction. Go Heels!”
The SFN source was unclear as to what role UNC Coach John Bunting would play under this “new” UNC team. “He’ll be on the sidelines, I’m sure,” “Big Ram” said. “But beyond that, the consensus is that the less he has to say, the less chance there is to screw something up.”
