Manny Diaz Comments on Chuck Amato

Couple quick comments from the Dennis Burton written article at The Technician.

On how much credit or blame a coach deserves for the success or failure of a program:

“I think a coach deserves a ton of credit if he builds a program. You look at N.C. State six years ago when we came there. Outside of Raleigh and maybe the ACC, nobody knew about N.C. State. It’s all about relevance to me. Six years ago N.C. State was not relevant nationally. But now, the program is nationally known. We used to have to explain to recruits where N.C. State was, and now they know. Now N.C. State’s on the map. But no one wins every game, and you can’t expect to. The number one thing about what Amato has done there is that N.C. State football is now relevant.”

On the fan base’s unhappiness and criticism of the football program under Amato:

“I don’t think the fan base as a whole is unhappy. The part of the fan base that’s unhappy is just a small minority. It’s a squeaky wheel type of thing. It’s a small voice that’s reacting to what they read in The News and Observer or on other media outlets about the coaching situation.”

I had this typed out last night but yanked it at the last second….

To sum up a viewpoint from above, I think what Mr Wolfpack4ever is trying to tell all of is…

Hunky dory…peachy keen…right on track…always has been…always will be…what more do you want?…could not ask more…or better…and don’t be so stupid as to think you can…you bunch of morons.

    Gotcha there Mr Wolfpack4ever.

It does sound kinda familiar though? Hey, while I’m thinking about it, you wouldn’t happen to be a graduate of the Carnie Mellon Institute of Higher Learning would you there Mr Wolfpack4ever? Maybe not.

It’s very noticeable in the people I know from there, but if you did not attend school there, you still have that irritating and familiar ‘Holier than Thou’ attitude down pat.

This thread is now all yours Mr Wolfpack4ever, have at it.

class of 74, 🙂 I don’t consider referring to Fowler as Foulup is criticism, I think it is name-calling. Saying “Phillip Rivers carried his italian butt…” is not criticism, it is simply insulting Chuck being Italian.

Saying “when you said “X”, you must mean “Y”” is seeing the world through your own eyes.

I have seen very little accurate “criticism” of Fowler, a lot of generalizations and criticism of his not doing what he cannot do, i.e., firing HS or Chuck Amato.

Example: Criticism of his not going for two after the winning TD Saturday was criticism until it turned into name-calling by defining it as “stupid.”

Lastly, I see a whole lot more people willing to stand up for what they believe as possitive now and some of the venom has turned in my direction away from the coaches and AD. That is a good thing IMNSHO.

^You truly need to brush up on your reading comprehension skills if you don’t think there has been any accurate criticism of Fowler, Amato or Sendek on this blog over the past couple of years.

And don’t try to flatter yourself with delusions that your rants divert poster’s attention to what really matters here, the direction of our athletic programs!

class of 74 Says: Amato is a great defensive coach based on history here and at FSU. It’s the other side of the ball where he is woefully weak, again based on history here in Raleigh.

With regard to defense if you are correct, the record doesn’t bear this out his first four years here. You and I could coach good defense with Williams, Lawson, McCargo, Tulloch, Hudson, and company. His staff did an excellent job of recruiting those guys and the current crop of players.

Likewise with regard to offense, the record doesn’t bear this out his first four years here, either.

So it is likely that neither is the case, his history here doesn’t say one way or the other if he is a good defensive coach or woefully weak on the other side of the ball. More than a HC’s ablility on eith side of the ball, is his ability to locate and hire good assistants. Norm Chow and Reggie Herring left their mark offensively and defensively.

It really is about winning and losing. If we had beaten UNC every year and won the conference championship and been in the BCS bowls, Chuck’s ability to coach would not be an issue.

    No kidding?
