Good news in the basketball recruiting was delivered to NC State today when point guard, Jeff Teague, announced his plans to play basketball at Wake Forest.
Q: How does Wake Forest’s commitment of a Top 75 basketball player translate to “good” news for NC State?
A: Because key NC State target, Chris Wright, was also considering Skip Prosser’s Demon Deacons.
Additionally, Chris Wright is scheduled to visit NC State this weekend for the Wolfpack’s season football opener against App State on Saturday night.
In a move that is reminiscent of Da Plane! Da Plane!, our friends on the Pack Pride Message Boards seem to believe that Wright is on US Airways Flight # 3839 from Washington scheduled to arrive at RDU at gate A22 around 6:30pm this evening. Hilarious.
We will definitely keep our eyes peeled for CW in Raleigh this weekend.
Relatedly, this story from CBS discussing the merits of leveraging your football program as a recruiting draw for basketball comes at a perfect time! It’s not really about ‘football’ as much as it is about having a full, well-rounded, and complete college experience. (You can rest assured that Georgetown won’t be hosting Chris Wright for a football game).
Check out the story, ‘Manic Saturdays often lead to madness in March’. Love it.
“To be able to experience Tennessee football and all of its greatness and pageantry and 108,000 fans and the Pride of the Southland Marching Band and the football team coming out through the ‘T’ and the unbelievable tailgates …” Pearl said, and he could’ve gone on forever. “The whole thing is just electric, and I think it’s a huge advantage for us in recruiting.”
(Kids) like to see 100,000 fans cheering something, then imagine themselves on the receiving end of those cheers next year. In other words, add basketball recruiting visits during football weekends to the list of advantages all-sports BCS schools have over non-BCS schools.
