Finally! Color for the BBall Court!

And, after the 10th year, he proclaimed… “Let there be FUN…and personality…and some color within your basketball program!”

And there WAS fun…and personality…and some color within the basketball program!

It has been talked about a bunch since Sidney Lowe’s return to Raleigh, but now we can actually see it happening. Check out the following picture taken from the RBC’s webcam that indicates that NC State will finally do away the drab, boring, uncolored lanes and baselines that so fittingly accompanied the (lack of) personality and style of the Herb Sendek era.

New Floor

It is going to look awesome!

While we are on the topic of transitional improvements to the basketball prorgam, we’d love to hear your thoughts on what other opportunities exist for Coach Lowe and NC State to re-vamp some of the things that we do. For example, the following are some suggestions that we would like to see considered over in West Raleigh:

(1) Players names on the backs of the jerseys.

(2) Revamp of the uniforms that may simply have the word “State” on the front of the jersey? Perhaps these uniforms are “special” and used only on rare occassions?

(3) Re-address the student ticket distribution policies to create more “committed” student-fans on the sidelines and generate more “personality” from them. (Key Link)

(4) Install a Reynolds-Coliseum-like noise meter in the RBC.

(5) Better use of the scoreboard for “Pack Past” features of historic games and personalities in Wolfpack history.

^These are just some starters. We’d love to hear your thoughts on them and your own suggestions.

I didn’t have much of a sense of humor when the shoe was on the shoe was other foot and ” ” was in firmly entrenched there for alot longer than I personally prefered. But I didn’t have any other options for a decade. There is an option for you, though unproven, there is hope.

I think ” ” does owe many NCSU fans something, don’t think you’ll ever hear it though.

Lighten up and laugh about it, it is history, we’re headed in a new direction now.

Hey, I can understand frustration over having what you see as a setback stuck in the coaching position. Totally understand that. What gets me with what goes on here is how now we’re beyond that…but others still attack him, seeming to forget where we were BEFORE he came here. I HATE HATE HATE having no NCAA tourney games to look forward to, much less NIT games…and there were a few years where that was just the way things were. Nightmare.

Eh…honestly, the way he was treated, I don’t blame him if he doesn’t give those few of us who stood up for him any thanks. I don’t hold it against him, personally. Doubt he knows we exist, heh.

Trust me, I’m ready to move beyond all that though. Like you’ve pointed out, times HAVE changed, let’s move on with them. I’d be perfectly happy if the last coach’s name were never mentioned here again, positive or negative if that’s what it takes…but that’s too much to hope.

Lowe, we’re counting on you man. Let’s do this, again.

^Here here. I’m with you all the way, Lock. As much as I disagreed with many Wolfpack faithful over the last guy, it won’t let my love for NC State wither away. We’re all Wolfpack fans, and hopefully we can all cheer happily together and be on the same page soon. Looking forward to the future.

” “‘s name will float around here forever. I posted a, without names, comment about it on an earlier thread last night.

Hell, thinking back, I wouldn’t shut up about it while he was here, still haven’t really. So have at it, you’re entitled.

“As much as I (AGREED) with many Wolfpack faithful over the last guy, it (DIDN’T) let my love for NC State wither away.”

Wulf, how do you do it? You rise up out of nowhere on these post about ” “.

My Wolfpack life is looking nothing but rosy now days.

Wulf, I just had to throw that one dart at you. All in fun.

Try to overlook the origin, but check out the link below. I posted another babbling and wordy response under the name “N/A.” Maybe that will give you a better idea of where I am really coming from on the topic.

PLEASE don’t hijack the thread. Lock, I hope you read SFN’s “Closing the Book on Sendek” entry. I think/hope you would find it a fair accounting.

Back to the RBC. The noise meter, I think like an original really hokey retro looking kind of way, could be come become a symbol of the program.
Either way, something to that effect needs to be.

OMG!!! I sent in the question to Inside Wolfpack Sports a couple of weeks ago about since Sid was coming back, would he bring back the classic jerseys……then he went on to say they were going to make the RBC Center floor look like the floor at Reynolds…. Someone is finally bringing back TRADITION to STATE!!!!!!!

Wanna start selling Cokes in 8 ounce glass bottles again like in the 50’s at Reynolds? I sold a bunch at half-time but I ddin’t sell squat during the game — some jerk like myself always yelling for me to get out of the way. Thinking back to those days is spreading a warm glow through out the old body and it would take 2 undertakers all day to get this smile off my face. 😉

Sammy Ranzino, Dick Dickey, Vic Bubas, Ronnie Shavilek OMG what a time. I vote for Coach Case. Name the floor the Everett Case Memorial Floor! When recruits ask about it, take ’em to that special room Jimmy V built in the Case Athletic Center to show recruits highlight film (if it’s still there.) I’d love to see NCSU honor the coaching glegends such as Coach Case and Coach Edwards who were the very heart of the emergence of basketball and football here. Maybe Sam Esposito could get a mention for his baseball contributions. Although my memory is not what it could be, AD Roy Clogston deserves a mention for bringing these gentlemen to NC State. (Well maybe Espo wasn’t as much of a gentleman as the others. I mean how could he have been such a good friend of JV and be a gentleman at the same time?.) 😉

I’ve got a great story illustrating Coach Case’s being a genuine gentle and kind man which I won’t tell since it ain’t exactly on the thread.

BTW the class shown in the posts as I read down through them, nearling had me misted up. I love NCSU sports and NCSU people. I am committed to the healing of the StateFanNation. This thread indicates to me that we are willing to let go the past and look out of the front of our faces to a bright future.

From Ole Reynolds: “Rip ’em up! Tear ’em up! Give ’em hell, State!!!”

    nycfan,

The purplish seats was an unfortunate mistake. AIUI the seat colors are actually red, white and black (not sure about the white, could be grey) and looked real good up close and in good light. Unfortunately, the colors morphed into a purplish hue, not pleasing to NCSU or the Hurricanes.

    to another poster,

The Canes made the deal feasible and are good partners in the sharing of the RBC. And I loved what they brought to our house — the first pro champianship in NC. BrindiA’mour wore a Wolfpack hat to the Cup awards, for god’s sake. Let’s don’t make enemies of our friends.

Lastly to the guy who wants to bring back the rubber “championship court,” I can only think of bringing back genuine plastic cups in lieu of crystal. Loved that old hardwood. Never heard anybody say, “let’s go hit the rubber for some hoops.” 😉

Those small eight/six??? ounce Cokes in a bottle, nothing better.

I’m with you all the way on bringing the great names from the past back into focus. But I’m ready to start riding roughshod all over the college sports world for a while. On the basketball court, football field, in all areas, but especially in recruiting. Spanking opponents and sending them scurrying back home to lick their wounds and contemplate their little run in with the Wolfpack for awhile. No one is worried about hurting or coming to aid of any Wolfpack interest. It’s time to TAKE back what’s been frivolously given away and what has missing around here for too long.

Dominating Wolfpack Pride that’s built on playing your hearts out and taking no prisoners!

I think the “special jerseys” idea is tremendous. I suggest Sid use that concept (I was thinking Red jerseys at home for in-state games) for a couple of reasons. One to generate some new traditions, while not deviating too far from our past or seeming to imitate one of our rivals(like the black jerseys did IMO). And two, to emphasize the importance of those games to NC State fans. They may say we are not their rivals, but we should let them know they ARE ours. Hopefully the players will understand the gesture and play accordingly, as they rarely have in rivalry games recently. If you like the glass half empty, you can always blame the jersey idea for the terrible whoopins our neighbors might lay on us this year as well.

I don’t care if the players names are on the back or not, but I did like the tiny letters they used for the names back in the day. I can’t imagine there is any effect on any players game due to the knowledge his last name is on the back of his jersey. Or that anyone in our pack of rabid fans would fail to recognize our guys in street clothes, much less when they are wearing their gamekit.

I loved the old “State” jerseys, but maybe we can reach a compromise in this brand-centric era. Instead of the word “STATE” replace it with a “Block S” a’la the Miami “U” on their jerseys? Naaaah! It’s gotta be State, cuz we’re the only State in red, and the only State that matters anyway.

Oh, the noise meter is a good idea, too.

Bring back Jesse Jones night (50 cent hot dogs)!

  16. scoots 09/08/2006 at 11:41 PM #

I agree with tcthdi…one of the great things about Reynolds was how loud the pep band sounded playing the fight songs..the place really rocked. But, sadly, in the RBC Center, it sounds rather faint compared to the blaring from the sound system. Badly need to put some microphones in front of the pep band or something. And, yeah, a noise meter would be great too.

  17. MB3 09/09/2006 at 12:37 AM #

I like the floor and it’s new look. The names on the jersey don’t concern me that much but I like the traditional “State” uniforms. Don’t forget about having “Pack” on the leg of the shorts. A sound meter would be great. That would help bring some of Reynolds over to the RBC Center.

One thing I want to change is the yelling of “RED” and “WOLFPACK” during the national anthem. I bring customers, colleagues, and co-workers with me to the some of the games and that’s the first comment they make. I want the RBC Center to be a nightmare for opponents but this shouldn’t happen during the anthem.

  18. Texpack 09/09/2006 at 7:59 AM #

As a HOZE Squad member, the thought of civility toward the opposing team offends me. Anything short of violence and physical threats is fair game. The crowd should start picking on a player again. You wouldn’t believe how effective that was at times.

  19. Mike 09/09/2006 at 11:46 AM #

Bring back the bottles, they are easy to throw and we might have a chance of actually hitting our targets. OK, bad idea. But no doubt the 6.5 ounce bottles of Coke are the best tasting cokes ever.

Bring back the unitards, they were a classic. OK, bad idea #2.

Reality is Reynolds was one of the best places in college bb for a game. $$$$ closed Reynolds because of the 12,400 seats, 10,000 were in the end zones and corners. We Pack fans wanted more seats so we could scream and holler, and while the RBC is not as good as Reynolds, more of us get the see the games in person AND have more places to buy stuff. How many times did you go to a game in Reynolds, go to get a snack at the half, and be back in your seat with 10 minutes gone?

Finally, the one thing I would love to see come back is the noise for the “designated opponent”. Remember when the Technician would print an opposing players picture, and when he touched the ball, the entire crowd would make noise? THAT was unnerving and a great tradition we started. Others copied, but that is a red and white from NC State tradition. Let’s bring that back (and the names on jerseys too).

Bad news about the bottles. The drinks were poured into cups.

Let me tell you about the fans in those days. I cut my hand on a broken bottle getting my drinks out of the ice getting ready for halftime one game. I sat there watching as the fans poured their own and others drinks and collected the money for me. Oh to be 14 again in old Reynolds.

  21. 4NCSU 09/11/2006 at 7:51 PM #

Our court, the last seven years, reflected our coach, who was boring. I think HS had to be one of the most boring coaches in the history of the ACC. The court looks a lot better than it did. I hope Sid turns things upside down. Anything faint remnant of the last coaching regime needs to be completely wiped out.

  22. redfred2 09/11/2006 at 11:38 PM #

    Any faint remnant? Let’s see there’s wul….., lo…, and da., and…

    Lighten up guys. J/K
